another thing that 1st crab was not to small rock crab only have to be 4 & 1\2 inches. plus traps like yours should be pulled every 5 min crab are quick
hi how are you i crab alot as well in nanaimo but at the dock. If u like crabbing from shore if u put that trap on a fishing rod and cast it far out and its easier and quicker to bring in
you need to check the regulations for that area with DFO, every day the closures notices change. Sanitary closures affect crabbing/shell fish and red tide closures affect shell fish. All crab need to be measured before they go into the bucket, i did not see any measuring device in that video. It is a shame that this small provincial memorial park is now being inundated with people crabbing when the original use for the park was for wildlife viewing according to the wishes of the family who dedicated the park to the province in memory of family.
That first crab was a keeper, you can keep redrock crabs much smaller than Dungeness, I think redrock crabs you cab keep at 115mm and Dungeness at 165mm
@@john-jacobmacisaac1171 yes i could see that, but regulations are that you measure the crab before it goes in the bucket, 2nd crab looked small to me. Regulations are getting completely ignored down there because people know the DFO do not prioritize that park.
I worry about the misuse of this park. Last summer, I saw many groups of Chinese people everyday. It’s never been so crowded like that before. They were doing BBQ and a lady was dropping crab shells from her mouth onto the ground from eating. I found garbages left behind as well. That’s so sad. It was never like this before. 😭I live here so I know.
Nice video... good job and happy crabbing ;)
