I've watched Burton since he was a freshman at Georgia. I'm a Bama fan so I watched even more after he transferred... Dude got better every season. He works for sure.
Steve is so on point. You have enough information today to solidify your confirmation bias rather than challenge what you actually SEE. I played defense. Speed didn’t scare me. A precise route runner didn’t always scare me either, because I can read the QB and can watch film to predict your routes. Speed mixed with aggression(anger) and wiggle scared me. And if you were thick or could jump… that worried me too.
Also, some guys are satisfied with a catch, or a first down. But some receivers are upset every time they don’t score or embarrass someone. They look different. They feel different. I’d rather ask DBs who I should pick in the draft. Or just Steve who is a WR savant.
i am honored to be a subscriber and a always " liker ". Steve is my greatest "go to" for all things WR. What a grace of a man. " Do you love football ?" " Which wall we runnin thru coach !!!" Coley you are the absolute coolest dude my man. You know way more than all of us,and are a perfect , absolute perfect addition to Steve. Just keepin it real dogs🙂
I use data analytics every day. Both in my professional life and in analyzing football statistics as a hobby. Guys like Steve provide additional data points that my models don't capture and that I'm not knowledgeable enough to see. Subject matter expert observations can be used in conjunction with data even if the SME doesn't use hard-core data themselves.
Jermaine burton is that guy he’s another sleeper in this class. To me he’s really crafty with his route running and after the catch, Great hands , good releases can make plays in traffic. It’s crazy this wr class is so deep that guys like this will likely fall some
@@nicktomei7642 you can say that about literally everyone in the draft , but notice i just said described him as ‘crafty’ never said he had elite routes
Burton has a good built for a receiver,he's a good route runner he has speed he knows how to find opening in zone, he's a sleeper for sure Steve Smith is not a scout he's just someone with any opinion.he looks like a faster Micheal Wilson fr the cardinals.
This wr class is so deep. I got him as a steal in the 3rd round of my dynasty league. 1.6 Rome Odunze 2.2 Keon Coleman 3.3 Jermaine Burton Hell of a wr rebuild. With only having Marquise and Zay.

Stats shouldn't be a role in comps...They are all situational. If you have a crappy QB, or O line, your stats will suffer. I compare Burton more to Hines Ward orTerry McLaurin. Tough, Smart, Quick, great separator, great hands, Smooth. He plays angry like Steve did which I love.
@@thecarter8700 They kept Mixon in check. They'll be fine. Especially with TJ Houshmanzadeh as his close mentor. He can also learn from Ja'Marr and Tee.
The 40 time on the track is IRRELEVANT. Their speed when wearing 30 lbs of football gear and their ability to accelerate is far more relevant. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 40 but in pads, in a REAL game, he would leave people in the dust.
Dude Mr. T had more than the A-Team! In 1985 he co stared in a movie called Rocky 3!! Where do you think that line ‘I pity the fool’ came from lol. He played Clubber Lang the movies antagonist. Great movie.
The most important aspects of football, at any position, are qualitative. Stats are heavily influenced by scheme, surrounding talent, and opponents. Measurables only tell you about physical potential. Predictive analytics based on quantitative properties assume that the qualitative properties like football IQ, motivation, toughness, work ethic, etc. are fairly equal.
Great breakdown again, Steve! Really appreciate it. As someone who has never put on pads and only "scouts" college players casually, I'm curious about the extent to which some of these bad or otherwise undesirable habits you've pointed out in the prospects you've evaluated are fixable. Obviously you can't teach intangibles, like pure size and speed, but if a guy has enough work ethic, are all of these areas of improvement (like body catching, running sloppy routes, and having trouble tracking the deep ball) ones that you would consider to be teachable with enough reps? If so, which techniques, in your experience, are the easiest and hardest to teach? Is it always player-to-player, or do lots of young receivers tend to have difficulty improving in similar areas? Furthermore, are there some non-physical aspects of the game that you've either got, or you don't, no matter how much you practice?
He ain't going to need to do nothing but stretch the feild and clear the middle we have Tee And Chase to catch underneath and they know what to do after the catch
Coley is an idiot to not guess that they comped Baldwin to Burton due to frame. When a ton of your catches are down the field and near the sideline you're not gonna get YAC
I know you don't like pro comparisons, Steve, and if you see this comment, I'd love to see your opinion on this. When I watched Burton's tape, the abilities stuck out to me, but I also saw the rawness and "dawg" mentality, making contested tough catches, maybe not getting a lot of yac, but tough ran yac, and all that while being on the shorter end of receivers, I thought he reminded me a lot of you. Before your refinement, of course. Always been a huge fan of yours growing up in carolina, love the breakdown, keep up the good videos!
Steve moth was way faster than him js and stronger top body frame he would stiff arm cbs to get yac this guy isn’t that as much as I understand your comparison.
I agree with Steve but I think he got caught up in YAC and forgot one other key trait, Burton has HANDS. Zero drops? Very fluid and comfortable catches.
