The one thing that all reviewers always miss out is the fact that the Magic Mouse can be used with BetterTouchTool, which gives it all the same gestures as a trackpad. For many web developers if they were to have something like a Logitech mouse they would also have to use a trackpad with it. The beauty of having trackpad technology on a mouse is that there are an unlimited amount of options, where as a Logitech mouse with physical buttons and slow horizontal-scroll very is limited.

    • @damnfreakingsien
      @damnfreakingsien 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

The curved trackpad on the magic mouse is the reason why the magic mouse is still relevant even in 2022! Most reviewers mentioned the obvious flaws, but there are many upsides to the magic mouse that aren't mentioned.

@@paldepind I know, I currently use the MX Master 3 as my main mouse, but the gestures are limited to the number of buttons. I love the MX Master and MX Anywhere, but the Magic Mouse is the next best mouse on the market for office use. I know web developers who have both mice but favour the Magic Mouse.

    • @damnfreakingsien

@@paldepind so does my Razer with programmable buttons. But then, these gesture buttons have quite a learning curve which requires a fair amount of trial and error to figure the best macros.
Magic Mouse is better in a sense the gestures are very intuitive to learn yet very productive although there’s lack of customisation.

The most outstanding point of the magic mouse is definitely the capability of using touch gestures. You. completely missed out that point. For someone who uses this feature daily, it is extremely practical and handy. Second, i just cant understand, why everyone is complaining about the charging port being at the bottom side of the mouse. The battery life of the Magic Mouse is (in my experience) amazing, lasting at least 3 to maybe even 4 months, and even if its empty, you charge it 5 mins to get many many hours of usage. and 3rd (not so important), for me, someone who has for example AirPods and an old iPad, the lightning port really isn't the problem (of course, this depends). Finally i want to say that im not just an Apple Fanboy. I completely agree with the ergonomics being horrific, making working over several hours hard...

I have zero issues with the magic mouse. Great battery life, with the gestures it almost functions as a mouse + trackpad into one and honestly, I'm fed up with the discussion of the charging port. Yes it's on the bottom, no that's not a problem. I've been using it for the past six years professionally and have yet come to a point where it has an empty battery and I need to charge it during hours I need to do stuff. It's not as convenient as to put your mouse on a docking station and charge it every night, overnight. I just plug it in during lunch breaks, shower breaks, .. whatever kind of break and it charges quite quickly. Oh, and if they put the port on the front, it would've been a huge design compromise, making it a lot more ugly / less uniform.

I think the charging port is on the bottom because Apple doesn’t want anyone to use the mouse while charging, aka using a wireless mouse with a cable attached to it.

One huge issue I have with the new magic mouse is that I can not
turn off the swiping feature. Try using a magic mouse while
using the street view in Google Maps. A bloody nightmare.
The magic mouse will just change the magnification of the
street view with the slightest movement of one's hand on the mouse.
Click on an arrow in the google map's street view and of course the
magic mouse will decide to enlarge or shrink the view. This swiping
feature also does things in other programs, many times screwing up
something you are working on. This is especially true when using
CAD programs. Why in the name of all that is Holy did Apple not
allow a user to turn off the swiping feature in the mouse
settings. Anyway, the only fix I found was to use an older USB
wired mouse with a scroll wheel as opposed to the irritating
Apple mouse that has no way of turned off the swiping feature
if I am using a CAD program or want to use the street view in Google Maps.

I have a green magic mouse that came with my green M1 iMac (it replaced my 2007 iMac and a noisy "touch" Microsoft mouse) and it did take a while to learn how to hold the thing. I hold it with my thumb on one side and with my pinky and ring finger on the other. I admit that it did hurt my hand at first but my hand no longer hurts after a couple months of using it. I like the weight that it has and the two long feet on the bottom make it easy to move on different surfaces. The lazer is very accurate as well (just don't hold the mouse backwards, the pointer will go the opposite way).

Alright, my take on this topic:
First, quick backstory: I bought an M1 iMac a couple of months ago, and I *REALLY* didn't have any more budget to upgrade to a Magic Trackpad - During the initial setup, it asks you to connect the Magic Mouse, so I did and started using it. At first I thought at the end of the setup I wouldn't like the Magic Mouse and use my old mouse instead. I was SO wrong, I don't think I'm going to use my old mouse ever again (unless the charge runs out and I really need that mouse)
I really like the quality, it's Apple quality so it's * mwah * (that was supposed to be a chef's kiss btw ;-;).
It only took me a few days to get used to this form factor. I was kinda confused on how to hold it, but a quick TH-cam tutorial taught me how :) (pro tip, INCREASE THE TRACKING SPEED IN SYSTEM SETTINGS. TRUST ME. Also enable right click too, I have NO idea why it's disabled by default.)
The ergonomics aren't too bad for me, I can use the mouse for hours and not get cramps. Though if you have big hands or something, using this might feel uncomfortable.
I know it's a paid program, but nobody mentions BetterTouchTool so might as well. It's basically a program to let you make/customize a lot of shortcuts with the Magic Mouse. It's not specific to the Magic Mouse though, it also has some other device options like: Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, MacBook keyboard, MacBook trackpad, Normal Mouse etc. It's really powerful so you should at least download the *trial* to see if you like it.
The mouse does work on Windows as well, just the pairing might be slightly harder.
And lastly, no. The charging port really didn't bother me. As the guy said, it only takes 2 minutes for 9 hours of charge, and a full charge should last you around 2 months. So just grab some coffee, sit back, relax, and wait for your mouse to charge.

The reason people love them is for the multitouch gestures. It's a touchpad on top of a mouse, and that let's you do a lot of things that other mice don't. Once you get used to using it, you probably won't want to go back. If people didn't like them, you see them used cheap from apple users who switched back. You don't.

Could you elaborate about how the touch gestures, and middle click/scroll, feel? That's the selling point of it to me. My most used program is probably Blender. It has a lot of right-click-drag and middle mouse button scrolling/click-dragging. I was hoping the touch surface would be more pleasant for that.

They sell the black one by itself now. I’ve got all 3 generations of the Mx master and have a 3S at home and the office and recently put my office MX aside for the Magic Mouse. Here’s my thoughts.
I couldn’t care less about the charging port. If it gets low, I still have enough to last through the day and plug in when I leave.
Better touch tool unlocks a MOUNTAIN of potential with gestures and tweaks to touch areas, sensitivity, etc. it can now, function-wise, do everything my MX master could do and more.
I’ve trashed a couple MX’s because the rubber sides eventually get tacky and gross. There is no way to stop it from happening or fix it (that I know of) and this material doesn’t exist on the MM. same for the lack of scroll wheel to get dirty and that’s a pain to clean.
It took me a while to get used to holding the MM but I’ve always been claw grip so the adjustment wasn’t too bad.
Lastly, and the biggest thing, is connectivity. I’ve tried 3 MX 3S’s and all 3 had laggy and stutters with Bluetooth on both my M1 Mac mini and my M1 Max MBP. Using the bolt connector fixes that but only if using a usb c port on the bacbook itself…a thunderbolt dock port still has lag and stutter with the bolt adapter. The MM gives me a port back on my Macs and has been 100% silky smooth.

I’m considering the Magic Mouse - mainly as a travel mouse. I’d still use my trackpad + Logitech g608 at home…but on the go, the Magic Mouse looks like a really convenient solution.

MX Master FTW. I got a free Magic Mouse that's now 12 years old yesterday, and decided to switch out to the Magic Mouse to try it for a few days. I used to use it as my daily mouse for a couple years until I got a Razer Oroborous, and I enjoyed it. With the touch surface it does most of the same things the MX Master does (but not all, and not as well). I love the design (white or black, I don't really care), so I'm going to stick with it until I get tired of it. But the MX Master has been my daily mouse for about 2 years.

I'm a developer and have been on the windows platform forever, recently moving more over to the Apple side and find many Apple-esque things super annoying. Mostly, the right click of the trackpad doesn't actually bring up right-click functionality. Seriously? We have to hold down Option+Click? WTF!? I'm hoping getting a mouse for this Macbook Pro gives me some control over that. Anyone know? Anyone feel my pain?

Hello at apple we decided to get rid of everything useful, yes that right this mouse is about as useless as it gets. Here is the short list of everything we can do.
    1: Its very light
    2: Good batter life
    3: Terrible long term use
4: We got rid of the right muse button because who like useful things
5: We got rid of the scroll whele because who no one enjoys being able to have a nice constant scroll rate(yes that means this mouse is terrible for gaming)
    6: This mouse can click
7: This mouse can change between pages quickly
8: This mouse is horrendous for anything other then going on to google (yes even if we have safari we know you got google instead because google has much better search results)
9: Its expensive for no reason and in reality it is one of the worst mice out there
10: Status symbol no one likes looking like those poor people who don't pay for something that is really bad
So pleased continue to give us your money even if we give you something that really sucks in return :)

    1. 2 minutes of charging = 9 hours. Yeah it should charge in the rear, but trivial complaint. Cramping isn't an issue for me: hand hovers over it a lot to use touchpad. Then they probably have a patent covering touchpad component, so there have been improvements with other mice, but it's like making a better CD burner when someone else makes USB drives. The Magic mouse is unique in what it does.

The video title is just a bad choice. I've been using a magic mouse for years, no problem with ergonomics whatsoever, but you should use it with a pad, not with bare hands as you do in the video! The "ergonomic" mouse that you are showing would force me to raise my wrist each time as I am moving from the keyboard, which would not be very ergonomic. Also having to use a scroll wheel (and another finger than the one I use for tapping) is a no go. Having the touchpad included in the mouse is a must for me. Horizontal scrolling on a separate wheel? No thank you. And why not use a trackpad and magic mouse together, to benefit from both? And regarding the position of the charging port, everyone complaining about that should read the article "The Apple Magic Mouse design is intentional and brilliant". I understand Apple has disappointed their customers many times in the past, but come on they are not that stupid. Some basic research should be done before posting such video reviews online.

  • @narrowpath2980

bad option putting the charge port in the belly side compared to the proper common sense of the correct way so when the battery loses its charge it can still be used compared to the non common sense belly charge way. was this intentional ?

  • @clouddeveloper9558
    @clouddeveloper9558 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The charging port is at the bottom probably because it will burn up during usage and charging so they made it unusable during charging. You have to flip it to charge it so logically it cannot function and be charged. They have some flaw which they won't admit.

Thanks for the video, I’d love to complete the ecosystem with this Magic Mouse but if it’s not ergonomic enough it is a useless waste of lots of money, I had found a nice alternative to it in the Satechi mouse which is made of aluminium and can be found in the same colors as the MacBooks, that really looks great and always worked wonderfully (until it stopped working after a year :/)

I would think that one of the things that makes the apple mouse a plus would be that to connect it, you dont have to use up a port to connect. At least from what I see online. I dont own one but from what I have seen, it doesn't use a port to connect.

I purchased an iMac 2021 last year which I really love, but it came with the Magic Mouse which I don't love so much. It's just so clunky and awkward. Using the Magic Mouse feels like I'm wearing an oven mitt compared to the Logitech G903 that I use on my other PC. Apple could and really should redesign this mouse.

I do have a Magic Mouse 2, which I used with my iPad Pro. However, I couldn't see the battery level at a glance on the Batteries widget I found irksome, so I moved it to my work laptop bag. My compact iPad travel tech bag now includes an MS Arc Mouse. The charge level is shown on the Batteries widget, so I don't have to go into Settings.

I’m new to this channel. I like your content! I don’t know why people hate the magic mouse. It’s really not that bad. Yeah I completely agree the charging port shouldn’t be on the bottom at all but I think it’s comfortable. I think it connects a lot better than the other mouses do to Mac 🖥

Although I never understood the huge hate towards the charging port being on the bottom from people in general. My Magic Mouse, which is now 3ish years old, still last roughly 1-2 months on one charge. And I use it 5-6 days a week for about 7-10 hours per day. If you can't remember to charge it for one night during that time, then thats really on the person. I mean people charge their phones everyday, they can remember to charge the mouse once every 1-2 months (3 months when it was newer).

I disagree, it’s perfect for most people’s needs. It looks great, great for scrolling, rarely needs to be charged works perfect for MacOS. Charging it from the bottom is a none issue too since I charge it overnight. Apple clearly has data and if it was not selling well it would’ve been gone. Look at the HomePod, iPhone Mini etc. Now people who need extra functionality don’t like it and that’s understandable but most people are fine with it. Having said that I’d love for it to be updated.

magic mouse is buff for girls. So many boys complaining but perf size for girls with smaller hands + is so pretty. Comfiest mouse for me all the “ergonomic” ones are too big for small hands anddddd good for left handers. Charger on the bottom is stupid but you have to charge like twice a week so not really inconvenient so yah buy if u want a pretty mouse (especially if u have small hands)

I just wish that Apple would make a bulkier mouse. The back charger literally doesn't matter since the mouse battery lasts for so long; you can fully charge the thing in an hour. The sensitivity is a bit low on this mouse than I'm used to. It's not a bad device by any means, but Apple can improve this device.

The 20000 Mac Pro best works with Microsoft standard BLACK mouse :) but we don't need a 20000 Mac Pro anymore, ProRes works very well on Windows with RTX 3090 (or less), an M.2 HDD and a medium processor. The Iphone is what is needed for now, but i don't know for how long. And that mouse was sh.t form the start. No ergonomics, heavy, no middle scroll as a BUTTON or a WHEEL (what is NEEDED by the finger), no middle click, HUGE LAG, can't be used for video editing for what the 20000 MacPro was designed for. It is a BIG "NO" for the MacPro and the mouse. The Iphone is ok for now. Apple, wake up!
