    Nancy wanted that fairytale romance, to be swept off her feet by a Prince Charming. She’s the kind of girl who read stories that Giselle was apart of and wanted to be in her place. She wasn’t very upset because she settled for Robert imo, he wasn’t her dreamy prince however, he is a very put together and genuine guy.
    However, Giselle realizes she prefers the real world and it shows when she picks a modern dress to wear at the ball unlike everyone else who went who indulged in the fantasy of going to a ball. She didn’t want to go back to a fantasy, she wanted to stay in reality.

      Plus Morgan wasn't too thrilled that her dad was going marry Nancy, suggesting that she doesn't have have connection with Nancy (although she might like Nancy). With Giselle, it kinda clicked instantly and when she and Morgan went shopping, it really felt like they were like a mom and daughter. She even asked Giselle if this is was like to be shopping with her mother. Also when Giselle said "And now you'll have a new mother." Morgan replies "You mean a step-mother." which suggests that she wasn't too thrilled about having Nancy as her step-mom (and because she is into fairy tales despite Robert not wanting to tell her those stories to not encourage her believe in fairy tale love that he once did, she must have heard the story of Cinderella and Snow White as she must have been aware of bad step mothers and finds the connection between Nancy and those step-mothers).

      I agree. Plus Nancy really only started to seem interested in Robert after those flowers sent by the doves because it’s a very romantic fairytale-like gesture that no one ever really does. Nancy seems way happier with Edward because he’s a hopeless romantic just like her and she gets what she always wanted

    Robert was wearing the blue suit at the ball that Giselle had a dream about in the beginning. She truly was meant to be with Robert. He and Nancy weren't engaged. He says it twice that he hadn't proposed yet. Nancy wanted to live in a fairy-tale world.

    Interesting you said you wonder if that sort of thing it ever happens. It reminds me of how my ex-husband fell for someone else. I told them they should be together and now they’re married with a couple of kids and we’re all some friends! I cared more about their happiness and I didn’t want to be with someone who loved someone else anyway 🤷🏾‍♀️

    💙Love Enchanted! Nancy was a good character. Nancy & Robert had probably grown 'comfortable' with each other, but it wasn't love. I was proud she knew her self-worth. And if Robert loved Giselle then good wishes to them. She is now married to 'King' Edward & is Queen of Andalasia!

  • @paramitch
    @paramitch 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Great reaction! I love this movie -- that Nancy's nice and deserves her happy ending, letting go of 5 years of effort with Robert for Edward who is effortlessly right, and that Giselle frees Robert to sing, dance, and feel joy again.
    Fun trivia: Nancy (fabulous WICKED Broadway star Idina Menzel) was the voice of Elsa in FROZEN, Robert's secretary is played by Jodi Benson (the original voice of Ariel in THE LITTLE MERMAID animated movie), the woman in the soap opera is Paige O'Hara (the voice of Belle from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST) and the woman who says "you're too late" to the prince is played by famed Broadway star Judy Kuhn, who was the voice of Pocahontas in POCAHONTAS! The dancing old men who give flowers to the old ladies in "How Do You Know?" were all chimney sweeps in MARY POPPINS. I love that the movie honored them all like that.
    The actor who plays Edward wasn't Superman (although he was Lois's boyfriend in SUPERMAN RETURNS) -- he's James Marsden, of the X-MEN movies, 27 DRESSES, HAIRSPRAY, etc. He was also hilarious in JURY DUTY (Amazon show). Hugely underrated actor and so good here, and of course Amy Adams is perfection.
    My one minor complaint is that Robert's daughter Morgan is consistently kind of a jerk to Nancy and for no reason that we can see (and keeps sneering at "stepmother" despite knowing Nancy as a nice person for FIVE YEARS?!) Giselle is just as much a stepmother as Nancy was, so that little aspect is a little frustrating. Yes, Giselle is adorable, but Morgan had no reason to be so rude to Nancy every single time.

      Yes, and the animated Belle (actress on the soap opera) and Pocahontas (singing voice -- she's the one who told Edward he was "too late"; I imagine the implication is that with a houseful of kids, it's a decade late for her dream prince to show up).

      Other fun facts!
      The narrator is Julie Andrews, aka Mary Poppins.
      The restaurant is called Bella Notte like the song from Lady and the Tramp.
      The news reporter’s name is Mary Ilene Caselotti, combining the three names of the original voice actors for Sleeping Beauty (Mary Costa), Cinderella (Ilene Woods) and Snow White (Adriana Caselotti).
      Not only is Belle’s voice actor, Paige O’Hara, in the soap opera, the show’s characters are named Angela and Jerry after her BATB co-stars Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts) and Jerry Orbach (Lumiere).
      Some of the old men dancers in That’s How You Know were chimney sweeps in Mary Poppins.
      Nancy’s last name is Tremaine, which was the name of Cinderella’s stepmother (Lady Tremaine). Also, Robert’s last name is Philip, which is the name of the Prince in Sleeping Beauty who, like Robert did for Giselle, awakened Aurora with true love’s kiss.

    My speculation of how Edward and Nathaniel could pay for the food was that they had gold coins from Andalacia, which the resturant accepted because they could sell the coins for lot of money (or Edward and Nathaiel exchanged their coins for US Dollars).

    This movie is the ultimate Easter egg film. If it’s not something in the background or something a character is doing, it’s an actor. Like the old men who were Mary Poppins Chimney Sweeps.

  • @memorymotions
    @memorymotions 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    If it makes you feel better there’s tons of clues about why the couples switched. For one, dating for five years as an established adult seems like a bad sign, and Robert made it clear there was no “romantic whim” stuff between them. He’d hardened his heart to love and was just being practical. However, they showed Nancy as loving romantic things even though her boyfriend was reluctant to give them. She also loved the way Edward spoke so openly about love. Gizelle, on the other hand, loved both Robert and his daughter. She brought positivity and optimism back to their lives and he brought stability and a genuineness to her that she hadn’t known. Also, the film is about bringing a fairytale and whimsy to our reality. And, in reality, you rarely marry the first person you meet/date. Sometimes finding the person for you is more complicated than a Disney meet cute, but it’s ultimately worth it.

  • @mevb

    In a deleted scene right before the taxi scene, Robert gets her daughter from The Golden Dragon karate dojo which comfirms that Morgan is doing karate, though the dialouge heavy suggests that Robert insisted her to take karate classes so she could defend herself in the future from men that potentially wants to rape her. It was cut and replaced with the scene before at the law office, as the scene outside the dojo didn't tell anything about Robert's character.

    Nancy is Idina Menzel! Absolutely wild she was like the one person that didn't get a song when she is an amazing singer and is the voice of Elsa in Frozen. She gets a song in the sequel. I think the sequel is fun but not like ESSENTIAL viewing! There is a really fun duet song though.

    • @truthseeker9249
      @truthseeker9249 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Idina was actually happy that she wasn't singing for this. She was happy that for once the people who cast her in something only wanted her for her acting capabilities and not her voice. It was a good reminder to herself that she really is an amazing actress too.

    I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this movie!!!! Amy Adams gives a MINDBLOWINGLY INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE!! She is the PERFECT embodiment of Giselle through the whole film... From when she came out of the manhole straight from Andalasia, to fighting the wicked step mother at the end... She even made her movements more fluid so she looked like a cartoon... The songs were ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! Every single one was good, and the "How does she know" number was FUCKING CRAZY!!!!! If I ever hear that song, it's literally stuck in my head for at least 24 hours. The "How does she know" scene is also the most INCREDIBLE one in the movie, they must have had at least 750 extras for that shit, ALL DOING PERFECT CHOREOGRAPHY!!!

    There are tons of references to the Disney Princess movies as well as other Disney animated movies. For instance: The Troll have a loincloth which consists of the dresses of the Disney Princesses (up until that point) plus he has the sea shells from Ariel's bikini top as his ear rings (suggeting that he might have eaten them), Jodi Benson (voice of Ariel) plays Sam the secretary, Judy Kuhn (the singing voice of Pocahontas) plays the the pregnant single mother who thought Edward was her ex-husband, Paige O'Hara (Belle in Beauty and The Beast) plays Angela on the soap opera that Edward and Nathaniel watches on the TV at the hotel (her name is a reference to late Dame Angela Lansbury who voiced Mrs. Potts and her boyfriend Jerry is a reference to Jerry Orbach, the voice of Lumieré, and the name Odgen is mentioned refering to Cogsworth's voice late David Ogden Steers), the children's play of Rapunzel in That's How You Know references then in-production movie Tangled (which was called Rapunzel during production), Julie Andrews narrates at the beginning of the movie as she played the title character in Mary Poppins, one of the dancing elderly gentlemen were infact one of the chimeny swepers from Mary Poppins (revealed in the behind the scenes of That's How You Know), The resturant where Giselle and Robert have their "date" is named Bella Note after the song in Lady and the Tramp, Part of Your World is played as background music when Giselle looks at the fish tank, at the book store at the end there's a poster for Merryweather's Guide to Bakin which refers to one of the Good Fairies in Sleeping Beauty, Robert's surname is Philip referring to Aurora's love Prince Philip in Sleeping Beauty, Nancy's surname is Tremaine which is the surname of The Stepmother in Cinderella, a supporting character (played by Cathleen Trigg) is named Mary Illene Caselotti named after the voice actresses Mary Coast (Aurora), Illene Woods (Cinderella) and Adriana Caselotti (Snow White), the poisoned caramell apple which Nathaniel gives Giselle have the same skull-like pattern from Snow White when The Evil Queen dips the apple into the poisoned brew, while Edward flips through channels at the hotel part of Pink Elephants on Parade is heard, you can also see from Fun and Fancy Free when Mortimer Snerd cries saying "I don't like sad endings" and you can hear part of "Fee Fi Fo Fum", Narcissa calling Giselle a forest rat like Jafar called Aladdin a street rat and the law firm that Robert works at is named Churchill, Harline and Smith named after Frank Chuchill, Leigh Harline and Paul Smith, the guys who wrote the music for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

    Disenchanted is divisive, and different people will have different opinions; my own feeling is that you could leave it alone.
