The factory immobiliser normally kills the feed to the fuel pump. Electronic pumps usually prime very quickly but when you refitted the ECU and the car wouldn't start, it was probably just pulling fuel through and would have started with a couple more attempts.
Running on carb cleaner allowed the fuel to reach the engine then it picked up on its own.
Also the same if the inertia cut-off trips.
    Glad it's back 👍

He should of just turned the ignition couple times and wait for fuel pump to turn off which you can hear while you turn ignition on i had to take out the fuel pump couple times and i just turned ignition couple times and it turned on without a problem every time

Not starting when you have cautiously put it all together and starting the next day. the Alfa is showing some true Italian character! Maybe you should make wide gestures and shout "Il macchina non va!" next time 😂

The Alfa was just having a strop as it was embarrassed by the speed bump. Lovely thing!

I agree about the lack of a dipstick. Had a 'too much oil' type warning on my car after a service. Took it back to the garage. It was fine. A known software issue, resolved by removing a litre and adding it again. Just give us back our flipping dipsticks!

I did something very similar for a friend some years ago, where the immobiliser failed in a Honda Prelude - the replacement was a PIC-based solution bought from eBay. I took my desoldering station with me and in under an hour we had a running Prelude.

Great work. Boy I was glad to see that Alfa start. I have for a while now been feeling a bit superior having an R56 MINI but I am now convinced that your R50 is the Genesis and not an inferior MINI. The Chrysler Engine is unique now. Ours has the Prince 1.6 122 bhp Peugeot unit which Mr Lloyd refuses to talk about.
    Happy motoring Boss enjoy.

so was the immobiliser linked to the factory key fob for unlocking the doors or didn't it have that function before?

I see you've got the red key with the single button. You should be able to get the factory alarm and remote central locking working if you can find the right person to decode your receiver. The immobiliser is a completely separate system from the alarm and remote locking. My 916 Spider uses the same system and I sent off the receiver and boards from within the keys to a very helpful chap called GialloEvo on an Alfa 145 forum and he reset the receiver back to factory defaults and provided me with the codes from my remotes. I don't know if he still does it because I had it done 7 years ago. I went from having to unlock my Alfa physically with the key to a fully working remote central locking and alarm system with codes to program any additional remotes in the future. I've also got the workshop manual for the Alfa 145 alarm and remote locking system if you like.
This thread was very helpful during my 'quest' for working factory remote locking. forum.alfa145.com/index.php?showtopic=21459

Sagging headliner is not just a problem with British made cars. It is a problem with just about all modern cars now as they get older and the foam behind the headliner breaks down and turns to dust and that is what the glue sticks the headliner to the backing board with so nothing left to stick to when it starts to turn to dust. The usual numpties who have to slag off British at every opportunity because they have listened to their mates or diddies from Top Gear etc. Funny how British and all other cars never had any problems with headliners when they used the previous vinyl and wire headliners that outlived the cars as long as the owners did not rip them etc.

This is why I hate modern cars: the sagging headliner of the pre-production car is a VERY minor annoyance compared to the oil check with the display and menu's in the new Mini. It's all software, and all software comes with faults that will only be fixed when the manufacturer takes the effort to fix it, you cannot repair or modify it yourself because the code is a trade secret and will never be disclosed, also you need to pay an expensive visit to the dealer to get the software updated. These cars are built with planned obsolescence, because when the display breaks it will render your car virtually useless. If a replacement is unavailable or more expensive than the car is worth, you can take your car to the scrapyard. The 2001 pre-production Mini R50 will most definitely live another 10 years, while the F54 will probably never reach 20 years.

@@williamwoods8022 but still, with some glue you can fix this. Ask any Saab owner.
However, when the computer or display fails you're SOL.
