For the hose, I'd either put a small piece of duct tape on it, then cover it with a piece or two of heat shrink tubing, or use a inner tube patch kit. There are a lot of other options that don't involve buying a whole new hose. You could also buy a hose repair splice/coupling for a couple of dollars, instead of buying a whole new hose.

the Rubber band life hack I use all the time is for opening lids and caps that are screwed on way too tight. just put the rubber band around the cap for some extra grip. very useful and effective.
