2015 Buick Encore Honest Review: Can I find appeal in an ugly car?

- As a follow up to my series on the 5 ugliest cars on the lot, I was faced with the challenge of finding the good in the Buick Encore, which reached the #2 spot. I took a deeper look at the car to find features that made me appreciate the car beyond it's aesthetic shortcomings. This was a classic case of beauty being beyond skin deep. Still not my favorite car, but I can see why someone would appreciate owning one.

The only thing to remember with this small engine get you oil changed on time and have the required maintenance done on time and you'll be fine
The copilots seat plastic back it has a purpose.....that seat folds down so if you have larger items you can fold not only the back seats but also the front copilot seat, so you can place a ladder or a surf table and a leather back would get scratches and stuff.
Everything happems for a reason on the encore.

@Kelli W same here with heated seats/steering wheel, duel climate control with caramel and chocolate seats with brown wood grain and turbo engine! Received as a bday gift a few yrs back from my guy. I also received my tag and title by that following month so no car payments for me!😊
I have had my Buick Encore for 4 years now, I bought it used, I love it! Great mileage, good comfort. Rides good
Just got back from vacation in Hawaii. We rented an encore and I absolutely loved it. We explored Oahu ever single day for 8 days straight on $40 worth of gas. That little guy was a trooper and I’m serious considering buying one!

My wife owns a Buick Encore. And she Loves it. And i actually like the little Dude myself. And for a 4 cyl it has plenty of power. After i bought it for her. I drove it to a Drs appt. And i thought i was going about 60mph? But, all of a sudden i saw Blue lights behind me. So, of course i pull over. The cop comes up & he says: Sir, do you know how fast i clocked you going Up hill? I was totally honest with him. I said: No Sir? To be honest with you. This is my wifes car & i was listening to some of my favorite music. The Classic 70s Rock "BTO, Steppenwolf, GFR/Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger, etc, etc. & i was in the moment & a Jammin. i said: Honestly i wasn't paying any attn to it? He said: Sir, i clocked you doing 89mph & that was you going uphill. I said: NO Way? He said: Yes 89 uphill. So, he ask for my license, ins & registration. I gave him my license, Registration & ins card. But, the ins card had lapsed. But, we had ins. But, my wife had put it on the other cell phone that she had at home. So, i said: Sir, i will not lie to you? I've told my wife we've got to get rid of this car. Because i'm Allergic to it. He just kinda looked at me really strange & said: What do you mean you're allergic to this car? I said: Well Sir. It's gonna cause me to "Break out in handcuffs"! So, he got tickled & had to turn his head so i wouldn't see him laugh? I said: This little sucker will Fly. So, where my wife had the ins on her phone. I had to call her to get the Expiration date & all that stuff. So, he gets on the phone with my wife to get the ins info. And he tells her "Ma'am, do you know how fast i clocked your husband goiing Uphill? I said: Don't tell her that..she will kill me when i get home. So, he told her.& he said: Ok, i have 3 options. #1 i can take his license & take him to jail, or i#2 I can write him a speeding ticket? Or he said: IF, you will Promise me when he gets home that you will take a belt or a broomstick to him? I will let him go with a Warning. Because, he was honest with me & he did not try to make any excuses? So, she tells him "Don't write him a ticket Please. Because it will double our ins. And she said: I have a broom here waiting on him.But, he got SO tickled over me saying that i was Allergic to that car. That he couldn't hardly talk for laughing? He said: I've heard every excuse you can think of. But, he said: That's the 1st time i've ever heard anyone say that they're allergic to a car & it's gonna cause them to break out in handcuffs. He said: That is Original & i can't wait to get to the Police Barracks & tell this one? He said: Because you were Totally honest with me.And for you being so polite & really courteous. I'm just gonna write you a Warning. With a kinda Snort laugh. He says: So, just slow down Please. As he was walking back to his Cruiser. He turns & says: Wait up a minute. He said: Slow down because another trooper is sitting about a mile down the road with a Radar. So, i Thanked him & i pulled out. And when i pulled out i kinda squealed the tires. Not intentionally? But, because that was like the 2nd-3rd time i'd driven the car & the Power it has will Really surprise you. That was approx 3-4yrs ago & she still has the Encore & it still runs as good as it did the day we bought it. I've always had really good luck with Buicks. When i bought it for her. It was Pre-owned. I told her to pick out Any car she wanted. I tried to get her to get her a New one. But, she was dead set on the Encore. It only had like 11,000 miles on it when i bought it. It still only has like 52-53,000 on it now. So, i went to "Carvanna" & "Vroom" i believe it was to see What they'd give me for it now? The offer they sent me was only about $1,500 Less than what i gave for it about 4 yrs ago. Like i said: I've always had Really good luck with Buicks. So, would I recommend it if someone ask me IF i'd buy another one? YES, i Absolutely would. It has Paid for itself with the gas mileage. She can drive it for almost 2 weeks on a tank of gas. I have a Dodge Ram 1500 & every-time i go near a gas station. It will pretty much pull up to the gas pumps on its own. But, i just Lucked Out when i got pulled by getting a Cop with a good sense of humor. So, TRY that Reason for speeding if you ever get pulled over? I Hope it works as good for you guys as it did for me? It got me Out of a pretty High priced Speeding ticket & possibly going to jail & suspension of my drivers license too? So, just always be Honest. Because Honesty DOES PAY!! Good Luck, Take Care & God Bless!! And stay OUT of vehicles that you are or could be Allergic to. Lol.. Sorry so long. But, i had to tell this. And YESS this is a TRUE Story!! Lol....

Thank you for being so detailed! I loved how you were able to find the good in this car, even though you weren’t a fan in the beginning. Definitely my dream car, but that doesn’t mean others will like it! All a matter of taste😂 thanks again!
I own a 2018 Buick encore, beautiful inside and out, it has a lot of power and very roomy, the only problem i see with it is the trunk area, for a family of 4 buying groceries and figuring out how to pack them in is a bit challenging. Over all a solid car.
I have had my Buick Encore about 5 years and I love it. I still get compliments all the time about how beautiful this car is. My only problem is the radio skips from bluetooth to USB to radio each time I hit a bunp
I own a 2015 Buick Encore. I bought it used in April of 2023. what impressed me most about the car has nothing to do with the Cosmetic appearance of it. it was the 59,000 miles on the odometer. I am a male and you know how we are about our cars. since the purchase date I have fallen in love with this car. I love the red color. I love the rounded shape. I love how it handles. since the purchase a couple of things I've kind of gone wrong. the radio powers on every time. but there are times there is no sound from any of the speakers. when the sound is on I never know how long it's going to stay on. it can also stop right in the middle of a song. the second thing is the controller on the turn signal lever that controls information such as miles per gallon and some Diagnostics will only provide some information. according to the owner's manual I am missing several items of information.
beyond that I'm happy with the vehicle. my next vehicle purchase will be a new vehicle. I would consider the new Buick Encore.

One thing that did surprise me, that I haven’t seen on any other vehicle I’ve owned, that when the low tire pressure light comes on, it tells you the tire that’s low, and what the pressure is on that tire

Love my 2015 Encore. Plenty of pep with the turbo. My only complaint r the rear seat head rest which somewhat block the view for the driver. Would strongly recommend this car for the price.
I have my first 2019 Buick Encore perferred I had it awhile n I think it’s cute n I enjoy it n the gas mileage is awesome n planning to keep it forever
I actually got One of these with the black interior from Carmax with 15k on it. It’s a good car for road trips other than not being fast. The ac gave out at 17k and now the transmission is starting to struggle at 62k. I live in Arizona and it only does it in the heat so that’s something to take into consideration

I have the British version 2017. Its called a vauxhall mokka x. They known for there reliability. It drives nice.
I drive a 15 Encore. I don't have to own a Toyota because of this great car.
We just bought one. But here in South Africa and Europe, it's called an Opel Mokka (Vauxhall Mokka in the UK). Silly name but a lovely vehicle. Of course the steering wheel is on the correct side here (RHD) and the front grille is different to the Buick's, but it's the same car.
THE PASSENGER SEAT IT IS DIFFERENT FOR A REASON DUMMY!!! The passenger seat does the full fold down!

I have owned five Encores since 2015. Loved cars! Up to 35 mpg on the highway. Really liked the higher driving position.
Wow! Why 5 in 3 years?
Started out with a 2015 convenience, traded up to two 2016 premiums, and then traded up to two 2017 top of the line Encores. Will probably trade up again in 2019. I love the Encores! I put around 50,000 miles a year on my cars.
Wow, you really do like the Encore! Though it is not my cup of tea, I can now understand what people like about it. And it makes more sense now as to why you trade in so fast, knowing you drive 50k miles a year. I must say the new line of redesigned Buicks are really impressive. I think they finally nailed it with this latest generation of their cars, especially the Regal, which is stunning. (Also branded as the Opel Insignia, Vauxhall Insignia and Holden Commodore). Now that I think Buick is finding their modern day stride, I'd love to see a revival of the Riviera and the Grand National!
Looking to buy one. But you did not mention if it has a navigation system.

Seat back difference is due to being able to fully lay down the passenger seat for more storage area
why does this car not have any navigation system ? - my 2015 leather has everything else but no Navi button or icon - A bit frustrated

I just bought one. While not my favorite. It is pretty nice. And its very quiet. Nice to drive. But yes,,,, its seems a dragged speed response. Not familliar w the shifter yet. Its older, 2014. So worried bout trying it. Funny video. Lol
I have a 2014, bought right off the lot because I LOVED THE STYLE. At 6 years old, replaced a battery. Not one other problem since. Would buy one again. Now 2023, love it still.

I own a 2015 Buick Encore Premium, and it has AWD. Thus, front wheel drive is NOT the only option. Also, I live in the Catskill Mountains where I work at a ski resort. We get ZERO snow days, meaning we work when the shit gets deep. I've driven it in deep snow, and while it may not be a rock crawler, I haven't missed a day because I couldn't make it in. By the way, it's based on the British Vauxhall Mokka. The Premium model has a Bose sound system with a clever little trick: There's a noise cancelling speaker under the doughnut spare beneath the trunk floor. I have snow tires that stay on all year; you get about an inch of rise and a smoother ride.

It's not the worst car I've driven.
We just got one for my wife who just learned to drive at 43 yrs old. Right now I’m mad because the battery it dead after just 2 months but other than that it’s ok. I’m a Honda guy always. Never owned AMERICA and never will for myself. But being a new driver I liked how it’s not so curved it makes it easier for her to see all 4 ways. But I also admit I don’t think this car will last like a Honda does. It’s nice. But seems weak. We only drive in the city so not sure how it does on the freeway. If anyone can help me tho I’m having trouble learning all the tech stuff as this is my first new car with technology in it. It’s very confusing.

Hi, I am looking at a 2015 buick encore. I am researching and find many mixed reviews especially about the issues. ( engine troubles, turbo troubles, brake issues etc... ) any one have any more comments/experiences about these issues. Looking at a decision within the next day or two

@Bdogg90 well, I haven't had any issues with it. However, i dont drive that far. Do I like it? Well, it is smaller and more cramped than I initially thought it was. Other Than that, it goes where I want it to.
Oh and my 2015 is All Wheel Drive!
Only having a 1.4 it has a lot of power. When I pull off the ramp onto the highway, I get up to eighty miles per hour in just about twenty or so feet

That arm rest makes me want to buy one of those cars! I've been looking for a mid size SUV type, and all the newer vehicles seem to have a middle consul that stops short of anyone's elbow who sits farther back from the foot pedals than I do. Frustrating! Loved your review; this would go much faster for me if you did this for everything. lol
Lack of a passenger armrest (or center console that would solve the entire problem) makes me NOT want to buy one of these cars!

People say it's under powered I beat a Chrysler 300 in a race today with my 2015 model.
The Buick encore matches the times of gas and you would never miss a beat in comfort .while watching a truck put $150.00 worth of gas in while your filling back up your gas tank after a run putting in 10 or 20.00 dollars in the tank. it is so refreshing keeping your pay check.while smiling at the pump and still in comfort
I own a souped up suv and this smaller Buick encore I drive the Buick daily .it's my go to vehicle it fits the times .I've noticed most poeple have a little gas saver car and a big truck or SUV in there driveway. for those who haven't decided to spend 45 to 90 thousand for a electric or hybrid SUV or car this is the make sense of it all vehicle of the times. Its the no 1gas rated SUV . Little but true

I have the european version 2017. Auto. Its a relaxing drive. One of the most popular cars here. I found it easier to drive then my old car. To me its just a car. I could do worse. As this I am a fairly new driver with too children its easy to drive.

How is that car ugly I think it's the coolest small suv on the road but they are so expensive , I am constantly watching for one that is lower priced and with not too much mileage. But absolutely needs and bigger arm rest that opens up for storage .

The funnest part is watching people ride in this heat ,with there windows down trying to conserve there gas while sweating in there beautiful big car or truck lol . beat the heat and burn as much a/c as you wont and not have to watch the gas hand go swosh luaghing as you role.
Bought a '14 Encore in 2015. Likes: quiet cabin, dashboard and controls, front and rear lights and lights on side mirrors, nice lighting for the front blinkers, front drivers seat is very comfortable for me and yes the armrest. Dislikes: weak engine, light blue dashboard lighting hard to see in daytime, engine and components.....I've had the most irritating things go wrong before the bumper to bumper expired. Just faulty parts that were inferior, cracked or wore out. Things that I've never heard of going wrong on anyone else's cars plus past cars I've owned. Now I've had several things go wrong after the b2b warranty expired and under 51K miles so now I'm paying hundreds of dollars a pop on each visit to the dealer. I no longer can trust GM. I'll return to an Asian car on my next purchase as I've always gotten better service out of them and for longer time.
