    Well done Ali and Aiden. Thank you for sharing your fantastic video, I really enjoyed sharing your experience. Looks like you had more mud, snow and leeches then when I solo hiked the AAWT in the same direction about a month before. I had a similar timeframe and lots of similar experiences - no rest days and I also decided to skip the Hotham road which was dangerous in the fog and took the chairlift from Thredbo with a pack full of food (and tummy too!). Great footage of the frost heave which I missed out on too! Thanks, Mish

    Enjoyed it very much, your enthusiasm was infectious, I can't believe how much good weather you had for a May walk. I did the Walhalla to Hotham section in Nov Dec 2021 and copped very wet weather from Speculation to Hotham just like you, got blown off my feet on the Hotham road it was so windy, had to bail a day early. Looking forward to the next section of Hotham to Dead Horse in Dec this year.

      Haha thanks the video is a bit biased. It was hard to keep things dry in the first few weeks that if it was raining I wouldn't pull the camera out in fear of it staying wet to long

      Plenty of young people are capable of it. I imagine many are shackled to mortgages and don't have the leisure time.

    • @escapeaidan
      @escapeaidan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rainwear was the Macpac lightweight prophet jkt and nazomi pants. The Jkt was great but after days on end of rain things just started to get damp all over. I think that would happen with any Jkt you are living and sweating into. As for the pants they were really lightweight but took a beating with all the shrub bashing and now they aren't waterproof anymore. I would get heavier duty rain.

    Great video. Thanks for putting in the effort to make it, so we can all share in your adventure. It was amazing that you both looked happy in almost every scene: that was not always my experience.
    Since walking it, I have become interested in trying to help maintain it, with other volunteers. I would appreciate if you could comment on which parts are most in need of clearing. It looked like Mt Sunday to Low Saddle has quite a few logs that should be chainsawed; Omeo Highway to Gills Creek also seemed to have a bit of treefall, and around Mt Misery, there was quite a bit of fire regrowth that would benefit from brushcutter. Do you think these are the most deserving sections? Are there any other sections we should consider? Thanks for any assistance you can give us.

    • @escapeaidan
      @escapeaidan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Those parts you mentioned could all do with a bit of work and coming down into corner creek after the cut trail ends on Johnnie's top. Although we did that bit in the dark so maybe is wasn't that bad, and we just suck at nav haha? But all in all the ruggedness of the walk kind of makes it more enjoyable in a way, at least in hindsight 🙂

    Awesome, thank you so much for recording it all and editing it together. I know how long that must have taken! I'm planning to do the AWT next year. Have hiked a few spots on the trail over the years but now I want to take the time to do the lot of it. Question for you, would you do it more slowly if you had the chance to redo it all again or were the long hikes into the night worth it? Congrats again, really nice work.

    • @escapeaidan
      @escapeaidan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would have been nice to do some of the side trips and not be so much go go go. In saying that I really enjoy night hiking and think it is a big part of the experience hiking from sunrise to sunset.

      This walk is very different to the PCT you might be a little disappointed with the lack of scenery and groomed trail, however a good way to cure a little post trail depression...
