    Interesting, I was in Uzbekistan 5 month ago. The situation was not nearly as bad for me as you described yours. I flew in through Samarkand and left through the land border to Kazakhstan. Though at the land border the guards tried to take our cash the country itself was very nice and welcoming. Didn't feel like the authorities were giving us a particular hard time for central asian standards.
    Though on that note I know the tajik border is a little more spicy regarding said drug trafficking(Similar to the Afghan border).
    Also they accepted Master Cards in every major city I was. Overall the situation under the new government seems to be considerably less tense..

      Good to hear that you had an overall positive experience Max! I agree, having been back to Uzbekistan in the years since this, the country has definitely improved for the better. Despite this incident, I met so many amazing Uzbek people who could not have been more hospitable.
