    The bug at your 7:00 mark is most likely Cercopis vulnerata, a.k.a. the black-and-red froghopper, which is a member of the spittle bugs - like the ones whose young produce "cuckoo spit" - although the young of this species live underground. Also: much kudos to you and your videographer for going out at 5 AM to take photos and make the video!

    Very steady focus stacking...!! I do that a lot with the same camera and lens. The only issue is I chose a faster flash, Godox v860, so diffuser is bigger now and my hand is always tilting to the front. 😀

    For the metallic green beetle shown at the 12:11 mark: it's very difficult to be sure from such a close-up view but looks like it may be the green malachite beetle, Malachius bipustulatus, judging from your description plus features like the hairy wing case, yellow "face" and especially the very noticeable, bright-red fleshy areas just behind the head and along the sides of the abdomen (called "cocardes" - they can be used to emit defence odours when they are alarmed).

    Amazing work. I have a question. You were able to use flash brush firing mode even with focus stacking. Does mechanichal sutter can perform flash brust firing. I am unable to do such with my R5 and godox v1. Any ideas?

    • @JamieSpensley
      @JamieSpensley  ปีที่แล้ว

      Your camera should be able to fire the flash in burst mode using mechanical shutter. Check your cameras settings in the menu to see if silent shutter is enabled or any quiet shutter mode as this makes your flash not able to fire on most Canon cameras.

  • @shirleydalgetty2654
    @shirleydalgetty2654 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Jamie, great videos. What settings do you use to get your flash to fire so quickly when photo stacking? I have OM1 with Olympus flash unit but I cant get the flash to fire faster than once every second which is way too slow for handheld focus stacking

    • @janvangastel6763
      @janvangastel6763 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it's not the camera but the flash that causes this problem. I also have the OM-1. I have a Godox V350 flash which works about the same as the one in this video. Before I used the Godox TT350 which was slower and made much less flashes after each other before recharging then the V350. I use the flash mostly at 1/32. The V350 has a more powerfull battery.

    • @JamieSpensley

    Hey Jamie, have you thought about doing an entomology degree? You seem to have great ID skills for a young man. You have a steady hand and good eyes for spotting. Are you using 1/32 flash intensity on manual mode for bracketing?

    • @JamieSpensley
      @JamieSpensley  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't thought about an entomology degree. I quite like the mystery of not knowing some subjects. Makes things exciting when I'm going out to take photos. I set my flash to manual at all times and usually set it between 1/16 and 1/64 depending on my camera settings and other factors.
