  • Let's leave Medina and head out into the unwknown. We hop into our car and travel the endless miles into the desert.
    There are many interesting spots on the way - a never finished 100 years old railways line comes to mind. And we will visit it, don't worry, but the main destination of our today'S journey lies much further.
    We are heading into the city of Al-Ula where we visit probably the main tourist attraction in Saudi Arabia (if there were any real tourists to speak of) - the Hegra Archeological Zone.
    Many people compare it to Petra in Jordan and don't get me wrong, there are some similaritites, but there is something different here.
    Different how? Let's find out and on the way let me share with you all of the useful info you may need in order to visit (including price, location, general logistics and so on).
    And stick to the end of the video to see what kind of accomodation you can get there. It will blow your mind :)

    Let me know what you think :)

      The railway was from Istanbul to Madinah. It was operational and got destroyed during WW1 around 1915

    Petra is a Nabataean civilization, but Al-Ula has successive civilizations such as the Mustaqtal civilization, the Thamud civilization, the Dadan civilization, the Lihyan civilization, and the Nabataeans civilization.
    There are a lot of interesting places in Al-Ula that you haven't visited.

    • @LexUniverse
      @LexUniverse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you for visiting :)
      can you give me some tips maybe? :) that place really charmed me and I would like to know what more to see there :)

      @@LexUniverse There are many mountain wonders such as the Elephant Mountain, the Ship Mountain, Al-Wajh Mountain, and Al-Jarrah Mountain
      Civilized: Al-Mustalla civilization, the Kingdom of Dadan, the Kingdom of Lihyan, Madain Saleh, the ancient village (the labyrinth)
      City landmarks: Maraya Theater, Musa Bin Naseer Fort, HARRAT VIEWPOINT, Hijaz Railway, Sharaan Reserve for watching wild animals
      Enter the Discover Al-Ula website, you will find many international sports and cultural events
      A movie about the Dadan civilization will be produced in National Graphic after a few days, and watch the movie Almustatil Civilization (I think its title is The Architects of the Arabian Peninsula)
      Al-Ula is not only civilizations, but also cultures, poetry and literature. It is home to some of the most famous ancient Arab love stories, such as the story of the poet Jamil and his beloved Buthaina, and the story of the poet Katheer and his beloved Azza.
      It is famous for its fruit festivals such as the dates festival, the citrus festival, etc..
      Al-Ula is rich in rock drawings and writings, so it is an open museum to discover the stories of ancient civilizations in the various kingdoms of the Arabs. I think there is an important Islamic inscription documenting the death of Caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab as well, who is the second caliph after the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace.

    It seems quite interesting as a destination, tbh. The only hugest downside is the very expensive visa of more than 100€ for EU citizens. In around 2 months time, there will be low-cost flights from Bulgaria to Riyadh i.e. you pay a low price to fly but an expensive price to enter the country. In UAE no visa is required for almost a decade now and same applies for Jordan where you get quite cheap flights to Aqaba in winter with Ryanair. I hope KSA considers visa free access in the future.

    • @LexUniverse
      @LexUniverse  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's true. They have actually already introduced (or will in the coming weeks) 4 day visa-free access if you transfer via Saudi Arabia by Flynas or Saudia, so it looks it is moving in the right direction...
      The Wizzair flights from Vienna were almost empty and they must see the lack of tourists now :)

    • @kosmicheskiprah
      @kosmicheskiprah ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LexUniverse If Vienna was empty then I imagine Sofia will be ghost.....yeah, flynas do operate from Prague, which seems like a good solution (you are richer and more developed lol). Will be looking forward to your videos. Oh my God, that apartment was so "small" 🤣🤣

    • @LexUniverse
      @LexUniverse  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kosmicheskiprah well I flew with Wizzair from Vienna, because it was so much cheaper and I have thing for places where no-one comes :D I can imagine Flynas would be more expensive, although I flew with them only within Saudi Arabia...
      and to be hones, the apartment was only a bit larget than typical thing you can get in Saudi Arabia... it is actually cheaper than I thought... we had an appartment of 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room and a bathroom in Dammam for some 250 leva for 3 people for 3 nights... that's not bad... I think right now the biggest obstacle is really the visa... hopefully they will make it affordable soon :)

    • @kosmicheskiprah
      @kosmicheskiprah ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LexUniverse Ufff yeah, Wizzair is dirty cheap from Sofia as well, it might take sometime for the route to "mature" :P Flynas seems like a more not so ultra low-cost such as Wizzair.
      Whoa, you really got a super price for that apartment! :D Bravo!
      I read many articles that KSA is opening up quite a lot and wants to seriously compete with UAE and Qatar. Because the future of petroleum is getting limited and they need to find other sources such as technology, tourism, IT, etc. You can also see that some Arab countries began to normalise their relations with Israel for the same reason. Would be interesting to see how KSA develops. I always thought it is a curious country and heard many good things about Jeddah - their "maritime capital".

    • @LexUniverse
      @LexUniverse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kosmicheskiprah to be honest, wizzair has a lot more comfortable flights that Flynas... but as you say, they open up to other people...
      let's see if they can get at least to the standard of FlyDubai... which is a lowcost airlines but still.... they have a different customer in mind...
