Having sat there when James did a fit for my son he’s exactly the same in person, incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. I learnt so much and wasn’t even having the bike fit myself 😂
As a tall person it'd be great to see (and learn from) a tall person getting a bike fit. Hearing a lot about people riding bikes that are too big, but what if it's the opposite where people can't even find bikes big enough?
Oh yes please. My 2m tall husband went to a bike fitter and the first thing he said was "you need a new bike". We have combed bike shops and brands but couldn't find a bigger and affordable frame so far. Now he is looking out for a custom frame
If you went in on a recumbent he'd tell you the saddle was too high. It's the same patter for every mark, err, I mean customer. Lower your saddle so much you need new cranks, bish bash bosh
Go for a vintage steelbike. I have a 1991 Rabeneick with 59 cm seattube and topttube with 175mm cranks. Fits like a glove, i think they were made up to 62 or 64 cm framesize.
A very interesting video! Also the recent one on Cade. Thanks for devoting the time to include us TH-cam viewers in your process. May I ask what camera and software system(s) you use for your motion capture? I am currently training to do fitting in the Pacific Northwest of the US. My pockets are not deep enough now (these tools are bloody expensive) but maybe later. I really appreciate how you use high-tech tools but rely more on the physical assessment and interviews to confirm the bike changes. I also appreciate how and what you ask the rider after changes. Thanks! Glad you are doing your own channel.
Kudos to whoever edits these videos. I had a bike fit "up north" 5 weeks and only yesterday finally happy with the video, I think the lesson learnt for anyone wanting to do the same and is more used to filming ride videos not to bother with multiple cameras - it quickly became an editing nightmare. Just use one good camera with audio mics would have done the job just the same and easier for all involved.
Good Video but the Camera Man reminded me of that Taaj Character from the " Come fly with Series", I could not stop seeing it. Jimmy from CADE is rockin this look too. Must be cool in the UK
Hahahahahahahahahahha. This might be the biggest burn I’ve ever gotten! Nice work! Sadly my baldness isn’t because I think it looks cool 😢 time comes for us all 😂
Oh the part about cramping really caught my attention, I cramp alot on my quads & calf, and always thought it was due to electrolyte alone.. sounds like i need to revisit my saddle height too
Love these videos, so informative. If you ever need a test dummy for a video with a bike that no doubt does not fit I’m you man. Mmmm do I really want you to tell me my eBay buy is not right 😂
Interesting about the single muscle group. I plan to get a bike fit when I can. However always get a sore LHS lower back/side. Put it down to need to do sit ups or similar!
where can you even get 155mm cranks? im in a similar boat, but i have trouble finding 160, let alone 155 (for a q factor my bike accepts, which is around 160. there are some great crank options for 140-150, like the la dixna otherwise)
Would love to see a video of someone tall and wide, or just wide, seeing how to solve for wide hips when q factors are so narrow in modern bikes, plus a wide saddle, wide feet, etc., seeing how to work around someone who can theoretically have X reach and position, but their gut is blocking the top of their stroke or their inner thighs rub the saddle and create sores.
Not really a topic on the video but I’m interested to know what James makes of these cleat plates that allow you to get the cleats even further back on the shoe.
Band aid solution to make a shoe that is wrong work, they also add stack to the cleat effectively thickening the sole which will negatively impact your pedalling dynamics
@ Thank you, James. I’m a college student who can’t afford to fly across sea and fit with you then buy a new Pinarello Grevil :( Learned a lot from ur videos though, make my bike a lot more comfortable.
Hello, James! Can you give me a tip why I am i feeling like i riding 15% grade on my turbo trainer witch dont natch a normal feel when riding outside? I know there is no inertia of mass of real riding but...
This is one reason why it might be better to get a custom insoles, they generally last longer. G8 insoles are already around 140 euros. At some places, you can heat-molded insoles between 90 and 200 euros and they can at least last two years. Obviously, like James has said before, the person must know how to make them. James probably does not have the time to make custom insoles for each bike fit so it makes sense to use G8. I have heard of that arch piece breaking for stronger riders.
@@ShadowzKiller Yeah I found only one place selling replacement arch pieces but most of the sizes are sold out. It's crazy if G8 makes you buy the whole package again just to get a pair of plastic arch pieces.
Mine sagged within a few months so I emailed G8 as I wanted them replaced. He told.me it didn't matter and they will still work the same (seriously) Makes no sense at all. He refused to acknowledge there was anything wrong with them. And being unable to buy replacements is just ridiculous
Fitting yourself is always harder than fitting someone else, since in some cases your initial feeling could contradict the logical fitting solution (learned it by myself since I'm a fitter too)😂
@@LukeMichaelJamesHow is your hip mobility ? I have the same saddle height and try to guesstimate if I could get away with 165 mm or if I should go straight to 160. Tough decision because I found an affordable power meter in 165, 160 gets you in another league of gear research.
Well usually my hip mobility is good, however more recently my left hip is less mobile. I’ve not had as much riding this past few months so it’s a bit tighter. We went to 155 in this fit, but you can get shimano and sram cranks s low as 160 now!
Anyone else addicted to these videos?
I bit yes
Ya

Duuuhhh! Of course😂
I love seeing the whole process. There are so many tidbits of info in them that help me learn about my fit and helping friends.
You had me cracking up there James, really like how self aware and self deprecating you are.
The lapel mics are a huge improvement!!!
This bike fit video brought to you by Sir Mix-a-Lot. 😏🙃 Fine work as always, James.

I'd watch a video of James getting a bike fit especially if it has tips for those of us who have long torso and short legs!

Any chance of a bike fit guide video for static trainers?
For example, Wattbike atom/ Neo Bike etc?
Great content. Thanks 🙏

Feels like an exam, having seen James a couple of times yes I can agree with that and you haven't done your homework.

after the show you went too (roleur?) do you think it is worth getting a rocking setup for your stationary bike to simulate real world biking?
I think it’s worth doing real world riding

Hi James, a quick question: if have to tolerate either an excessive reach or a very low stack, which is better? Thank you!
I’d always go for a bike that was “too low” rather than a bike that was too long but why!? Just buy a bike that fits you!

The web store for Bicycle Richmond has the G8 arches for £12 for a pair and you can select different sizes per foot.

The berk saddle looks nose up in the end?
It may have been before we actually changed it. Honestly I can’t remember but they do looks nose up a little bit just due to the shape

Question about the bike James, how is that yellow colour in real life (as opposed to seeing it online) ?
It’s yellow with a yellowish hue of yellow
It’s definitely full on, but it’s more of a cool colour than it is a ‘nice’ colour if you get me. A bit Lamborghini esque
