You talk formulas and notice details no one else seems to mention…. my eyeshadow obsessed self incredibly happy…:)
I use statuesque SO often with my motherships, crazy thing is most palettes always have a mid tone brown but Pat seems to lean rosy/plum rather than brown, I know plums are really flattering on deeper skin maybe that the reasoning, mid tone browns probably just don’t show up well on all skin tones.

I have been wanting this but decided to hold off until the next 30% sale…and I think I will get Subliminal at the same time, because I had been thinking that it would pair so beautifully with Moonlit Seduction. So YAY, I am excited for your upcoming mashups with Mothership X!!!
Same here, I want it but am making myself wait for the next sale…she has such frequent sales so hopefully it won’t be too long. She had bundles last sale where you could pick any 2 motherships and I’m pretty sure it was an even better saving than 25-30% ….
This is definitely one that I think is better to get on sale…no reason to run.

I was holding out hope that these special shades would perform exactly as the baked shades do, so I'm sad to hear about the textural differences. I still like the colour story, but knowing that the special shades don't behave like true blitz/vr/astral formulas is disappointing.
Also, I really hope it doesn't become the norm for Mothership palettes to not include baked shades! #SaveTheBakedShades !!

Love both looks! I agree and hope she brings the baked shades back. They are why I continue to purchase her palettes! When u brought in Statuesque in place of the plum it made the palette look so much more cohesive! I have Statuesque and love using that matte! It's the perfect crease shade and blending shade! Thank you for your video! So Informative!
Right!! Statuesque makes soooo much more sense here. Or even a deeper version of it so more skin tones can wear it but for sure a shade of brown.

I never use the matte burgundy, plum, maroon ish eyeshadows. Looks like a bruise on me. NC 30. Great informative video as usual. I was waiting for your review.

I was a bit let down by Alicia's video this time. As much as she would hate to admit it, getting the sponsorship influenced the content...I felt like I was watching a commercial. Good for her, but I didn't get the info I was looking for.

I completely agree. I can’t get the rosewood and the plum to create very different looks. I’m surprised how quickly I have needed to use extra palettes to get the variety I want, that’s why I think this palette will be good for pairing!
Agreed, this will be a pairing palette. These mattes are far too constricting. I don’t always want the Modern Renaissance look 🤣
that plum shade - which is visible around 25:32 and on is a base of that duochrome and it sort of extends it into the wing

Wauw, your introduction about the color scheme... you literally said everything that was on my mind!! I completely agree!
Going from the name, moonlit seduction, which is a great theme, it made me think of silver, grey, taupe, lilac/ lavender, cool dark purple, dark blue.. and indeed, a light cool brown like statusque in there would have been per-fect! These cool tones would have been ideal and cohesive, since that is basically what the palette's name suggests.
I am disappointed in the palette, because though it is cooler in its tones, it still pulls quite warm. The matte shades just feel to similar to previous releases - they may be different hues from previous palettes, but honestly, how different will it look on the lid?
I know and understand that atleast one warm shade is "necessary" in the palette - looking from a consumers perspective. Warm shades appeal to the masses and of course a brand needs to make its sales. But still, I wonder, what was the thought process behind the color story? I don't think there was a critical stance from Pat McGrath themselves or the will to take a risk with a more cool toned, plum-less palette. Probably because since the brand is famous with influencers and on social media, most people would gush over any colorstory. (And that's mostly exactly what happened indeed).
I feel like motherships palettes have become a cash grab. There are variations of certain tones of mattes and metallics in every palette (the first six shades). Of course the gold too. Present in every palette, just slightly different.
Only the special eyeshadows are different in each palette. Which makes the consumer want the palette... even though not a lot of effort went into making the palette truly different from its predecessor.
A lot of babbling from me too haha. Anyway, as always Mariam, a video that is very articulately and intelligently laid down - yet understandable for the laymen.
You are very knowleadgable - I love how you pointed out the change of formula in the 'special' shades and the fact that if they aren't baked, there's probably more binder in there, leading to a denser formula. Loved your 'ramble' on the topic, found it very educational! I feel its vital info for us consumers, since all of this info (about the changed formula in the blitz shades too and its texture), makes me think that Pat is trying to cut down costs on palettes, whilst retaining the price and the suggestion that everything is the same.
The comparisons to the indie eyeshadows and the other PML palettes were also very very helpful! It really showed that you are a clear fan of PML.
Last thing, (I promise lol), what I also loved, is how critical (yet fair) you are of PML, but also of the criticizers. You bring forth great arguments... truly, your videos on Pat Mcgrath are probably the best out there.

You must be a real lover of cool tones...I don't find this palette warm at all HAHA, besides the mattes.
I am still gathering all of my thoughts on this palette...but I don't find myself as inspired by it as I usually am by Motherships.
To be honest, I thought the change in formula was indeed linked to costs. Prices have gone up worldwide and she "only" increased by 3$ which is insignificant. If the baked shades would drive up the cost too much, she would lose customers. So, as a compromise, they made the closest thing in a pressed form and hoped we would let it slide. Honestly, besides me and some of you, noone else seemed to care....so it worked.
I can see both sides. The pitchforks are out for Pat too fast and too unjustly sometimes, but I can also remain critical...because I am a paying customer.

Your review did actually make me realize it is indeed quite cool - what I gathered from other reviews, was that it is still warm. But now I do feel differently!
@@RoseOfMadina Oh I am surprised anyone would describe it as warm. And if in doubt, just swatch the shades next to ones that are truly warm-toned. Like I did with the golds.
I'm with you 100%, especially with the expectations of the color story based on the name. I'm also a cool tone lover and am completely over plums, pinks, terracotta, etc. It's like no matter how much they try to cool the darker burgundy or plum shades down they end up pulling warmer on my pale skin and most every darker pinky plummy matte makes my eyes look legitimately sick and even bruised. Even downright odd and clashy with my rusty red hair lol. Can't really justify paying that price for a palette that I would have to supplement with something else matte wise for a wearable look. I'm also super disappointed about the vr sextacy shade having a red plum base and looking very similar to a ton of other options such as UD Solstice. I'm just bummed because it could have been way better without the two super similar repetitive pinky plum burgundy shades, and change sextacy to maybe a purple, teal silvery shift.

Thank you for your very honest review! I picked up the palette only because I am a collector of the Motherships. Unfortunately I don't like cool tones on me so I haven't even swatched it yet.
I think a lot these are quite neutral in tone so you might enjoy it.

I said the SAME thing about Statuesque to my husband the other day haha. He got a whole rant from me about it. One of the rosier shades should totally have been a neutral-cool brown. I love Plum Cabaret, but it does make it super limiting as a single palette.

Maybe Pat was inspired by red moon, when she decided to includ 2 rosy-plummy mattes into the palette. I get your frustration about the mattes. I agree with you that statuesque would be a much better fit instead! I still haven't decided if I I'm going to buy this palette or not. I'm waiting for an opportunity to swatch it in Sephora. I'm bummed that special shades are not in her baked formula. I love the theme of the palette though. No wonder Midnight Sun is my favorite mothership :)

I haven’t thought about it before but you made an excellent point about people thinking of the Pats palettes to be very pink because of the plum mattes she tends to add to all of them. That’s totally me! I don’t always feel like wearing plum/rose…Statuesque would be an amazing add on! I’d also like to see a matte navy in that place

I’ve been waiting for your review and a great discussion of the formulas - excellent as always! I agree with you about the mattes making all so many of the palettes feel rosey/pink/plum when the majority of shades may not have any pink or purple. And too bad about the formula changes. I have fallen in love with the Astral formula and those are the only two shades in this palette that interest me. We’ll maybe that neutral bronze too. 😊 this is a palette for a discount moment only I think.
This is for sure a palette that is better purchased on sale. Especially if the baked shades are your usual preference.

Welcome back from your holiday - you really did a good job when it comes to comparison swatches! 👌🏼 From the first view of this palette, my thoughts have been that it is beautiful but does not feel like something special. And plums - we have so many already in other palettes, but then we have to remember that not everyone are collectors. I had looked soooo much forward to this one but so far I think I'm only gonna get it when it goes on sale for collection purposes, I have been shocked to find out that this year so far, I have NOT purchased 1 single thing from PMG, and compared to last year, not 1 month went by without shopping on her website 🫣

I checked online on moonlight color story and the plum does fit. You should try the Bridgerton 1 with the VR. Also I tried it spritzing with di plus and it was smoother

Now if only that Astral from Bridgerton 2 was slightly more cooler toned...the only shades that truly interest me from Moonlit Seduction are the bottom two at the end. If the VR shade was more of a purple to teal shift, rather than a red toned base, I might be more interested. Looking forward to your week of looks.

Unfortunately I don’t have it, I decluttered it. From memory, the formulas are of course completely different so there is much more sparkle and dimension in Moonlit shade, a bit more green sparkle too.

Yes I would recommend that indeed! There’s no rush here…plus Christmas collection is coming soon. Maybe worth holding out to see if anything better is on the way.
We left them at home with daily care from family and friends, plus a camera so we can spy on them remotely. I was very worried in the beginning and missed them terribly but thank goodness they were ok and so happy to have us back.

Thanks for your review and demonstration of this palette. I wish it included a matte neutral brown in this palette. I’m on the fence with this palette. I’m leaning on purchasing the Midnight Sun. I have Divine Rose 2, most likely going to skip this new palette.
I honestly think MS is a better palette but it depends on what color story fits your life better.

Interesting about the huge price increase in the Netherlands, I had a quick look at the UK side, and it's even gone down a bit, from 120 pounds fullprice for previous pallettes to 115 for this one (and 3 single eyeshadows as gift to the purchase, including Statuesque😃) anyway this colorstory is not tempting me so far, thank you very much for the great review.

I live in Greece 🇬🇷 and only recently sephora brought PATMAGRATH I've bought the bronze seduction and the site has as well (with other motherships) the quad blitz astral ritualistic rose.Im thinking of picking it up because I don't want a big palette again but the special shades.Do you have any opinion to g8ve me about it? PM makes her motherships very difficult to remove and replace pans with something from a single or from another mothership. Whereas ND makes popping out shades very easy, and IMO this encourages artistry and em tailoring her shades to suit you.
I think she envisages the motherships this way and wants us to experience them as a colour story of textures, that's why they will never have removable pans. I don't really mind.
I just want that VR sextascy shade. Omg!
I think plenty of indies will have and in a similar formula too so look around for dupes.

Im not a huge fan of the chunky monkey eyeshadows to be honest. I prefer the more diffused sparkles and dryer formula. Thanks for the comprehensive review and comparisons to existing shades. :)

I really appreciate this pallet as first time buyer pat but to be legit no my favorite one and yes the plum one looks like it could have been a different color than plum or brown or if she wanted a cherry pallet or something like that then ok with amazing shimmers next level with blackshadow .

I don’t think PM wants too much criticism. Frankly the expectation for the most costly makeup on the market, ought to be no primer or fuss necessary 🤷🏼♀️
I’m not sure I agree with the no primer statement to be honest. Eyeshadow doesn’t really contain anti-creasing ingredients and some of us have oily lids which eat everything up. As a representative of that group, I never mind using a primer.
As far as criticism, I don’t know how much of it actually reaches Pat herself.

Nooit mooi glad maar altijd een soort van texture (kan niet op een Nederlands woord komen) die ervoor zorgt dat alle plooitjes zichtbaar zijn. Best jammer eigenlijk.
Jaaa dat bedoel ik dus. De “nieuwe” blitz/astral formule is niet echt forgiving als je oogleden wat plooien hebben of je huid wat droger is. Echt heel jammer want haar baked formule daarentegen heel geschikt is voor alle huidtypes.
