    In their last Kickstarter update, Roxley announced 2 new game modes, boss vs boss and boss vs heroes mode. Kinda like what you asked for quick games :)

    Brilliant job Rahdo, great honest thoughts.
    I love the base game of dice throne, despite my wife and I usually preferring coop, I found that we can enjoy competitive games if they are short. Them adding coop is an easy pickup for me.
    The concern of not having that big battle at the end of each session is a bit of a downer, a bit build up to a fizzle isn't ideal, bit still in willing to roll the dice and pick this one up. Roxleys production values are amazing certainly makes it easier to talk myself into it

    Great final thoughts, although at least for me, that crawl and level up portion is the stuff I like the most, so I won’t mind at all not fighting a boss each time :)

    Really excited about this game. My hubby and I usually don't go for dueling games but this is so fun and beautiful to play. Looking forward to the adventure and seeing all the bosses while trying with different characters to win. Excellent coverage of the game and review. Keep 'em coming Rahdo!

    It sounds like you want a hybrid of Aeon's End and Dice Throne...which actually sounds amazing!

      um, yeah it does! :)
      the devs for DT mentioned after they saw the video that they like the idea of a 'boss only' variant, so fingers crossed it might make it into the final game :)

      rahdo It was already mentioned in another comment, but there was an announcement in the last update in the campaign that introduced Boss vs Boss mode and Boss vs multiple characters mode.

    My wife and I dislike direct combat style games but had a good time with Dice Throne; if you view it similar to something like Ascension, where it’s essentially a race to a set amount of points it doesn’t feel quite so aggressive.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that is a fair way to look at it, but then the act of defense becomes a sort of aggressive move. that is, you might say "YES! i've finally pulled off the dice combo I've been trying for half the game!", to which Ireply "to defend myself, I'm rolling my dice, and oh, i've just cut your damage in half", which means i've really taken the wind out of your sails :)

    I'm curious how well or different this plays with more players. I would only play it as a 2 player and I can't tell if it would be as exciting or not.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well, there is a 4p runthrough of it on the kickstarter page, which includes one of the designers. TBH, I don't think it would make much difference, and if anything, it would be better with 2 than with 4, as there's less downtime between turns, while still allowing for teamwork stuff to happen :)

      @@rahdo Yesssss that's what I wanted to know. I still feel just a concerned about the things you said in the video about the end boss, but this helps. As always thank you for being so thorough!

    To solve the boss problem you mentioned you could make this house role
    If you fight the boss and he lost half of his hp or more you only lose 10 gold
    If he is nearly dead (last 10 hp or less) you don’t lose gold at all

    • @kosterix123
      @kosterix123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anyone can house rule anything. I’d say if you roll a 3 of a kind you can escape. No gold loss, live to fight another day.

    I haven't played Dice Throne. I initially backed this because I like co-op dungeon crawls, but I think I'll withdraw my pledge because the Yatzhee mechanic doesn't really interest me, and I really don't like grinding in pc/video games, so I doubt I'd enjoy it in a board game. Great production values though! Painted minis look great!

      I would like grinding in any game but I too have a problem with the Yahtzee thing.

    The mention of yahtzee used to put me off, but now this game made me realise that Yahtzee mechanics can be used in a relatively complex game

    Unfortunately, this game (either competitive or coop) seems not for me at all, seems like I would never get any fun of it and that feeling makes me sad, because the game itself looks gorgeous, the art, the components, the publisher is one of the best out there... I wish the best for them, maybe one day I'll try this and fall in love, who knows :)

    Doesnt it get boring/repetitive after a few plays? It sounds like it....

      there's a huge dt fanbase out there, so i guess not :)

    Just extremely slow game with huge downtime between players turns without any engagement. As much as I love seasons 1 and 2, just as much I disenchanted with the Adventure.

    Dice Throne failed hard for us as a dueling game. Star Wars Destiny and Ashes RotP are much better dice card hybrid games. I do have to admit I am intrigued by this co-op version, but I am not sure the appeal of co-op overwrites the problems with the underlying system I had.

    • @Fighterfan69
      @Fighterfan69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously a matter of personal taste. It may not be for everyone but something about this just grabbed us more than the game you've mentioned. You can see it's the same game mechanic so if it didn't grab you, I'm not sure it will 'overwrite' the problems you had before.
      At any rate, despite the many mistakes the game looks good and if you like DT, you should get this.

      @@Fighterfan69 Idk I feel like I could point out some very objectively wonky things in DT that I don't like. If you like it tho, great.

      @Joseph Menchey be honest, have you actually played the other two games? Or defending your Kickstarter choices?
