Disturbe is one of those bands that got my attention when they came out, great pick.
This song still hits me like a ton of bricks. It was released less than a year before I was diagnosed with cancer at 28 years old. Music has always been an influential part of my life and when that diagnosis came, I developed a bit of an obsession with this song. As I was going through the treatment process, the lint, “Don’t let hope become a memory,” almost turned into my life’s mantra and it’s still a quote I live by to this day, 2 and a half years after I won the toughest battle of my life.

Hi Rich & Kel!! I'm so happy you did some more Disturbed! "The Light" is off their 2015 album, "Immortalized"- great album with songs like "The Vengeful One" (cool video too). Their new album, "Evolution", is fantastic! I am still in the hospital, being treated for serious blood infections, one of which ended in losing my lower left leg & foot. I've been through "Health Hell" the last 4 years, but I trying to stay strong. "The Light" has also helped me through a lot as well- such a powerful, inspiring song!. I deal with chronic pain...24-7-365. Peripheral neuropathy, bone on bone in my left knee, and rare genetic blood disease that can only be controlled, not cured, nerve damage in my left leg from the 9 operations that is so severe that I barely feel anything in my left leg....and on and on. I keep my head up and try to keep myself occupied with my artwork...and with my cooking. It's my favorite thing to do besides painting. It distracts me from the pain that I deal with all the time.
You two really make my day!!!

Since I saw your comment, I wanted to send a personal message directly, instead of having it get lost in the ether of TH-cam comment sections.
Firstly, tell your father thank you for his service. That's the paramount takeaway here. Although it wasn't for me directly (I'm only 23), his service, and that of hundreds of thousands of others, enabled this day and age, and the gratitude I have for the veterans can never be fully expressed. If it ever is, I've only misjudged my own self.
In the age of self-aggrandizement in public, and depression and undervaluing of self in private, this song is truly a treasure that is being missed by so many.
Thank you for the suggestion because I was able to re-locate the light in my life, and I have become more motivated to pursue my life's work than I ever have been.

As far as the song, I am glad this song has had such a positive effect. Music is supposed to touch the soul and this song does that and more. It was the song I listened to when I hit my lowest of lows. It just always makes me feel good and positive about life.

The message in this song is so true! I went through a lot of different kinds of abuse growing up and I told people for years. My boyfriend at the time even called the cops and no one would believe me or him. I was on the verge of suicide when one day I heard a song from Aerosmith Janie's Got A Gun and it gave me the courage to take things into my own hands. No, I didn't shoot anyone but I packed up a backpack full of clothing and left home, never looking back. It's sad when a 16-year-old feels safer living on the streets than at home. I spent 3 yrs on the street until a stranger helped me get on my feet. That stranger ended up becoming the love of my life, my husband and we have been married for almost 30yrs now. He was and still is my light in the darkness.

We lost my dad in 2021, but this video reminds me of when he was a live and well and brings me a smile. I needed a little pick me up. Anyway, I hope all is well with you. Happy Chanukah. Oh, I also watched the video recently I sent you when Rich recorded the vocals for Soen - Lotus and then I recorded my guitar playing with it. that was fun. 🙂

#otherwise Soldiers Lax Kw'alaams, BC, Canada I find this song not only goes for vets but for the everyday person. The band said when they made the song, we are all soldiers in our fields. Fire fighters, Nurses, Mechanics, house keepers, we all are soldiers in life.

I wish this song was around 6 years ago. We lost our precious 20 year old son who had high functioning autism to suicide. I cant listen to this song without getting very emotional. What a great message!!!

I was plagued with severe pain as a teenager and after attending physical therapy and exercise the pain in my back warrented strong medication that the doctor prescribed and because of tolerance my doses had to be increased. During the 20 years and two back operations i found myself reaching very low emotions. 1980 i bought Black Sabbaths first cassette and ive been a metalhead since. During my lowest point metal saved me. Not just the metal i knew but i had to be around for the music left to be added

Other than hearing their version of Sounds of Silence I've not heard much Disturbed, it's a pretty good song.
I have a suggestion not related to Disturbed, it's for a fairly new band from Mexico called The Warning. It's three sisters, guitar/vocals, bass and drums. They grew up playing Rock Band and they wanted to learn to actually play, their father taught them and has guided them to a career in rock music. They have 2 albums and an EP. Their first full album is called XXI Century Blood and the title song is very good.
