My grandparents lived right around the corner from the Skyline Club and my dad would talk about the crash almost every time we went to visit.
My Father loved him and Marty Robbins ,I can remember listening to these old songs back in the early 70s ,this song reminds me of Him every time I hear this song ,what a time it must have been to hear songs like this for the very first time they sure dont write songs today like these
This is the only old school country song I recall singing in unison with my grandma as she took me to school. I didn’t fully appreciate hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Marty Robins.. etc. Until i hit my early 20s.
I grew up listening to these "story songs" with my father. I miss him dearly, but his memories live through me as long as I sing them in my heart. Thank you, Dad, for raising me on good music.
I, too, grew up listening to these songs with my father. They bring back memories of him as we sit in the living room together. Only him and I, as we talk about life.
Well I'm 70 and I remember him along with many others from the 60s and some from 50s. With no TV the radio was main source music: As an ex submariner my grandfather into "Sink the Bismarck".
You’re wrong I’m 24 and listen to a lot of old music so that they stay alive. Plus it’s better than any of the garbage they have now songs back then had actual meaning to them not like the ones today.

What an amazing voice! Growing up with my brothers born In the 40's and 50's.. I was so fortunate enough to grow up hearing the music back then. This was one of their favorites as well as mine!
I went to the drive-in movie with my parents when I was about 5 years old and saw this movie and fell in love with the song. It never fails to make me cry. Went to Alaska several years ago and I think it is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.
My dad used to take Johnny Horton and Tennessee Ernie Ford bass fishing. Still have an album autographed by Johnny Horton. We used to play it over and over.
Johnny will forever be one of my favorite singers, and I was born sixty something years after this song came out, and it’s still a legendary song. I forever will have a song play when I am turning on the radio.

I have all of Johnny Horton’s music including some vinyl records, it brings back memories of my grandparents. I miss those days! ❤️

My Father loved him and Marty Robbins ,I can remember listening to these old songs back in the early 70s ,this song reminds me of Him every time I hear this song ,what a time it must have been to hear songs like this for the very first time they sure dont write songs today like these
Love this song. Beautiful lyrics. The old values.
I'm 47. I was raised on johnny Horton. Not many people left who know him
Well I'm 70 and I remember him along with many others from the 60s and some from 50s. With no TV the radio was main source music: As an ex submariner my grandfather into "Sink the Bismarck".
I am 61. Was brought up hearing Johnny Horton etc
You’re wrong I’m 24 and listen to a lot of old music so that they stay alive. Plus it’s better than any of the garbage they have now songs back then had actual meaning to them not like the ones today.
I remember Johnny used to listen to him in the 50s and sixties
As long as I live he'll never be left. 40 by the way.
I'm 35 and have been listening to Johnny Horton since I was a young child and still love his music. Btw I'm australian
I am also an Aussie
Love Johnny Horton's songs.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie
G'day Aussie Girl, I'm an Aussie to, and single and love all the old country singers and songs, i was brought up with them, and i think if i could find a woman who likes the same music as me, she would be my soul mate. RIP Johnny Horton and all the other great proper country music artists we've lost, your music will live on forever.
I really love Johnny Hortons music, and this is a good song by him, as well.
I am 35. I have been listening to Johhny Horton since I was little. Now my kids love the older music such as Johnny Horton. He is my 18 year old's favorite artist!
I grew up listening to this on my dads radio in his old truck. I miss those days. Love you Dad. 🤠
I'm 40 years old and grew up listening to Horton with my dad. Memories
One of the greatest artists who ever graced the Earth.

I'm 60 and I do love music such as this and I listen to a 1940s radio station from the UK but I don't take away from today's music there are some gems still being recorded I'm a fan of all music created over the past 100 years and I have my grandfather to thank for turning me onto music from the 20s-40s and my dad from the 50s-60s from the 70s to date myself .
My dad played Johnny horton all the time!! I love the music now!! RIP mr. Horton & dad too❤
What an amazing voice!
Your comment made me smile😊. I'm from Alaska, native American. Thank you for saying how beautiful Alaska is.
Thanks grandpa for showing me real music 🙏🏼❤️ love you so much
My dad used to take Johnny Horton and Tennessee Ernie Ford bass fishing.
Still have an album autographed by Johnny Horton.
We used to play it over and over.
I just turned 50. And this is one of my favorite songs. I grew up listening to these songs and they are legendary.
I used to listen and watch the Johnnys with mom and dad. Johnny Cash, Johnny Horton, and John Wayne. ❤
This song is legendary, along with many other songs Johnny produced in his prime. Unfortunately the good die young
I cannot listen to this song, in particular the third verse, without sobbing. George misses Genny...he ❤ loves her dearly. Love means more than gold.😢
I’m 1,467 years old and waited almost my whole life to hear this music, and haven’t heard anything as good since.
I was a young child of 130 when you were born!
aaahhhhh hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'll just keep my age to myself. I'd say I'm around 3,000 yrs old give or take a few..☺️🪕🎻🎸🥁
Johnny Horton never really got his just due as a singer, but he was great, and his music will last forever in the hearts of countless fans to come.
Johnny will forever be one of my favorite singers, and I was born sixty something years after this song came out, and it’s still a legendary song. I forever will have a song play when I am turning on the radio.
I'm 52...and listen to this when I was like 4...and still makes me smile while I sing! 🇨🇦

Watched the film in 1961 with some school friends on our last day at school. Have loved this song ever since.
First heard this song in 1977 in high school. Now I'm over 60 and brings back good memories.
I'm older than the Internet and grew up with this music, listening to my dad's cassettes labelled "mix" and "diverse" . Pure gold!
I have the records ,reel to reel tape and 8 track tapes!
This album was definitely among the stack of records that mom put on the record player on Saturday mornings. Especially if dad had the day off.
That line "With the northern lights a-runnin' wild in the land of the Midnight Sun" gives me chills every time
That's some serious poetry ain't it?
A whole movie plays through my head with that line… and when it it ends with “ The Year Was 1901” GOOSEBUMPS !
Sam McCord was a mighty man in the year 19 1
