The name of the channel is awesome
I think if someone doesn't know anything about TMNT(rare I know), IDW is the best place to start. If you love the original movies and cartoon, Mirage is the way to go. The origin story, Raph meeting Casey, farmhouse, etc. are all taken from Mirage.
@totterymanx I definitely think either option is good. With IDW you get a brand new story and with Mirage you get that nostalgia. The Raph one shot with Casey's first appearance is one of my favorite comics ever.
@@noyougrowup69 True. You can't really go wrong. I was just thinking IDW is still on going so you feel like a part of something happening now, but both can work.

So many thoughts on the comics! First thank you for making this. As you mentioned everyone probably knows TMNT but maybe not the comic versions. I have some knowledge to share on this. Hopefully, it adds to what you have here.
- TMNT Vol. 2 - 13 issue run. Was/is suppose to be a continuation of Vol 1. In the early 90s, they felt they needed to move to color books. This may be due to the Archie series that was being published in full color since 88. So the decision made was to end vol. 1 and continue the story in a completely color run. This was Vol. 2 and it only lasted 13 issues.
- Archie run - There are 2 volumes. vol. 1 is a three-run mini-series that introduces characters from the cartoon (of the time) to the comic world. This includes Bebop, Rocksteady, Krang, and the colored eye bandanas. Vol 2 is a continuation of this but is very very difficult to get every issue of due to super low print runs of the final 20+ issues. (This is common with Archie books.) The upside is The Archie books are somewhat stand-alone so you can get a full story from a single issue of with just a few issues together.
- Tales of TMNT - you are correct. Contains the first appearance of Rat King and Leather Head
- IDW's TMNT - This is the longest-running series of the Turtles ever. At the time of writing this, they are about to publish issue 150. No TMNT book, show, story, etc. has ever made it that far. Due to the length of this run, I would encourage picking up collected volumes. there are so many things that have happened that one of these volumes would be the best way to an introduction to the current turtles.

Never knew the Archie run had the mini series that was the first volume, definitely my least knowledgeable area of the comics.

@nostalgic_nick1461 I hope Hasbro does another wave of figs from volume 2 and gives them more accurate heads. I really love their designs in that mini series.
@@noyougrowup69 9/10 they will with the dimension x rangers. I hope they do the mutated rangers as well.
Lots of great recommendations here. I’ve read most of Mirage, Image, and Archie. But I only read the first 12 issues of IDW back when they were first published. I hopped back on IDW with the “TMNT Reborn” trades which start at issue 101. I’ll eventually go back and read the rest of IDW.
Also - for anyone who is a fan of the 87 cartoon, I can not recommend Saturday Morning Adventures TMNT enough. It is a 4 issue miniseries that feels like it’s pulled right out of the cartoon. It’s wonderful
@joshmv right after I got done editing I was like man I should have included the Satruday Morning Adventures. Volume 2 is coming soon. They are very fun books.

Body Count was always one of my favorites. That style of art and violence blew me away plus that American flag Casey Jones mask was iff the hook!!! 🤘
@stickypaintfingerz totally agree Simon Bisley's art is dope. I love Image Casey the one figure I would really like from NECA from that run is that American flag mask Casey.
Thanks for this content! I read some online through comixology. I went through the Archie series and loved it. Tried mirage series and enjoyed it, but I prefer the color comics. That being said, Raphael #1 is my favorite comic book.
@ross8859 that Raph #1 one of my favorite comics of all time! Digital is the one thing I didn't touch on because I'm not sure of what's out there for TMNT.
been a long time tmnt watcher just got into the comics and started with the idw and its great on v4 atm

the first 10- let's say 30? of the mirage comic are a classic. If you at least haven't read the first issue you got to.

You're recommending people to start at IDW 101?! The worst run of all the ones you mentioned?
I started the idw when it first came out but stop in vol 2 or 3. I want to read the last ronin but do I meet to read the other volumes 1st
@MAGICMANQ dude you can just hit the last ronin and come back to the main run they don’t connect or anything the ronin universe is kind of it’s own thing.
Unpopular opinion besides some issues i really cant get into the idw series im just not a fan of how the turtles look especially after the 2012 nick series came out they started making them look like that show and to me they look like shit in that show super anorexic looking. And after issue 100# it turns into tumbler deviantart furry fanfiction
@jackko21 honestly I don't think that's really even an unpopular opinion. It really is a pretty small part of the fandom that is into it and the sales numbers speak to that.
I'll never unthink the furry thing now haha.
