Nashville studio ace and everybody's favorite "Uncle Larry" goes through his five amps that give him the core tone templates for nearly most of his session work.

Give the people what they want - set up an in depth episode with Uncle Larry where he plays his whole cartage rig from top to bottom and he shows us some more cool sounds hes getting. Also pay him handsomely for the trouble.
When the Guitar Center opened up in 70's on C street, they only had massive Sunn amps like this. Also, Traynor was a big player with 100 watt heads. Stratorcasters were 250 to 400 d0llars American made with case.
I was at that store in SF also, in 71' I got a Traynor Custom Special with two four by ten inch cabs, I believe it was rated at 60 watts, it had a built in fan to cool and was heavy like a SVT head.
@@Johngonefishin Yep, I rented a 100 watt Traynor with 4 12's at Apex music downtown, this was the biggest ammo I had for years purchased a 500.00 Pv classic 50 watt amp which had a great sound on credit well, my mom bought is and I paid her monthly. My first two guitars I purchased form my first job was 1968 335 12 strings with 6 strings on it, and the pickup covers were removed and I got a very smooth Santana and Mclaughlin sound. The very first was Rickenbacker which I tore up because HEndrix and Cream were the bomb
I had a '68 Super Bass Plexi and a 67' Super Lead. I preferred the 68 Super Bass as well. (Although I was surprised to hear Tom reference the '68 Super Bass as EVH's Plexi. Eddie's was a '67/68 Super Lead. Both had lay-down mains transformers.
Uncle Larry rules good taste in amps
The Marshall Major is also a very clean amp. It stays clean to about 5, at the point, you are killing small animals. It is extremely loud. I bought mine in 1987 for $400 and it’s my favorite amp.

I have the same Bogner cabinet but with modern Celestion 65s. Best cabinet / speaker combo I ever played especially WHEN I can really turn it up, like for an outdoor gig. I wondered if it was great just with my Two Rock, but seems like it is golden with a whole slew of different amps.

Interesting! I may have to get me a 100 watts plexi! I have a jcm 2000 DSL 50 and it is a beautiful sounding amp! I had the 100 watts tsl but I much prefer the 50 watts version. I have no problem with headroom. I use a Clapton Strat. I know I saw Jeff Beck using the jcm 2000 50 watts version. I have used mine many times outdoors, unmic'd, no headroom issues. I guess it depends on your definition of "loud" is. I did watch several Andy Timms Mesa video demonstrations on various Mesa amps and he said he prefers the 100 watts settings "because of the tone." Thanks for the great insight! But now you've got me interested in getting a Marshall 100 watts Plexi and that is an expensive endeavor!

Ok , i agree with tom that marshall , vox and fender amps are the main "sounds " , but there's also brands like orange , laney ect , who really have there own sound .
Guys you need to hook up with Chris Spencer from Unsane, he's a noise/hardcore legend and they're touring the states right now!

Hi Tom, I am learning a lot on your videos and I think you are a great guitar player. I really think the Gretsch 6161 with a 12 inch speaker is the only amp I should try to purchase to play through but these are so expensive. I just play through a 1957 remake 2007 Strat and a Gibson 1969 j-160e for productions but I usually don't go through an amp but I'm gonna start. If you have any ideas then please let me know.
