Johann Baptist Strauss II (25 October 1825 - 3 June 1899), also known as Johann Strauss Jr., the Younger or the Son, was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas as well as a violinist. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Some of Johann Strauss's most famous works include "The Blue Danube", "Kaiser-Walzer" (Emperor Waltz), "Tales from the Vienna Woods", "Frühlingsstimmen", and the "Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka". Among his operettas, Die Fledermaus and Der Zigeunerbaron are the best known.
Strauss was the son of Johann Strauss I and his first wife Maria Anna Streim. Two younger brothers, Josef and Eduard Strauss, also became composers of light music, although they were never as well known as their brother.

What a perfect compilation to shake off the winter blahs. It has been overcast and alternating b/t rain, sleet and snow for the last 2 weeks here. My husband wasn't home so I picked our cat up and waltzed him around the fireplace room. He's now escounced on his cat tree on the balconey watching me with a wary eye. LOL
We're happy to know that our compilation raised your spirits! Horrible weather can't compete with the inherent joy and light of Strauss II's music. Also, imagining your cat's face as you waltzed him around the room genuinely made us laugh. Thank you and happy New Year! ✨

Here in Toronto the Toronto Symphony just had a tribute to Strauss called Sounds of Vienna. I love Strauss Sr and Jr but the tickets started at $235.00! I'm a poor senior and couldn't afford a ticket.
