The water dikkop (Burhinus vermiculatus) locates its nest close to the nest of the Nile crocodile for protection from other predators. However, Nile crocs are extremely territorial and being in such close proximity leads to some feather-raising situations.

Just imagine the tiny, bird-like dinosaurs doing this millions of years ago.

I am now picturing a small dromaeosaur or oviraptorid or something doing this with a Deinosuchus. I love it!

The literal translation of "dik kop" is thick head though the English name for these birds is Thick-knees.

Weirdly enough I only see them when they are nesting. The male is so aggressive, I've been hissed at and chased a couple of times whilst doing my morning run 🤣🤣 They have courage in bucket loads🙅🏽‍♂️

The bravest bird in the world is my Roster . He has 10 beautiful wifes . He is taken care of all of them so all of them are giving me an egg a day. Also, he is regenerating its kind every year when one or two of his lovely soul mates will brood about 20 chickens each. Also, he never forgets to wake me up in the morning. And this is not all.Isn’t this bird the best in the world ?

I can't help but think that the noisy robot croc is what keeps luring the lizards over to attack the croc nest, and then being filmed.
