    This guy is exactly the kind of actor you want for a big marvel character, sweet, humble, charming, funny, and you can tell he really cares about his character. I can't wait to see him doing interviews with other MCU actors (I want him in team-up movies!)

      @@ilsukdyang8134 I mean yes but also no? xD if I'm not mistaken he's a "first gen"? as in the first generation of an Asian family growing up in a foreign country. Which makes his parents full Asian right? xD as a "first gen" with a lot of "first gen" friends myself, I would claim that even though we grew up in a "foreign" country and attended a different style of education, growing up with full Asian parents makes you keep quite a lot of the Asian mentality xD Of course, there are exceptions but that's my general experience.

    • @ilsukdyang8134
      @ilsukdyang8134 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ledoi5961
      I'm a first gen as well, so it really depends on a number of factors. For instance, my parents came to the US when they were young (17 for my dad, 27 for my mom), so they were either at the tail end of adolescence or a young adult when they came to the States. This has most definitely had an impact on how "American" I am (very by the way, although I do have some very Asian tendencies). Also, most of my first gen friends were also "mostly American." Now another factor for my "Americanness" is that I pretty much went to school with races and ethnicities that weren't my own. Because of this, I became more American as a way to fit in. Many of the first gen Korean Americans I've known in my generation (older millenial, almost gen x) have had similar experiences. I mean it wasn't until middle school that I met another Asian at school that wasn't my brother. It wasn't until high school that I met another Korean at school that wasn't my brother. Pretty much all the first gen Korean Americans I knew growing up were from church, or were family (or family friends).
      So, all this just to say, it depends. In my experience, it's mostly immigrants from my generation that still have that highly "Asian" mentality, but it's different for everyone. I'd also imagine it depends on which country you grew up in. Anyways, just going off what I know about Simu, he seems to have had a very similar experience to me growing up (he's also an older millenial, just not quite as old as me)

      @@MrKinghuman my parents never had engineering degrees nor do they drive anything fancy. They work hard for what they have. I'm just saying that because of Shang-Chi, Asians, especially in Western countries, feel more represented. I've always loved Captain America and Iron Man. But having someone who looks like you and has the same background as you whose succeeding in a blockbuster movie is a game changer, especially to those kids growing up now. And the problems I'm referring to are family issues within asian families, where they are more strict and aren't open to supporting you, like what Simu has hinted at.

      You're missing the point of what I mean by "I can do anything". Albeit true that Asians dominate those job markets in society, it doesn't really do much in terms of inspiring young Asians. Asians mostly get in those fields because of their parents and norms within Asian households.

    It seems like a major talking point was establishing Simu Liu's "Chinese" status. People have been saying the role should have been given to a Chinese person. He *IS* Chinese. He was born in China and his parents were as well. I am going to give this movie my support. I don't think the people who complained would have seen the next Marvel movie regardless of who played in it.
