    What is it about the silence and the void that is so fascinating in these once bustling places? I can’t put my finger on it. Sometimes I walk through a busy mall or department store and imagine it empty. It’s like these videos look into the future.

    This mall is in good shape overall and the city of Cincinnati or whoever owns this mall needs to rezone the area if they cannot find tenants for those retail stores. This mall needs to be used for multi-use purposes such as office space, doctors offices, micro-loft apartments etc.

      cloudstrifeification I think that's a great idea instead of having mall for just for shopping purposes just have them all for a multi-purpose ball shouldn't be for just for shopping purposes now it could be for something else

    Wow, the design of this mall is great...the river / food court area....the neighborhood concept. all of the visual elements are really nice... I imagine the designers had a blast putting that together.

    This will be my childhood mall in a year. 4 anchor stores in 1988, Penny’s closed last year, BonTon and Sears are now closing leaving only Boscovs. Yeah, it’s dead now, it’s gonna be abandoned soon 😩. Hello from York, PA. Hometown of The Bon Ton, one of the biggest local employers.

    • @LethaWolf30
      @LethaWolf30 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michael Stanhope I think your confusing this mall with a different one. It hasn’t had Penney’s, Sears, or Boscov’s. This mall has/had Kohl’s, Babies R Us, and Bass Pro

    This mall was mostly dead in the late 80’s to early 90’s. It has nothing to do with online shopping because that had not begun when this mall was already in the dumper. The answer is something different than anti-social behavior or Internet shopping. The Time Out amusement center entertained my children, but the mall was mostly gone. A Biggs store was on one end. I thought this mall was gone the last time we drove to Jungle Jim’s.

    I think the suburban sprawl from the 90's did these malls in. The middle class moved with the sprawl, and so did the popular stores, leaving these malls empty and surrounded by the urban poor.

  • @patricksaxon3983
    @patricksaxon3983 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How sad, that it is almost empty and with all of the remodeling did not keep people inside to visit that mall. Malls are most expensive to rent retail stores and sometimes not well kept up in maintenance.

    My local mall is on the smaller side but after we lost Sears and a Sports Chek store every smaller store starting following. Theres 2 anchors but I think the only place that gets business is a food court because a high school is close by and its downtown. So sad seeing a busy mall from when I was a kid to a mall on life support.
    Edit: The mall you're in looks so nice. Such a shame it's just going to waste.

    The one and only reason for all this decline is from the internet, the internet has and will continue to erode the world as we have known it. The internet has provided some things for the better but far more for the worse. The internet and technology will eventually bring down mankind, we are eliminating the need for humans at at great neck speed. Humans were not meant to constantly adapt to change in the way we live every 2-3 years, it's ridiculous to think we need all this technology to live in this world.

    • @sam21462
      @sam21462 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tmm226 - I must admit, doing anything at "great neck speed" seems unwise.

    • @barnesjohn7657
      @barnesjohn7657 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But to me it’s no difference than a Walmart coming into town forcing the closure of the locally owned grocery store, shoe store, toy store where middle class people supported middle class manufacturers. It’s a time passed Americans were lucky enough to have but never really guarded or appreciated, like voting. It does matter but if it doesn’t matter to enough people it’s dead.
      Also, “we” including myself face reality with too little understanding too late. John McCain telling autoworkers your job is gone for almost all of you, start looking for other industries. Hillary Clinton one of the worst with her bedside message to coal workers & trump lying 🤥 beyond understanding on bringing back coal miners jobs. It’s sad, heartbreaking, pathetic, stupid what people will believe but for example democrats have to face this issue or they will continue to loose

    • @barnesjohn7657
      @barnesjohn7657 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hillary’s messages to coal miners was a 100% correct & she included some very good example of how to fix tough to solve issues. This is not the first time liberals, we’re not good at presenting solutions but then the subject of loosing your job is scary. People naturally doesn’t to change as much as coal miners don’t want to but the message carrier, Hillary made it too very easy to just blame Hillary .?.?.? & focus was lost on the messsge.

    • @ourevilone
      @ourevilone 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i disagree that the internet is the only reason. people have trouble getting quality jobs that pay, and you are worried about paying your rent than buying a new shirt and pants.

    They should convert it into a gigantic senior retirement home.. Just 2x4's and sheetrock and your done.. Community kitchen, pool , some emplyees to clean... Space rents based on size, like basic:790$.. extra: 1255$, and deluxe: 1875$..

    I believe one day people will realize how antisocial they are becoming .A point and a click everything is now at your front door food from Panera , clothes from brands that never had a brick and mortar store then you have to return the clothes because they don’t fit from All that food you get delivered to your door then returning items through a guy with a bad haircut at the Post Office or UPS and you never see your friends In Person because they are checking their Facebook status🙄 as we lose our true Identity .Amazon is part of the problem so we went from people working retail jobs making money learning how to deal with people “making the sale” becoming managers etc. to all making slave wage for Amazon and have to plan your bathroom pit stop as you shop orders in a warehouse for them,or the delivery driver who took a dump in your bushes because he has to make 300 stops by noon Oh wait he doesn’t get a lunch break .....no Union rules , Lastly who the heck is paying all the electric and heating bills for that place.???? No security either You think a gym would open up in there convert the rest to office space,or affordable senior living they could mall walk ,have a grocery store a senior city ..Well summers coming2018. put down that computer take your Family OUTSIDE go for a walk play some video games at this mall and talk to your kids about life when people socialized at the Mall. Peace😎

    its fascinating to see a place that was once packed with people, buzzing with life, slowly turn into a hollow shell....the era of dead/abandonned malls is going to end sometimes in the near future. imagine no more dead malls to admire. Its a sad thought.
    Its almost like watching a bunch of your favorite senior citizen who are all approaching death , slowly dying, one by one. and you enjoy seeing them dead. then , no more old people dying to enjoy. Breaks my heart, i love seeing them in their end days, suffering.....hehehehe
    Wow, a random arcade is the only thing left. You wouldn't believe it if you didnt see it. A store is normal, an arcade.... hopefully theres alot of teens that still go there . Another waste of a beautiful structure. :'(
    I feel like Dan Bell does. I think we all do.

      It is indeed sad. I'm grateful people like Seph Lawless, Dan Bell, Retail Archaeology and many others make videos such as this. Most of the malls I grew up with have already been demolished - unfortunately before the trend of video makers documenting their existence. It's nice to be able to see these great old places one more time before they slip into true abandonment and decay.
      The old drive-ins are gone, the malls are going . . . what's next?

    It's sad growing up with great stores and having fun hanging out on weekends at all graphic t-shirt shops gadzooks, Gap, Cinemas, all the great Hallmark names in brand that you could try on before buying (was it excessive probably but look at the degradation of youth) we've traded small businesses (some not small) for youth correctional facilites, online dating, online gaming (which my kids enjoy) but it's important to be able to talk....I remember having a PC (using it then leaving to hangout) with Friends you could go to a party or all meet at the mall strip then go from there. Pagers were cool and cars were awesome...now it's just an afterthought. Are we walking backwards or just sideways....but air was electric regardless of how miserable school was and free thought flowed(still do but not as fun nor exciting, words do it no Justice and everyone hung out you had so many collective groups in one spot it was cool and you conversed with everyone....now student debt with indoctrination....lol

    the symbiotic relationship between the oppression of capitalism and our pride as consumers represented and combined with the nostalgia we desperately try to obtain now daily... its alot... its alot to take.
