I love Andy Weir's use of science in his books to get you more invested in the plot. While teaching you something you may have not known about before.

That’s a great way of looking at it.

Which edition would be more valuable?

This is one of my favourite adaptations from book to screen. Drew Goddard did an amazing job in selecting which scenes to include and what to cut to maintain the themes of the book (isolation, endurance, will to survive, humour) and the feel of the character, without bogging it down with too many awful events happening that he had to overcome. The cut parts I loved in the book, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything from not having them in the film.
It's a tie for me. I love the science details in the book (I am that kind of guy) but the movie gave me the feeling of the importance of the science behind this to all the characters and this wasn't about luck, it was about sciencing the shit out of it and solving the problem, then the next, and the next. It was also about humanity, and the movie nailed that tone from the book.
It's a rare one. I love both. I don't think anything is lost in translation or misplaced. It's the same story told in a different medium and with the strengths of that medium being used and nothing lost.
My kid doesn't read novels, but this is one of the few he read after seeing the movie and he loved it. He said it felt the same just with longer spent with Mark and inside his head rather than hearing it from outside.

I’d love the book I finished reading it. The other day took me a very long time because I have ADD HD and it’s kind of help me also pick up the book. I also seen the movie before I read the book I noticed and there’s a lot of stuff taken out and a lot of stuff at the end at it in Because at the end of the book, he says he’s just grateful he’s happy to be alive, but this added thing with the space Academy is very interesting

me too then i watched the movie... the visuales are fantastic but the problem solving part is missing Mark Watney,s abillaty to adapt to his inviroment and think outside the box is wat makes the story. the movie is to clean to polished . missleading future genarations of astronouts to think any idiot can get to mars as long as nassa is holding there hand

I read about Shackleton decades ago when I was a preteen (maybe teenager). Loved his story.
