1:31 in this map you depicts Jerusalem and especially the east Jerusalem to be part of Israel when in reality it's not Israel it's occupied territory that occupied by Israel under international law. So why you put it in your videos?
In your map of the 1967 war you show the West Bank as Israeli. The truth is that it was part of Jordan, who annexed it themselves in 1949. This is one subject in which it is essential to stick to objective truth as far as possible. You have also missed out the 1956 War. In general I like and value your videos.
Jordan renounced its claim to the territory in 1988. Jordan didn’t want a Palestinian state next to them that would have sovereignty, borders, and a military that could work to take over the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which the Palestinians did try to do in September 1970.
@@AndyFromBeavertonfor some reason, lots ignore the actions of Arab countries regarding Palestine, and the lack of a Palestinian state can be blamed not just on Israel, but Palestinian extremists and even several Arab states. This conflict is legitimately complex and genuinely complicated. I don’t get why people suggest it isn’t
Finally someone that explains the complexity of the issue. Regardless of which political side you identify with, any claim for a simple "just do this" solution is completely ignorant of the complexity.
A small mistake I noticed in the video: You've marked the Golan Heights in green with the rest of Israel in 1948 and pre-war 1967 when it was still in Syrian hands, only to later switch it to blue in the aftermath of the six day war. Edit: another mistake: at 16:03, you put Hezbollah flags in the West Bank, though as far as I know they only operate in Lebanon and Syria.
Good point. Those who are against Israel conveniently forget that those land that Israel is supposedly occupied was "occupied" as the result of Muslim attacks. If Muslims haven't tried to invade Israel those lands would continue to be under Muslims control. Another important correction, Gaza is poor not because it has "no strategic values" whatever it supposed to mean but because it is under control of Hamas Jihadists (hopefully not for long). It's literally Islamic Halifax with Sharia laws as the laws of the land.
There's more. He also makes it look like the Arab states were the ones to attack in 1967, while Israël started the war by attacking Egyptian airfields. See 13:29. Israëli officials later stated that there was no sign Arab nations were planning an attack so this is quite a miss to be honest.
@@henk7591 You conveniently forgot that Egypt expelled UN peacekeepers who had been stationed in the Sinai Peninsula since the Suez conflict, and announced a blockade of Israel's access to the Red Sea (international waters) via the Straits of Tiran, which was an act of war against Israel.
One point this video fails to mention is the value of the Negev Desert in terms of flat land mass and width. This southern desert not only hosts Israel's only advanced nuclear facility producing vast quantities of nuclear fuel for it's weapons programmes as well as two of the Jewish States largest and most advanced military air ports hosting their most advanced F35I stealth 4th generation fighters.

@@farzana6676that's partially a myth. The USA had little to to do with the 1948 victory for example. @@farzana6676Not true. Do you want me to list down a large list of proxy wars where the US was directly or indirectly involved and they lost? Israel stands strong mostly because of the people who live there who know that their existence as a community depends upon the existence of Israel.
@MrX-lk3ij If America was not giving F35's or F16's to those proxies, then America wasn't really backing them, atleast not comprehensively. Like Japan and Korea, Israel is another example of success when America fully commits to a nation's success.

Thank you for providing this context for this ongoing conflict in that region. It cannot be overstated how much we need more coverage that educates rather than propagates.
@@leandersearle5094 no because the spreading of ideas simply for the sake of spreading them is more dangerous to ignorant people in the world than only having to deal with biased information propagating. An educated person knows that nuclear physics isn't biased information, but that doesn't stop an educated person from knowing that we should be careful how we propagate that knowledge and who we propagate it to responsibly. Jane Elliott jas a white that I must paraphrase, but it is something to the effect of "the job of education is to lead the student away from ignorance." Education provides awareness and context that a flood of propagated yet useless information cannot replace.
@@Tygrus758 I'm afraid I don't understand your point from the perspective of it. I understand sorting out chaff/noise from useful information, but you seem to be advocating for the removal of useful information simply because there is too much of it (and that's as much charity as I can give you). I agree that having information collated for you is handy, but I can't agree to the statement that there must be a filter between people and information.
@@leandersearle5094 so you believe that a person that learned a new lesson yesterday should begin teaching, as an expert, the very next day? That wouldn't be very educated. It's acheivable with propaganda and propagated media though. We moderate information daily because people are overwhelmed by too much information. Propagating information for the sake of propagation is damaging. Just look at the world we live in today. Educational media and Propagandized media are separated by their motivation towards the ignorant people learning the information. Education encourages critical thinking and further education while propaganda needs the opposite. Propagated media only needs to be spread because there is no consideration for whether the information helps or hurts.
@@Tygrus758 To answer your one question: in a sense, yes. People learning should be sharing their knowledge with other students and with those who haven't learned yet (I did catch that you said "as an expert," but that would be impossible, and I chose to extend the grace of ignoring a dishonest phrase). As for propagation, most people already filter the information given to them, through ignoring it, and it's only when *forced* to engage (such as being pressured to take a side in a conflict) that they will imbibe chaff as useful information and discard useful information as chaff. The is no limiting principal on requiring "experts" for roles. It must be opposed externally, or it will push inexorably toward any and all ad rediculum arguments that can be made. THAT is what we observe today. A responsible citizen in a republic NEEDS access to as much information as possible to make an informed decision. The erosion of this principal is currently leading to tyranny in *every* Western nation, and infantilizing the populace can and will only make the problems worse.
its crazy because it felt like Israel was getting one geopolitical win after another until the bombings from Gaza happened. They were getting official recogniction from more and more countries and notwithstanding some domestic issues they were doing great diplomatically
Israel was doing better, but Netanyahu was not. Iron dome not working properly that oct.7, turret weren't working that day oct.7 and the military consolidated away from the border instead of instantly going to counter the attack. They only sent helicopters to deal with them oct.7-8. Then they went to the border towns. This was a perfect storm for Israel to become Fascist dictatorship under Netanyahu that will rule for life.
Those diplomatic achievments were a danger to the goals of Hamas and Iran, thats why they attacked. suffering Palenstinians have always be the justification to kill jews, thats why their arab "brothers" never allowed them to have peace.

This video has a pro-Israeli bent. The video acts like Israel got its independence from Britain when it was facilitated by Britain. It doesn't mention the displacement but mentions the Arab nations attacking. In 1967, it makes it seem as the Arabs got together and attacked Israel and it doesn't mention that Israel was the original surprise attacker. This video is certainly biased.

Also forgot to mention that Israel managed to control the entirety of the Sinai up to the Suez Canal after the 6 day war. But was forced to give it back due to international pressure, mostly from Saudi Arabia which threatened an oil embargo on the US. Huge amount of land they were forced to give back tho they gained Egypt to recognize Israel as a sovereign state.
Great video. I would just like to add that this conflict punches waaaay above its weight class in terms of the exposure it gets. Many other conflicts, even of religious/ethnic character, are bloodier and have been going on for longer, but gets nowhere near the attention this conflict gets. That has reasons of course, but it's important to remember that it's not materially the most important conflict in the world even though it seems so at times. South Sudan, Yemen/Saudi and Ngorno Karabakh barely gets any airtime compared to when something happens in Israel/Palestine.
Israel is viewed by many in the global south and east (not just Muslims) as West's biggest colonization project. It is a symbol of slavery that many feel they still fight against. For many, it will never compare to any other conflict, and without empathy you will never understand it... so don't try. Many who are dissatisfied with their governments will wrongly or correctly blame American Imperialists for their woes and Israel is a big symbol of that oppression for them. It is a simple story of westerners taking land, but not just any land... A piece of land in the old world (not the Americas, not Australia). It is funny that the land that has caused the almost religious like awakening against western imperialism (aka liberal democratic policies aligned with American interests, I know some of you are allergic to the world imperialism) happens to be the "holy land".

I think its quite easy to understand. This is geopolitics, what's happening in the practical - material world, is that a humanitarian crisis caused by an unmeasured attack from Israel is occurring in Gaza, whatever comes moving forward is to attend to that and for Israel to face the consequence of their actions, the existence of a state based in such occupation and mistreatment through violence is not progress and should never be seen as a complex issue.

This is because the video doesnt cover the entire history. Before Israel declared independence from the British Mandate of Palestine, there were barely any Jews living there, according to British census, there were more than half a million Muslims and around sixty thousand Jews, almost the same number as Christians. If we are comparing Israel's geography to simple mechanical devices, then it resembles a wedge rather than a linchpin. Strategically it is also a wedge that divides the Arab world. Another false claim. Israel did not occupy land from any "country". In 47 the land (which was British at the time) was divided by the UN between Arabs and Jews. The Jews accepted and the Arabs started a war in which Jordan occupied the west bank (which wasn't given to them by the UN) and Egypt occupied Gaza. Later in 67 Israel took the west bank and Gaza which Jordan and Egypt didn't claim was theirs since. No one claimed that the west bank is "occupied" when the Jordanians occupied it after the 48 war. No "country" ruled the west bank and Gaza accept for the British who left in 47 and Egypt and Jordan which occupied it and gave up on any connection to the land.
The biggest problem is if territories of states are not connected and split by another state’s territory. Similar to the Armenia and Azerbaijan conflict. In the Gaza situation it’s even worse because of the tremendous high population. It’s not like it would be possible to re locate the people… in the Armenian Azerbaijani conflict it would be theoretically possible to get clear separated borders…. Not saying what Azerbaijan did is justifiable… Just wanted to point out the geographical aspects that are often factors or reasons in such wars/conflicts. I know that to the Israeli Palestinian conflict way more factors need to be considered but for a long term peace agreement between both parties and a 2 state solution Gaza being cut off to the rest of the world would lead again to another conflict sooner or later regardless of whatever Israel does now militarily.

A one-state solution, "from the river to the sea," would be ideal - think of a secular Republic of the Levant. However, racial hatred, religious agendas, and deep-rooted distrust on both sides make that impossible. Too bad they can't all just get along, live and let live. It could be a beautiful, happy, and prosperous nation for all, but instead it is eternally cursed with violence, enmity, and death.
There is a problem with settlements argument. While from the Israeli perspective building settlements for security may have made sense pre Oslo accords because they were being threatened existentially from all sides. They didn’t make sense after that. Arab by the late 90s recognised they are not capable of wiping out the Israeli state and have to coexist. So building settlements actually made security situation worse because it increased grievance and resistance among Palestinians. This resulted in 2nd intifada and increased support for extremists like the Hamas. Even Israel recognised that. That’s why they exited Gaza and broke the settlements in there. But because they did it without negotiation, the PLO lost legitimacy and instead Hamas instead was able make the case that only violence can save the Palestinians. If the problem for Israel was that Palestinians hate them, they made the situation worse by building more settlements as now Palestinians hate them even more. Most Palestinians don’t have intrinsic hatred towards Jews. Even in mid 2000s during the 2nd intifada most supported negotiation. In your videos you make it seem like peace between Israel and its neighbours is not possible and thus they have to conquer territories to secure themself. But even Israel knows that is not true. You pointed out how the Sinai desert can be used to threaten Israel but you failed to mention they once conquered the territories during the Yom Kappur War. Under this videos logic keeping the territory would have been great for strategic depth and security. But they knew if they kept the territory Egypt would have grievance and try to attack them again. That’s why they negotiated and gave the territory back in return for recognition and security. Even other Arab wants to cooperate and thus the Abram’s accord went through. They did by trying to ignore the Palestinian question and settlements. But now with the hamas the Palestinian problem has come to everyone’s attention. Saudi Arabia which tried to normalise relations cannot do it until the settlements problem has been solved. Speaking about Hamas attack, even Israelis recognise settlements are a security threat to them. Netenyahu is unpopular despite being a wartime leader because he focused so much on the settlements, Hamas was able to invade southern Israel and kill and kidnap Israelis. IDF was late in responding. Even if you talk about Iran funding terror organisation, they wouldn’t have the support required, if the Palestinians didn’t have grievances against Israelis for building settlements.
My hot take is that…if the choice between peace with the Saudis and Emiratis, or defending the illegal settlements…Washington will pressure Israel to throw the settlers overboard. And not only that. An end to the settlements might even bring the Qatari’s to the table. In which case it’s curtains for the settlements. Tel Aviv will take that deal because Washington will make them
Well, quite the opposite. The Oslo accords brought Yasser Arafat from exile to rule over the Palestinians in exchange for peace. Yasser Arafat didn't hold the Oslo agreement one bit. He smuggled weapons in his car on his very arrival to the west bank. He did not mean peace, only Taki'a, which means to fool your enemy with a feigned peace agreement when you're weak only to attack him by surprise when you're strong enough. The situation for Israelis deteriorated drastically after the Oslo accords because of the terror that Arafat brought with him, not the settlements. This is just an illusion. The failure of Oslo is a stark reminder for all Israelis why they should never trust the nice words of the Arabs, ond only negitiate from a position of power.
The problem with the settlements nowadays is... you're talking about evicting almost 10% of the Jewish population of the country out of their homes. Complete abandonment of the settlements could actually start a civil war. The numbers here are approaching those of the Palestinian refugees back in 1948.
Any war with Israel is purely from Islamic inspired antisemitism nothing more nothing less. The Palestinians say it themselves. Iran says the same thing they don’t care for peace they only want the obliteration of the Jewish people.
@@רבקיויזל-צ7רwhat a beautiful life and bright future await the people who share your opinion and vision. The probability of isreal being completely wiped out is higher if things continue like this and escalate, suit yourself.
Just to correct, HAMAS rule of Gaza wasn't as a consequence of the siege of Gaza (or more accurately the current harsher siege), but rather the opposite it started only in 2007, after in 2006 HAMAS won the elections and in 2007 when HAMAS completely took over executed FATAH officilas. Zionists were planning a Israel in your country first. May be the Jewish population reason. Any way later they Understood kicking out Arabs under British empire was easier. So here we are.

Those counties jumped Israel in 5 wars. After the Six Day war Egypt was lucky Israel gave them their Eastern lands back . Egypt is not trying their luck again .
Egypt is just like Pakistan in 1 way: having a military whose concern is winning elections not wars, a military which exists to hoard money and oppress civilians, not fight foreign enemies.
It's tough but not impossible as the IDF is fully mobilised , well equipped , well led and extremely experienced. Hamas is 80% defeated and IDF is prepared to take on Hezbollah at short notice. The western world will eliminate the threat from the Houthis of Yemen to safeguard their commerical shipping. Syria is blocked by the Golan heights and has been weakened by the civil war. Lebanese economy is on the verge of collapse
There are mistakes in history regarding the State of Israel The Jewish people had the state of the Hebrews who, in those times in the biblical days, for those who were not Jews, called the land the land of Canaan. After that the nation of Israel was made up of 12 tribes That the two strongest tribes were Judah + Jerusalem and the surrounding area, and Israel north of it, the Kingdom of Dan = Tel Aviv and the surrounding area, etc. At that time in the Gaza area, for example, there was a non-Jewish tribe called the Philistines who had no connection to the Muslims or the Palestine. When the Romans and Greeks were an empire they ruled this area and therefore wanted to keep the Jews away from Jewish studies and connection to Judaism for loyalty to the religion and culture of the empires, the empires called this territory Palestine which continued until the Ottoman period and until the days of the British mandate that ruled Israel afterwards. At the time of the British Mandate there were Arabs in the Land of Israel and because some of the Arabs wanted to keep the Jews away from certain areas in the Land of Israel Israel and even the British fought them and some left for Arab countries, the majority of Arabs in Israel was under a million people in those times. When Jordan conquered Jerusalem, many Arabs returned to settle in Judea and Samaria in Israel When Egypt ruled Gaza, Muslims came to settle in Gaza. The State of Israel was Palestine because of the empires that changed its name Jews were called by the empires residents of Palestine including Arabs who lived there That is why there is no such thing as a Palestinian people, there is such a thing as Arab Muslim residents, some of whom were confused in Israel and are called Israeli Arabs, the Palestine of "today" is an invention for the connection of the Philistines or for the name of Israel in the past as Palestine - there is no connection even though they connect it in order to get land and occupy plots of land from Israel , the 1948 and 1967 map, these are maps that the Jews agreed with in their thinking, perhaps giving the Arabs territories and losing territories in Israel for peace - the one who started a war is the Arabs against the Jews, not the other way around, even though according to the Jewish religion and the biblical map, this land is the land of the Jews, the land of the Hebrew people, who are actually the Jews. This is the true story, it's a shame that it was the reality. Today it is Israel and Israel does not want to bring another 5 million Arabs into it Therefore, it is ready to lose territory and establish an Arab state that will be called Palestine or whatever they want. The big problem is that more than 50 percent of this population continues to stir up wars and terrorism and build resistance and do not want peace, therefore Israel has the right to defend itself and not support the establishment of a contiguous state that will be built on terrorist infrastructures, and therefore Israel wants security control. The Arabs of Israel, for example, are proud of their state, even though in their hearts they would like an Arab state, but they know and respect the Jews and know that this is their land and the state of the Jewish people. By the way, this part of Jordan was also the kingdom of one of the 12 tribes of Israel And the Jews do not demand this land from Jordan for peace Because what is important to the Jewish people above all is the city of Jerusalem. It's a shame that history is being distorted And in practice today, in order to establish the state of Palestine, it is necessary to exchange territories so that Israel does not lose 40 percent of its lands, and that any Arab leader who rules Palestine will make sure that terrorist organizations do not rule - the problem is that it is not guaranteed, and therefore peace is very far away even when trying to maintain peace. incidentally The Gaza strip was smaller than in the past, the village of Gaza, Khan Yunis, these are the main villages and cities in the area, Rafah belonged to Egypt. When we gave them a contiguous area called the Gaza Strip, we saw what happened? Most of the residents of Gaza chose resistance and Hamas, only half of them do not want them. A complex story, so in wars will you make peace? A problematic issue. Therefore, it requires the intervention of all countries in the world to solve this issue once and for all, and there are many options for both the Jews to be satisfied and the Arabs of the villages (the Palestinians in the new Jordan) And it's a shame that the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians want the entire territory of the State of Israel and declare war on the Jews. Is this a religious war?
The US only funds the UN to justify its wars. Hold you horses, little boy, you Westerns are the bad guys. There's a reason everybody hates you. You have to accept reality
Exactly, he started with the sponsor who helps him get unbiased information then makes the most biased video. I kept going until he said Israel independence from Britain, this is the most biased sentence I've ever heard. Britain created Israel on the Palestinian land through war crimes, rape, and ethnic cleansing
@@saffsuff It _is_ unbiased. Look at the title: the video is about the geopolitics of Israel. Individual-level conflicts have zero effect on geopolitical realities.
A few issues: 1. in the 1948 map at 11:45 you show Israel as controlling the Golan Height when at the time it was controlled by Syria. The same holds true for the map you show at the beginning of the 1967 Six Day War at time 13:39 in the video. 2. the "other occupied heights" you show in your map at 7:50 are within the internationally recognized borders of israel (pre 1967 war) 3. at 8:40 you mentioned that the only notable locations in the Negev ar Eilat and Gaza, but in fact the regions largest city and capital of the Southern District (which contains practically all of the Negev plus a bit of the coastal plain north of Gaza) is Beersheba , which has a population of 200k vs 50k for Eilat. It's also worth mentioning Dimona which has a population of 30k and is home to the world's "most secure textile factory".
I am truly disappointed in you Shirvan as you made several mistakes in narrating the sequence of events of what happened in 1967. Specifically, when you said the the Egyptians crossed into the Negev desert. The truth is that Israel started with its massive air strikes on Egyptian, Jordanian, Syrian and even Iraqi airports and once the It established air superiority, the stationed Egyptian army in Sinai was sitting ducks to the Israeli and then the Egyptian army withdrew from Sinai while being bombed. There were limited incursion from the Gaza strip but it was quelled quickly. Neither the Egyptian not the Jordanian armies were able to infiltrate Israel as you claimed. I thought you were unbiased and objective.
The ancient World of Conquest had shown the biggest issue strategic surrounding of this region. Whoever controls this region, it opens the gateway either North or South.
@@sammalamaWe may not live in the ancient world, but the Geography of the land, which had not changed for centuries will head us in the repeated cycle of how world conquest is made. Even for us people to today will also become part of the ancient world. Having this type of thinking (Studying ancient history) ensures us either for a better future or how to deal with what is to come. By not Studying the past, we are just ensuring the repeated cycle, which time had shown us in the Middle East, which was also known as Mesopotamia.
@@Nameles84 You can't solve the problems of the future with the type of thinking that created them. If you want a world where all people live in harmony, you can't keep thinking in ancient war tactics. I'm not saying don't study the past, I'm saying don't repeat it by avoiding how these problems are created in the first place.
@@sammalama You solve the problems of the future by studying the past by preventing scenarios from happening if one do not think of how ancient tactics works, you can't counter them if your opponent (who also studied them) believe in Harmony through Conquest. - It's like a pro-gamer, who have learned from past experience, against a novice, who don't even know how geography works. It is the same behavior when Buddhism once flourished in Central Asia during a period where people believe in harmony for being kind and be naive that others will do like wise, but the Persians and Arabs of that time believe in Harmony through conquest, which led to their foundation till this day and the end of Buddhism in Central Asia.
@@Nameles84 You can be strong and kind. Why do people have the need for conquest in the first place? We have explored the entire planet, there's nowhere left to go, nothing left to take. You said to learn from the past, and clearly they haven't if they're repeating the exact same military tactics used by every empire that ran through that region. If every empire has done it, and failed to hold on to power, what makes you think you can? Clearly you're repeating the same mistakes. Again, you can't solve a problem with the same mind set that created the problem. The answer is finding a way to make everyone feel welcome, and part of the big picture.
I learned so much from this video. It's crazy that we never really learn about both sides in the US and are left to wonder "why no two-state solution yet?"
The US supports way more than their other allies. Not a single US soldier ever stationed in Israel, for instance. (Well, there is only that new American radar, mainly for American use). Not to mention that until 1973, it had barely any support at all, from all over the globe. Maybe except Czechoslovakia and a little from France.
The Philistines (Hebrew: פְּלִשְׁתִּים, romanized: Pəlīštīm; Koine Greek (LXX): Φυλιστιείμ, romanized: Phulistieím) were an ancient people who lived on the south coast of Canaan during the Iron Age. There were five cities (the Pentapolis) of the Philistine confederacy (Gaza, Ashkelon [Ascalon], Ashdod, Gath, and Ekron) in the Land of the Philistines. It was from this designation that the whole of the country was later called Palestine by the Greeks. Nevertheless, Rabbi Elie Mischel wants you to believe that Palestinians did not descend from, nor bear any relation to, the ancient Philistines. Ridiculous.
Even if the Palestinians were derived from the Philistines it would prove the opposite of what they want you to believe, the Philistines are from the Aegean.
Arabs invaded Israel in 1948 and occupied the territories that the UN gave to the palestines. Never the Arabs give the palestines anything. Only Israel gave them anything ever. Gaza and big parts of Jude'a and Samaria. Israel is not apartheid, and Israel is not "illegal" whatever it suppose to mean. 21% of Israelis today are Arabs, most of them are Muslims.
Best explanation about this complex issue I have seen/heard yet. A comprehensive understanding of the current situation as well as historical background and underpinnings is important if not crucial.
Hey, Shirvan, how about a video about the UN and how its power quickly dissipated. I ask because it seems that geopolitics (to be more precise the relationship between defense and geopolitics) resurgement after 1991 has increased in significance together with the continuous weakening of an already week UN. Thanks!
22% are dual citizens? the leader of the country is some guy from Philadelphia? they've plenty of places, more than the Palestinians that's for sure. And before any "they(Palestinians) have the whole Arab world to take them in!" Why didn't the whole "free" world take in jews before the start of the holocaust? and why didn't some jews choose to leave even after violence rapidly escalated against Jewish communities' during and after Kristallnacht?
There were many proposed places for a Jewish state. Palestine was not the primary proposal. You had south America, Russia, Madagascar etc. "The Jewish question" was a purely European problem, Europeans are the actual anti Semites, they don't want Jews, it's why they kicked them out and let the Arabs/Muslims deal with them.
As an Israeli I feel like this is not propaganda for any side, but rather just educates and gives more perspective to why we are in a pretty impossible state, just trying to exist and defend ourselves.
@@Phantom-un2oxI'm afraid that is only you see Jews we're on that land for 4,000. Yes the first Arab/Middle east people were Jews not Muslims, Jews. Anyway where was I , Ahh yes Unlike China's claim of the sea 2 thousand years ago. The Israel's claim is different, See they never left the land, they were there since the creation of Islam, they never left. They were there ever since, So don't you say Israel occupied when it was never the Palestinians(Muslim state)
@Phantom-un2ox The United nations legally attributed land to the jews in 1948, on which they legally declared their independance. Arabs didn't accept it and tried to invade that legally acquired land. In other words, Arabs tried to steal it. Unfortunately, they got f-cked and territories legally given by the UN to the palestininans were occupied by the jews while repelling the arabs. Too bad 🥴
In 1967 it was Israel that surprised attacked the arab countries pre emptively the Egyptian and Syrians were in no posture to initiate an attack as the Egyptian airforce was wiped out in the beginning of the war. As for the rest, I liked the analysis, it reflects the thoughts of Tim Marshall in Prisoners of geography.
Yes, because they blocked the Straits of Tiran for Israeli ships multiple times, blocking Israels natural access to Red Sea and even after being warned to do so again would result in a war, blocked the Straits of Tiran for Israeli ships yet again. Obviously, this resulted in said war. It's honestly almost comedic how these countries LOVE to play the victim role
In the video if you notice it says that the arab armies attacked I was merely pointing that out. There was no attack from the arab armies. Also blocking the straits of Tiran is not an invitation to invade 3 separate countries. Diplomacy should have been used and abused, war is not the solution that is why Israel is still sitting on the same problem so many years after said conflicts
You should also mention that egypt, syria and jordan have been doing millitary excercises on the israeli border for weeks before the war. And that the israeli military also got information for an imminant attack
Imagin you mobilise your armies and march to another country's borders threatening to invade, then claim you were caught by surprise when the country you mobilised armies against strike🙄
Liked how you tried to stay unbiased but you unconsciously didn't mention a lot of important details that would have explained the topic better, instead the video leaves an impression that Israel is a victim that has to commit atrocities to stay in the region which is not true, either way i enjoyed the video.
At this point. I think Israel is over it. And I think the rest of the world is to. And is prepared to do whatever it takes to defend themselves. And I don’t blame them.
@@simoncurtain well that is exactly what Israel wants, but a nation built on lies and illegal occupation will never remain in peace, and yeah the world is clearly not over it, massive protests all over the world at the moment, In my opinion they should deal with their problems with a proper solution and recognition of the Palestinian people, otherwise both nations will live in constant threat and instability.

One of the best analysis and explanationnof the issues and problems in implementimg the 1993 Oslo Peace accords and the 2 state solution. Well done mate and thank you for this incisive explanation
Most of them are Mizrahi Jews whose ancestors lived in the Arab world rather than Europe. These Jews were driven out by the Arabs. On the one hand the Arabs complain that the Jews live there, on the other hand they have driven the Jews there.
Most Israelis came from Muslim countries. You have been lied to by devious haters of Jews. Jews are not indigenous to Brooklyn. Jews are not American Indians. Jews come from Judea. Israelites come from Israel. Imagine that. Muslims created most Israelis when they violently expelled all the Jews in lands they controlled. Maybe if Israel had done the same and expelled Arabs, there would today be peace. But Israel was never willing to do that. They feel constrained by morality, unlike Arabs and Muslims who have no reluctance to expel Jews. The ancient Jewish communities across North Africa and the Middle East disappeared. You can still find their graveyards and abandoned synagogues, but there are no live Jews there anymore. Where did they go? Israel.
If this were like old times, Israel would already be part of another empire, as its been throughout history. This modern world, with nearly unlimited range for super power militaries, things are very different. Its interesting.

I really appreciate topographical map you used 4:05, use it regularly, we can understand maps much better like that.

In your map of the 1967 war you show the West Bank as Israeli. The truth is that it was part of Jordan, who annexed it themselves in 1949. This is one subject in which it is essential to stick to objective truth as far as possible. You have also missed out the 1956 War. In general I like and value your videos.
And also, the gaza strip was occupied by egypt at the same time
And yom kipur war
also, arabs started those wars, and Israel is more an European state than an Asian.

Its a probability of what can happen if west bank not controlled

You conveniently forgot that Egypt expelled UN peacekeepers who had been stationed in the Sinai Peninsula since the Suez conflict, and announced a blockade of Israel's access to the Red Sea (international waters) via the Straits of Tiran, which was an act of war against Israel.
I was confused too, Hezbollah acting in the West Bank would be a nightmare for Israel. Also, he forgot Lebanon when talking about the 1947-1949 war.

THAT is what we observe today.

its crazy because it felt like Israel was getting one geopolitical win after another until the bombings from Gaza happened. They were getting official recogniction from more and more countries and notwithstanding some domestic issues they were doing great diplomatically
It was disintegrating internally due to Netanyahu trying to put an end to an independent judiciary

In 100 years we will still have this conflict. It is a total mess with no way out.

Jewish population greatly increased via the zionist organized immigration projects. Zionism is a toxic fascist ideology and the cause of this whole conflict, it is not "complex", just study history.

If we are comparing Israel's geography to simple mechanical devices, then it resembles a wedge rather than a linchpin. Strategically it is also a wedge that divides the Arab world. Given rhat Winston Churchill - the main architect of the post-Ottoman Middle East - said that he wanted it to become " an empire on the cheap" governed by the principle of "divide and rule", the wedge comparison sewms apt.

Not saying what Azerbaijan did is justifiable…
Just wanted to point out the geographical aspects that are often factors or reasons in such wars/conflicts. I know that to the Israeli Palestinian conflict way more factors need to be considered but for a long term peace agreement between both parties and a 2 state solution Gaza being cut off to the rest of the world would lead again to another conflict sooner or later regardless of whatever Israel does now militarily.
Israel will destroy it self with in . They can not go for one state solution without a masscre of 6 miljon people or stablishing an undemocratic faschist Apartheid state like south Africa .
@@vulpo yes it could really
Gaza has the sea, and a border with Egypt, so it is not necessarily cut off from the rest of the world (or wasnt until Hamas took over).
Half of all Palestinians in Palestine live in the Gaza Strip alone.

The western world will eliminate the threat from the Houthis of Yemen to safeguard their commerical shipping. Syria is blocked by the Golan heights and has been weakened by the civil war. Lebanese economy is on the verge of collapse
There are mistakes in history regarding the State of Israel
The Jewish people had the state of the Hebrews who, in those times in the biblical days, for those who were not Jews, called the land the land of Canaan.
After that the nation of Israel was made up of 12 tribes
That the two strongest tribes were Judah + Jerusalem and the surrounding area, and Israel north of it, the Kingdom of Dan = Tel Aviv and the surrounding area, etc.
When Jordan conquered Jerusalem, many Arabs returned to settle in Judea and Samaria in Israel
When Egypt ruled Gaza, Muslims came to settle in Gaza.
The State of Israel was Palestine because of the empires that changed its name
Jews were called by the empires residents of Palestine including Arabs who lived there
That is why there is no such thing as a Palestinian people, there is such a thing as Arab Muslim residents, some of whom were confused in Israel and are called Israeli Arabs, the Palestine of "today" is an invention for the connection of the Philistines or for the name of Israel in the past as Palestine - there is no connection even though they connect it in order to get land and occupy plots of land from Israel , the 1948 and 1967 map, these are maps that the Jews agreed with in their thinking, perhaps giving the Arabs territories and losing territories in Israel for peace - the one who started a war is the Arabs against the Jews, not the other way around, even though according to the Jewish religion and the biblical map, this land is the land of the Jews, the land of the Hebrew people, who are actually the Jews.
This is the true story, it's a shame that it was the reality.
Today it is Israel and Israel does not want to bring another 5 million Arabs into it
Therefore, it is ready to lose territory and establish an Arab state that will be called Palestine or whatever they want.
By the way, this part of Jordan was also the kingdom of one of the 12 tribes of Israel
And the Jews do not demand this land from Jordan for peace
Because what is important to the Jewish people above all is the city of Jerusalem.
It's a shame that history is being distorted
And in practice today, in order to establish the state of Palestine, it is necessary to exchange territories so that Israel does not lose 40 percent of its lands, and that any Arab leader who rules Palestine will make sure that terrorist organizations do not rule - the problem is that it is not guaranteed, and therefore peace is very far away even when trying to maintain peace.
incidentally
The Gaza strip was smaller than in the past, the village of Gaza, Khan Yunis, these are the main villages and cities in the area, Rafah belonged to Egypt.
When we gave them a contiguous area called the Gaza Strip, we saw what happened?
Most of the residents of Gaza chose resistance and Hamas, only half of them do not want them.
A complex story, so in wars will you make peace? A problematic issue.
Therefore, it requires the intervention of all countries in the world to solve this issue once and for all, and there are many options for both the Jews to be satisfied and the Arabs of the villages (the Palestinians in the new Jordan)
And it's a shame that the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians want the entire territory of the State of Israel and declare war on the Jews. Is this a religious war?
If the surrounding is hostile that is mean you dont beloing to that area
@@Icarus7c04 Arabs are cowardly losers and we shall prevail. We are smarter and kinder 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱

Funding? Of what?
@@chikachyk2911 The UN.

Incredible analysis
A very sobering analysis of the Israeli view of its local world.
Exactly...comments say it's unbiased 😂
Exactly it spelled out Israeli point of view.
I'm looking forward to hearing point of view of other paries of this conflict in another video
😂😂 tell me you hate israel without saying it.
A few issues:
1. in the 1948 map at 11:45 you show Israel as controlling the Golan Height when at the time it was controlled by Syria. The same holds true for the map you show at the beginning of the 1967 Six Day War at time 13:39 in the video.
2. the "other occupied heights" you show in your map at 7:50 are within the internationally recognized borders of israel (pre 1967 war)
3. at 8:40 you mentioned that the only notable locations in the Negev ar Eilat and Gaza, but in fact the regions largest city and capital of the Southern District (which contains practically all of the Negev plus a bit of the coastal plain north of Gaza) is Beersheba , which has a population of 200k vs 50k for Eilat. It's also worth mentioning Dimona which has a population of 30k and is home to the world's "most secure textile factory".
Textile factory 😂
I noticed these as well, and thank you for highlighting for others to read and note.
no place to go? I thought most Israeli's are dual US, EU, or Russian citizens?
Good man Caspian. The best summary of the conflict there is.
Fantastic content as usual. Thank you for putting these videos together.
We don't live in the ancient world anymore. But with this type of thinking that's where we're headed.
I believe that was a very difficult video for you to make. Normally your unbiased views are a breath of fresh air... this one left you choking.
So many mad Muslims and tankies in the comments 😂
Thank you for the wonderful video as always Shirvan!
Ziobot
There is a lot of "If you dont agree with me then you are the bad guy" comments. 😅
I learned so much from this video. It's crazy that we never really learn about both sides in the US and are left to wonder "why no two-state solution yet?"
Maybe the problem is lack of homework 😂
This was a very informative piece. Good work.
Above its weight? With full US support.

Not defending Israel. Unlike others. There's no American base.
"Keep your enemies close." Whoever said this didn't have many enemies.
Dude. Why hostile neighborhood. Mabey you refuse to allow free palistine. And arpartied state is illegal
Excellent presentation as always - learnt a lot. Thank you
Hey, Shirvan, how about a video about the UN and how its power quickly dissipated. I ask because it seems that geopolitics (to be more precise the relationship between defense and geopolitics) resurgement after 1991 has increased in significance together with the continuous weakening of an already week UN. Thanks!
Great analysis as always!
"their secret weapon: they have no place to go" that phrase is really what describe why Israel fights
well, their enemy put totall war ideology in, so thats it
22% are dual citizens? the leader of the country is some guy from Philadelphia? they've plenty of places, more than the Palestinians that's for sure.
So do the palestinians...
As an Israeli I feel like this is not propaganda for any side, but rather just educates and gives more perspective to why we are in a pretty impossible state, just trying to exist and defend ourselves.
Just tying to exist in a land you stole and defend those actions* At least that's the perspective of Palestinians
Defend your self from what? Get out of our land so maybe then you don’t have to defend yourself & playing the victim card as usual
@@Phantom-un2oxI'm afraid that is only you see Jews we're on that land for 4,000. Yes the first Arab/Middle east people were Jews not Muslims, Jews.
Anyway where was I , Ahh yes
Unlike China's claim of the sea 2 thousand years ago.
The Israel's claim is different, See they never left the land, they were there since the creation of Islam, they never left. They were there ever since, So don't you say Israel occupied when it was never the Palestinians(Muslim state)
Do you want to kick out millions of Jews from their only safe state?@@husseinisaac4235
Too bad 🥴
4:05 Where can I get this map?
@@Landserfaust1 Israel attacked only Egypt initially, Syria, Jordan and the rest attacked Israel as a result.

Whats stopping Israelis from going back to Europe or Brooklyn?
Why should jews leave their holi land?
Most of them are Mizrahi Jews whose ancestors lived in the Arab world rather than Europe. These Jews were driven out by the Arabs. On the one hand the Arabs complain that the Jews live there, on the other hand they have driven the Jews there.
Most Israelis are not from Europe or Brooklyn...
Israel.
Son of netanyahu lives in the USA he abandoned Israel citizens
If this were like old times, Israel would already be part of another empire, as its been throughout history. This modern world, with nearly unlimited range for super power militaries, things are very different. Its interesting.
