I'm gonna speak from personal experience on this one: When you've realized that nobody gives a fuck that you play guitar well, its downright depressing when some guy happens to have a jawline and a sixpack, can barely play the guitar, and people treat him like some kind of God. I totally understand the hate, even if its motivated by immature bouts of envy and a weird blend of inferiority and superiority.

Idk what you mean, everyone I've met seems pretty impressed when I play guitar and I'm not that good looking. Now if you're talking about on the internet, yeah I agree to an extent bit there's lots of very talented guitarists with big followings on TH-cam.

I've made jokes about guitar making it way easier to get laid and had countless dudes respond "bro that shit is a lie and doesn't work, I've been playing for years and no one gives a shit". Surprised and not surprised to see Jon Dretto here. I played bass in his solo project for a few years, and didn’t really keep up with what he had been doing on tiktok/insta. With his combination of chops and good looks, it’s really not surprising to see him blow up like this. I’m honestly happy for him!

Good stuff! I have to say though, Jon is actually a really nice dude. He lives not too far away and I actually bought a PRS Custom 24 from him that he had listed locally. He definitely has a lot of skill, and being the youngest artist signed by PRS (at least at the time, not sure if still) isn't too shabby.
That doesn't make him any less cringe. It just makes him way cooler than us.

as an old fuck in his 30's I gada say I find this all pretty encouraging for the community... anyone who claims they didn't do some version of this on xenga (that'd be me) or by making shitty mix tapes and head shots or whatever when they were a teenager is full of shit... kids on tiktok are doing exactly what anyone else would be doing with this technology when they were starting out as musicians/going through puberty. Also super stoked to see that Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala seem to be big with the young players, I'll take as much music like that as we can get moving forward!
