Danny goes way too under the radar in general, he's put out some seriously legendary projects. Atrocity Exhibition never got the attention it deserved, and this was another great follow-up
Yah I think this came out at a weird time because people didn't really pick up on it much. Super slept on. It was honestly a huge part of that year for me and the following couple of years. Songs like Best Life, Savage Nomad, and Combat are literally my favorite Danny Brown songs of all time. Easily.
@@HdogGaming5 Ya I remember it kinda felt like it came out of nowhere even though I was all over it the second I heard about it/he released the Dirty Laundry music vid, considering how huge Atrocity Exhibition was for me. Can't imagine many other people heard about it/caught onto it if I was literally actively waiting on Danny's next album, and still felt like it came out of nowhere at the time
Tribe's last album might be the most well-made final project a group has ever put out, to me at least, feels a definitive statement on anything you could think of, still relevant to my life on multiple levels. What is y'alls favorite "final album" or posthumous record?
Shame you weren’t initially into Negro Spiritual. The instrumental is amazing and Danny flowing over it is a feat. I also love JPEGMAFIA’s Pharrell-esque chorus. Cements the groove of the song
Since it came up I'm gonna take this opportunity to HIGHLY recommend Slauson Malone, who had production credits on Shine. He only has three short albums but he has risen to the top of my all time favorites off of those alone. Definitely worth adding to your ever-expanding list.
1:10:20 yeah one of his biggest inspirations as far as I know is joy division, especially with how he’s focused on so many struggles in his music, really laying his soul out. Also Atrocity Exhibition referencing the opening track on Closer and he interpolates the lyrics of “this is the way step inside”. He went live on Instagram near the start of the year and he was playing Atmosphere on repeat for 20 minutes while smoking, and that came before he went sober. Def seems to be something that helps him at his lowest, the same way his helps me. His music really got me much deeper into joy division tbh
Slauson Malone, who produced shine, is like peggy, Danny, and injury reserve in that he’s on the frontier of hip hop with them. Although tbh, it’s hard to say if it’s actually hip hop - it’s hip hop, acoustic, ambient, singer-song writer, r&b and a lot more. I SUPER SUPER recommend listening to his first project, Crater Speak. Also fun fact he’s the son of winston Marsalis, who’s one of the best trumpet players ever
you saying on Savage Nomad that it sounded like Danny was just going insane isn't too far off because Danny said in an interview with Fantano that with this album he was at one of the lowest points of his life
Bob, you definitely have to check out Ol' Dirty Bastards debut album 'Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version'. His mix of rawness and humor and some of RZAs grimiest production ever make this an unforgettable Wu-Tang classic.
I know you love Peggy. And I know you seemed to love the Billy Woods album "maps" So I think you should give Armand Hammer's newest album a listen. It's Billy Woods and Elucid. And a 3 tracks are produced by Jpegmafia.
Many think it's Danny's most wholesome and positive project, but actually this is a really dark/disturbing album if you know the story behind it. After Atrocity Exhibiton came out and it was the time to start making a new project, he wanted it to be even more experimental and darker, but then he met Q-tip and plans had changed, with him saying that he just didn't want people to listen to him talking about the same problems that have gotten a lot worse. So, even though it's all about jokes and funny bars, he was in much darker place making Uknowhatimsayin compared to Atrocity.
Really nice to hear this again and to hear Bob's thoughts on it. I haven't really gone back to it since the year it came out. I enjoyed it back then, but I think it's even more enjoyable than I remember. The production is definitely a trip. Thanks for bringing this back to my attention, now I'm ready to listen to his new album with his previous work in mind to see comparatively how Danny's evolved or what direction he's taken. This was a nice Danny refresher, knowhatImsayin?
Hope you do a reaction to Aethiopes by billy woods some day. I think it's the most forward thinking album of the decade along with Injury Reserve's By the Time I Get To Phoenix. This was great reaction. I've always felt that uknowwhatimsayin is a bit underrated in the experimental hip hop field. It's almost weirder than Atrocity Exhibition but in subtler way. A classic album.
I’d love for you to hear some Slauson Malone 1 as you saw he produced Shine. His new album Excelsior is a journey and a new step in his career in singer-songwriting and his classic experimentation
Negro Spiritual is my favorite song off this album. It was a sign of things to come in 2023, 4 years earlier. Even when it came out we all wanted a jpeg and Danny collab to happen. So glad it did. Not to mention the song goes hard and its just a combination of amazing artists coming together
Revisiting this one today I remember when this one came out. Everything on this album is pure comedy and raw shit probably my favourite Danny brown solo album
I really love the easy going jazzy loopy sound of this album, and the stand up comedy-ish bars is something I wish another artist would attempt! I think it’s a refreshing take on rap.
What you said after the first track about reaction videos is exactly why you have so many fans - no pandering. I was disappointed when you didn’t love Aquemini, but it made me trust when you actually DID like something. It’s why people watched Siskel and Ebert, they are excited to see whether they liked it or not, because it could go either way. That’s the fun of it.
fun fact thundercat was the bass for Negro Spiritual (since flylo produced) also NEED Bob to check out Captain Murphy Duality mixtape and lose his mind (its flying lotus when he raps)
Bob if you liked Theme Song (prob one of my fave Danny songs as well) you need to check out his album with Detroit producer Black Milk who's also super underrated. Very similar sound , dark beats, and a more serious/focused Danny as you put it!
Obongjayar is one of the most interesting Nigerian musicians active now. I highly recommend his album "Some Nights I Dream of Doors" to anyone reading this comment.
Yo bobby if you want to hear more Jpegmafia production you should check out We Buy Diabetic Test Strips by Armand Hammer. Armand Hammer is the duo of billy woods and Elucid. I'm sure you would be into it, it's got trippy ass production and bars for days lol.
I know this isn’t necessarily rap but I suggest listening to Daniel Caesar, he’s a really good R&B/Soul artist and you should start with “Freudian” or even his newest one “Never Enough”.
Bob, I would love for you to react to Flying Lotus. You've heard 2 song produced by him I think, Negro Spiritual and Westley's Theory. I feel like you will like his album Cosmogramma the most, You're Dead is also good.
yo man, i think you should check out any juice wrld album, realized you havent checked one out yet! ik its a pain in the ass when someone asks to check something out but i was surprised juice wrld being so mainstream, that you havent checked out any of his albums aha luv you dawg
great video bob! please react to a Bladee record, I reccomend crest. Bladee makes cloud rap! it's similar to Playboi Carti. Crest specifically is supposed to sound like heaven!!!
Lookin at your jpeg and Danny reviews I think I’m seeing a bias. Just because you like someone as a person doesn’t automatically make the music great didn’t like atrocity exhibition nor Quaranta but I like Danny as a person 😢
he wasn't able to promote it as much as other projects because of Covid and the lockdowns etc.. so no album tour which was a bit sad because this album has some gems on it
underrated project imo, feel like it doesn’t get talked about much
Danny goes way too under the radar in general, he's put out some seriously legendary projects. Atrocity Exhibition never got the attention it deserved, and this was another great follow-up

This album is so good. Right up there with XXX and Atrocity Exhibition for me.
I agree
Bob is the biggest W since the Civil Rights Act of 1965
Tribe's last album might be the most well-made final project a group has ever put out, to me at least, feels a definitive statement on anything you could think of, still relevant to my life on multiple levels. What is y'alls favorite "final album" or posthumous record?
Circles and Blackstar 💔
dilla's donuts
coil's ape of naples is dope too
@@willoverdoseonmusicape of Naples is a classic
this is my favorite danny album, just an incredible display of his versatility
such an easy listen. i'm always finding new corners of this album to love
Shame you weren’t initially into Negro Spiritual. The instrumental is amazing and Danny flowing over it is a feat. I also love JPEGMAFIA’s Pharrell-esque chorus. Cements the groove of the song
I think any song with N word titles make our buddy uncomfortable lol
Agreed, Flying Lotus and Thundercat make for a solid funky and wacky beat like Wesley's Theory and Negro Spiritual are.
I find it ironic that negro spiritual is my favourite album
Since it came up I'm gonna take this opportunity to HIGHLY recommend Slauson Malone, who had production credits on Shine. He only has three short albums but he has risen to the top of my all time favorites off of those alone. Definitely worth adding to your ever-expanding list.
Also he just put out a new album last month so it's timely
red burns by standing on the corner is great too and he had a part in making it
That new album is insane I cannot lie. It's like mandatory to hear the whole thing in one sitting
Totally - imo slauson Malone’s first project is one of the most groundbreaking hip hop projects out today. He’s insane w it
How fitting that you got the listen in for Midnight Marauders, considering Q-tip executive produced this record!
For a reference point, this came about a month after Cornballs came out by Peggy, so it was a good moment in the underground then
Man really appreciate you Bob, been going thru a tough time in life and your thoughts and wisdom about the album really helped me out
only danny could spit a rhyme like "the henny got me wetter than whale piss, i die for this shit like elvis"
1:10:20 yeah one of his biggest inspirations as far as I know is joy division, especially with how he’s focused on so many struggles in his music, really laying his soul out. underrated album coming after the coat tails of atrocity, however in context with quaranta i feel this album will get some much deserved love.
Slauson Malone, who produced shine, is like peggy, Danny, and injury reserve in that he’s on the frontier of hip hop with them. Now I’m even way more interested in what you’d think of “Old”
you saying on Savage Nomad that it sounded like Danny was just going insane isn't too far off because Danny said in an interview with Fantano that with this album he was at one of the lowest points of his life
Very convenient of listening to this after Midnight Marauders since Q-Tip executive produced the album
I love danny browm. His style (crazy, funny, cool af) plus that raw fucking rap talent and his production choices🤯. Definitily my favourite rapper
Bob, you definitely have to check out Ol' Dirty Bastards debut album 'Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version'. His mix of rawness and humor and some of RZAs grimiest production ever make this an unforgettable Wu-Tang classic.
Huge influence on Danny
Might secretly be my favorite solo wu album.
This album is so underrated. Probably my fave Danny record. I return to it the most and it’s kind of become a comfort album for me.
So cool to hear your love for fields. It is my favorite Danny Brown track despite it being far more low key than other highlights like Ain’t it Funny.
love you bob glad you didnt skip this, definitely underrated in his discography. whens ghost pop
please... he doesnt need to react to that.
I know you love Peggy. And I know you seemed to love the Billy Woods album "maps"
So I think you should give Armand Hammer's newest album a listen. It's Billy Woods and Elucid. And a 3 tracks are produced by Jpegmafia.
Danny Brown is incredibly consistent
Many think it's Danny's most wholesome and positive project, but actually this is a really dark/disturbing album if you know the story behind it. Again! One of my favorite projects recently or just in general. You are still on a roll!
Nice!!! Excited! I loved the new album, heard it a few times already since this morning.
I’d love for you to hear some Slauson Malone 1 as you saw he produced Shine. His new album Excelsior is a journey and a new step in his career in singer-songwriting and his classic experimentation
SLAUSON MALONE AND STANDING ON THE CORNER MENTIONED
This is my go-to Danny album…so much about this album is amazing.
Would love to see you check out some Slowthai 🍻
He actually did react to UGLY, but it got blocked. The review/thoughts on is still up
Good looks!!
Negro Spiritual is my favorite song off this album. It was a sign of things to come in 2023, 4 years earlier. Even when it came out we all wanted a jpeg and Danny collab to happen. So glad it did. Not to mention the song goes hard and its just a combination of amazing artists coming together
MIKE - Burning Desire, AOTY imo
Good one BOB!!!
The Hybrid album is the ultimate Danny Brown I can’t find it on Apple Music anymore
thanks for checking this one out bob :)
i like these long reactions that take time to understand the album
this is quite handily my second favorite Danny Brown album, only behind atrocity exhibition
Revisiting this one today I remember when this one came out. Everything on this album is pure comedy and raw shit probably my favourite Danny brown solo album
Paul White made the majority of beats on Atrocity Exhibition, including Aint It Funny. And Savage Nomad was made by the same guy who did Lost
We’re all alone in this together - Dave
I really love the easy going jazzy loopy sound of this album, and the stand up comedy-ish bars is something I wish another artist would attempt! I think it’s a refreshing take on rap.

Love this album solid 9/10 for me super underrated imo
Belly Of The Beast easily top 10 wackiest danny tracks, can't believe it's real to this day
You should do Old by Danny sometime! Very crazy production and great rapping by Danny. Might be my favorite project of his lowkey
I just finished listening to Quaranta this is such perfect timing bob
Bob blessing up with the surprise double header bro LESGO
The “Dirty Laundry” beat would fit pretty well on the last Tribe record, especially the intro of the beat
truly a classic album of this generation
Fields and 30 are my favourite Tracks too..❤
fun fact thundercat was the bass for Negro Spiritual (since flylo produced) also NEED Bob to check out Captain Murphy Duality mixtape and lose his mind (its flying lotus when he raps)
Lol I was just listening to this at work
Bob if you liked Theme Song (prob one of my fave Danny songs as well) you need to check out his album with Detroit producer Black Milk who's also super underrated. Very similar sound , dark beats, and a more serious/focused Danny as you put it!
btw this whole album was executive produced by q-tip!!
Great stuff Bob, thank you.
This might be my favorite Danny album !
Obongjayar is one of the most interesting Nigerian musicians active now. I highly recommend his album "Some Nights I Dream of Doors" to anyone reading this comment.
You’ve heard Obongjayar before on Sometimes I might be Introvert by Little Simz. He’s a super interesting artist might be worth checking out.
Dirty Laundry was a single and I’m glad you were just as confused on your first listen
this record is so good
Jpeg giving you his best Pharrell impression in negro spiritual lol.. or snagglepuss
Took me way too long to get the line “I’ll die for this shit like Elvis” 😂
Yo bobby if you want to hear more Jpegmafia production you should check out We Buy Diabetic Test Strips by Armand Hammer. Armand Hammer is the duo of billy woods and Elucid. I'm sure you would be into it, it's got trippy ass production and bars for days lol.
Plastic Beach Gorillaz? Would love to see your reaction that album.
DO "BLACK AND BROWN" by Danny Brown. That's a banger of an album.
Hey Bob, you gotta check out the song “Grown Up” by Danny Brown.
Just check it out on your own sometime, it’s a great track.
Yeah, that's probably my favorite track by him. Think Bob will appreciate the saneness of it.
His best song imo
he already listened to that track. He said its one of his favorites

Another danny brown album 😐
he wasn't able to promote it as much as other projects because of Covid and the lockdowns etc.. so no album tour which was a bit sad because this album has some gems on it
