    as a Kendo person, this looks so familiar with the gear, yet it is so different in the fighting style

    This looks very interesting, I follow Kendo, but this reminds me of Naginata, just slightly different, and a different target

    Actually, Japanese spears had a wide variety of what they called ishizuki; hard pommels of various shapes used as bludgeons. They are also absent in atarashii naginata, for some reason.

    Really surprised they do not use the buttstroke at all. Especially when they clinch up, it would be very easy to just push your right hand around like a hook punch and put the buttstroke into the opponent's head. I guess it has something to do with jukendo being based on sojutsu.

    @cobramgh I think you might be right with that one.

    @cobramgh You are right... Is it against the rule of Jukendo?

  • @cobramgh
    @cobramgh 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @AndikaHargianto I'm almost certain it is, otherwise it makes no sense that two world champion level combatants are not using it. I'm sure it's because of the sport aspect, to "balance" the game and "clean up" the savagery of actual fighting.

    Kendo World, is it possible to cut with the bayonet? The sword bayonet for the arisaka rifle does have a cutting edge right?

    • @matthewpham9525
      @matthewpham9525 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the only way to score in jukendo is vía the point. I don’t know for Arisaka Type 30 bayonets exact, but many western bayonets were issued blunt for durability. Jukendo might also be based off of older spike bayonets.

    • @thecomradered
      @thecomradered 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Pham the type 30 is a sword bayonet and has a cutting edge on it as it’s essentially a mini sword. As it was in use up till the end of the Second World War, and jukendo started out during Japan’s colonial period (when they started taking territories in China), their troops likely trained to use this bayonet.

      Sword bayonets included were often blunt in the West, it's not unlikely this was the case in Japan as well. Besides that, jukendo has its origins in French bayonet fighting. Since French bayonets of the period were spikes, this could be a carryover.

    @ZWIPPMANN Its a traditional/cultural thing. It supposedly started because the Japanese would take off their shoes to keep the floor clean. Its common these days that you take your shoes off and put another pair of gym shoes on when you enter.
    But anyway, dress shoes arnt allowed on that area as it scuffs the floor.
    And why socks? have you ever seen someone in a suit with barefeet? :)

  • @ZWIPPMANN
    @ZWIPPMANN 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @imjustmakingthisstup That's like saying basketball players should wear only socks,
    that way they can keep the floor clean.
    Don't you think it's stupid? besides nobody goes to duel wearing only socks.

    I practise jodo (10th kyu at the moment) and I'm very interested in this budo. Too bad that the place closest to Helsinki (my hometown) where practising Jukendo is possible is Sapcote, UK =_=...

    「銃床」も「斬り」も使えない「突き」だけの銃剣道…。これじゃ銃剣ではないし銃剣である必要性がない。
    銃剣道連盟は何を考えているんだ?競技武道としてルールを改正する必要がある。
    こんな競技ではフェンシングや薙刀をやっている人達に本物の銃剣扱わせた方がずっと上手いよ。
