Every time I see your backpacks old school color it reminds me of the first backpack I bought about 52 years ago. A Kelty aluminum external frame backpack that was the same color. Back then Kelty was THE premier backpack. It served me well and I still have it but haven't used it for decades due to the newer, and more comfortable backpacks. Used it in the Sierras and many other areas including a 6 month hitchhiking/backpacking trip through Canada 50 years ago. Thanks for sharing your trip and for bringing back some memories.
Well done with the 22 miles! 😀👍 At this point you were 1 day ahead of the Codgers (YT channel: Hiking with the Codgers), which are fun to follow, and they rock it as well 🤓They were neroing at Red Meadows and planning to zero at Mammoth, so I don't think you guys will cross trails (they are going to bail out at Bishop pass, they were doing the heavy snow section they missed last year, from about Quincy, soboing). Also they are filming with their iphones, so it's nice to see your pass with the gopro and the stick mount, the quality is infinitely better, with views and stuff. Ah, I was hoping you would get on the top of Devils Postpile: the glaciers have polished the surface of the lava flow, and the result is quite astonishing... I guess I will have to get there myself 😄 Cheers 🌞
Oh cool, I didn't know that they had come back out as well! Glad that they too made the effort to return, and I hope that their delayed embarkation has afforded them the reprieve they sought!
Beautiful- the photography seemed especially crisp today. I’d never seen or heard of anything like the rock formations at Devils Postpiles - that’s fascinating! Thanks for showing the printed explanation. What an incredible sight!
VVR has great food and amenities, as well as friendly staff. The year we were there the shuttle was not running due to the low level of the lake. Enjoy your stay.
We came in over Mammoth Pass this year so you’re now on our trail from this year. We came into the PCT on the first day after flying down and just got to the trail. Day 2 was to Virginia Lake. We had a nice break at Purple Lake. Nice stop!
Nice👍👍!
another day of awesome views thanks so much for sharing

Haha, Awesome!! Kelty is still around, but you're right to observe that they may have slipped from their former king status!

Very cool, glad to bring you right back out there! Purple lake and Virginia Lake are both fantastic-- well selected stoppages!!
