Hard to argue while listening to this....but to be fair, Simon and Garfunkel exist....so.....I might have to put those two at the top of the list, even though there's probably not a whole lot of crossover between Simon & Garfunkel fans with Alice in Chains.
It’s beautiful to listen to and couldn’t be done better by them but cmon enough of the best stuff It’s silly to say that. Jerry would likely laugh at that
The double tracking and the inverse motion. Layne goes down, Jerry goes up and vice versa. A very old musical idea but holy shit does that type of harmony it sound amazing with their melodies
The impressive thing: that lowest note is a Bb2, the legendary note from "Bleed the Freak". It's not unusual for a tenor or a baritone to hit that note, but to hit it with that kind of power is incredible. I love the fact that Layne encouraged Jerry to sing and got him going in that vein. Without his humility, we wouldn't have this beautiful music.
proof that jerry cantrell is the most important member of the band. 2 good bassists, a perfect drummer, an iconic vocalist, and the most underrated guitarist/backing singer of all time.
Of course it was his bone chilling howls..in person he was shy, quite and behind the mic he was the best frontman ever..And your crazy if you think anything different.

One of my favorite things about the band. Their harmonies were a big part of their sound and helped set them apart from their peers and the slew of bands that wanted to sound like them in the late 90's/early 2000's and all failed. Jerry has a high school choir background and sang in quartets in acappella competitions. He's talked about singing really dark music like 14th century Gregorian chants and other classical pieces back then, and also growing up as a fan of classic rock bands like the Who, Beatles, and Eagles who used a lot of harmonies and multiple voices in their music. Layne obviously had a good ear for it too. The two of them just clicked on this stuff.
The harmony and chemistry these two had together was immeasurable. Seriously the greatest faction in the grunge/punk rock era and to this day. Rip Layne.
And if we change, well I love you anyway. Everyday it's something Hits me all so cold. Find me sitting by myself No excuses, then I know. Fuck! If that doesn't give you the chills in 2017 nothing will

Studio trickery and pitch correction were definitely around. Hell, this song itself has effects on the whole vocal track. And I can guarantee you that almost every recording you hear with modern tech is pitch corrected, this included.
I had no idea there were three separate voice tracks in the chorus: Jerry, Layne, and then another much higher pitched voice. Who is that? Sounds awesome.
+SurfingBullDog Definitely Layne doubled. Jerry can't go that high, and the timbre is very telling. Pay attention to the vibrato at the end of the phrase - total Layne.
The harmony. Layne's and Jerry's vocals were so perfect for each other.
That ending part sends chills up my spine.
like peanut butter & jelly
Like Chinese food and chocolate pudding.
It’s like they were made for each other 😪
I think you mean layne, layne, layne, and Jerry. Layne is at least triple stacked the whole song
Best harmonising duo in history.
lennon and mccartney are also up there
The reason I'm here is exactly that. Who was better in Rock and roll. John and Paul. Or Jerry and Layne. Still haven't found the answer
Hard to argue while listening to this....but to be fair, Simon and Garfunkel exist....so.....I might have to put those two at the top of the list, even though there's probably not a whole lot of crossover between Simon & Garfunkel fans with Alice in Chains.
They are dark Lennon and McCartney
It’s beautiful to listen to and couldn’t be done better by them but cmon enough of the best stuff It’s silly to say that. Jerry would likely laugh at that
It's only just hit me after 38 years. Alice in Chains were a barbershop quartet masquerading as a grunge band.
Man...
Absolutely a duo
Barbershop DUET
Holy shit, that vocal harmony at :38-:40 is next level. I would buy a box set of every AIC song done like this. RIP Layne.
okkkkkkkkkkkkkk ok ok ok
Layne always double tracked his own vocals, one clean, one dirty. Then add Jerry on top of that and it's a pretty amazing sound.
Makes his beautifully unique voice even more unique. What a great process. Fuck autotune
The double tracking and the inverse motion. Layne goes down, Jerry goes up and vice versa. A very old musical idea but holy shit does that type of harmony it sound amazing with their melodies
They're kinda like the beach boys of grunge as far as harmonizing. Love their voices together.
They’re like them. But just better.
my favorite harmony duo ever
This is downright hymnal. I would love to see a full choir perform this
When you sing THIS WELL without any musical accompaniment, you know you're doing it right. Unbelievable.
Dude Jerry’s lower harmony @0:41 is gold.
Masterful harmonizing. Chills, man, chills.
Wow...
First time listening to the song this way, they didn't need any music for this one.
I think there's a few more knocking around TH-cam. I'm sure Man I'm The Box is available.
They should just release an album with ONLY vocal tracks....I'd buy the shit out of that album!
proof that jerry cantrell is the most important member of the band. 2 good bassists, a perfect drummer, an iconic vocalist, and the most underrated guitarist/backing singer of all time.
xsonicassassinx Jerry Cantrell is not underrated.
Yes, but Layne stole the show.
Of course it was his bone chilling howls..in person he was shy, quite and behind the mic he was the best frontman ever..And your crazy if you think anything different.
xsonicassassinx you got that right the greatest of all time Mr. Jerry Cantrell
@@DaveTaste he is
LAYNE AND JERRY WERE PURE GOLD TOGETHER!!
This sound is truly one of the seven wonders of the world.

It's "no excuses that i know" (sorry not to be that person lol)
Wow!! Their voices compliments each other so well that I can't tell whose who!
One of my favorite things about the band. Their harmonies were a big part of their sound and helped set them apart from their peers and the slew of bands that wanted to sound like them in the late 90's/early 2000's and all failed.

Layne obviously had a good ear for it too. The two of them just clicked on this stuff.
John Mayer raved about this song on his SiriusXM channel last night - what a gorgeous vocal
As many times as I've heard this song, I had no idea there were that many vocal tracks in the chorus. This is amazing!
The harmony and chemistry these two had together was immeasurable. Seriously the greatest faction in the grunge/punk rock era and to this day. Rip Layne.
I never really noticed the third harmony during the chorus.
its the subtle trick that makes it perfect
This is tied for my favorite AIC song. This isolated vocals track is pure bliss. It sounds like warm honey with a dash of whiskey.
This is beautiful man. I cant stop smiling.
Incredible.....Layne and Jerry could have entertained the masses acapella! :)
Astonishing. Beautiful. The connection between Earth and Heaven, between being alive and the posibility to let the spirit fly at the same time!
15-year-old kids: this is REAL MUSIC.
I know man it really is. (A 15 year old lmao)
Well it is
I'm 14, and this is real music 💪
Can't stand new popular music
Been listening to this music all my life
YO SAME!
15 years in 2024… and lowkey this music is amazing.
I love listening to the vocal only tracks to hear Layne and others hey after it, but this is the most perfect one of ever heard, AMaZING!
Love how Layne drops the note at :32, and through out.
Simply put, the greatest harmony the world of rock music has ever, or will ever know
Damn...will always be the best! Rest In Peace Layne.
Wow, jerry's voice sounds so powerful
This put a smile on my face.
incredible harmonies...
What a singer Layne was.
This is brilliant. I'd love to hear just Layne's voice too.
What a loss to music. I'm so glad I got to see them twice with Layne. I always loved their vocal harmonies.
May I ask what year?
26th or 28th of February 1993 - London Town & Country Club, Headline. 25th or 26th of March 1991 - Hammersmith Odeon London supporting Megadeth.
Crinklechips Would have loved to see them during the Dirt era.
I love them in harmony of COURSE, but it’s weird not listening to this without Jerry’s gorgeous guitar
And if we change, well I love you anyway.
Everyday it's something
Hits me all so cold.
Find me sitting by myself
No excuses, then I know.
Fuck! If that doesn't give you the chills in 2017 nothing will
I can cry when i hear this shit,
fucking aic, best band ever
So beautiful!
Fucking flawless
The most beautiful song
Such a simple song, but what a melody!
... unique sound...
Welp, this just became my morning work alarm. Thank you!
It's like a grunge S&G, their dual vocals just carry you away...
No worries. I can't remember where I got it from, but it was years ago. I've got no channel to grow whatsoever, I think this is the on here
They're even good as CSN&Y! Wonderful!
This is exactly what I was looking for!
Perfection.

I love their voices omg
Miss you Mr Staley
Thanks to Columbia House I got this CD for free.
AWESOME! Thanks for posting this!
0 DISLIKES! THATS RIGHT!
So beautiful
Awesome. And no auto-tuning needed.
A vocal only album...good idea! i'd buy that and live off it!!!
Where the hell did this come from?!?! Amazing doesnt even give it justice...
There is suddenly a lot of isolated vocal tracks out. I been mostly listening to Chris Cornell.
Whoever did it managed to isolate the vocals from the track. After all, this song was on Guita Hero: Metallica.
so wonderful, magical, flawless, amazing... shit, I´m drifting now
Just play this at my funeral.
I miss the 90's and Layne...
This shit gives me chills. So awesome.
aic dual vocals magic
layne staley had the best vocals I heard.
This ❤
SWEEEEEEET !! ALICE STALEY
I love you for posting this.. Where did it come from? And is there more that hasn't made it to youtube?... Need more!!!
I'm begging you to do the vocals only version of GOT ME WRONG...🙏
Adorabile.
Alice... 4 ever!
Perfeito, simplesmente perfeito
Slight flat n vibrato at 2:14. Every human that has heard this knows it without knowing it.
Stupid question. Layne is high part, right?
nice
Don/Phil Everly
Lennon/McCartney
Simon/Garfunkel
...
Staley/Cantrell
I think Layne Staley was one of the best vocalists in history there was just not given the importance such as Freddy Mercury.
deffo man they werent as big and long lasting!
Sublime
AMAZING
how i miss the real AIC
nice!!
talking about an amazing 2 mins and 43 seconds listen to this on the peek of a mescaline trip. ✌🌈💘
I totally agree
very nice
Can you do Nutshell next?
Rod Braman yeah please
WOW
lol oops I ment to put 34 not 43
glorioso le queda corto

Aydogan Mehmet maybe true, but listen to the live versions. Their vocals are still very good
@@GuyNamedSean I doubt it can be done on analog recordings
Anyone else have the guitar part going in their head?
1:10

I believe it's Jerry doubled
I wanna say it's Layne doubled
+SurfingBullDog Definitely Layne doubled. Jerry can't go that high, and the timbre is very telling. Pay attention to the vibrato at the end of the phrase - total Layne.
It's Layne singing the high pitched
Sounds like they were both doubled.
could you do the same with love hate love ?
Who's on the high notes and who's on low notes?
3 tracks I think. Layne on both high and low, Jerry on the other low.
@@DaveTaste Yes, except 0:34 1:24 2:15 I think it's Layne on all three for a few seconds.
love layne but Jerry's vocals are my favorites
