Uki-waza and Yoko-otoshi are my favorite sutemi-waza. The flow of execution is non-telegraphic and transitions smoothly to Osaekomi. As always, Riki-sensei's demonstration of the combat application and the defense to this technique increase the dimensions of this waza beyond the realm of sport. Domo arigato! 🥋 😃
You said to place the toe of the extended leg on the mat and raise the heel off the matt. Am I in danger of breaking my toes when I slide that leg out and put my toes on the mat? I would especially worry about my pinky toe. Thank you for the video, wonderful instruction!
Thank you for your question. I understand your valid concern, but there is always a risk. Try just putting the side of your foot on the mat and ensure placing the crook of your knee on the side of your partner’s ankle. Riki yori
Yes. We have numerous video tutorials on Osaekomiwaza, Shimewaza and Kansetsuwaza. Newaza are an integral part of class/practice several times a week. Transitioning from Nagewaza into Newaza is a critical part waza flow. Riki yori
Excellent explanation.
Thanks Rex!
