    Yoshi-P is a treasure. After gamescom (where you already could talk with him if you found him in one of his many smoking breaks) there was an FF14 fanevent in a club. He just left because the DJ played music too loud and he couldnt do what he was most interested in: Talking with the players.
    Absolute legend

      Oh, I think I was at the same event. We got so excited when the lottery picked us, given how much people hyped up previous fan meetups, but the event was a major letdown.
      And the DJ barely played any FF music! That's the one thing they should've done and they just didn't!

    This video really uplifted me today. Yoshi-P has been scammed in game like us. He's been misunderstood or mistaken for something in game like us. He's struggled with balancing life needs and obsessions like us. He has stage fright like many of us. He has other rational and irrational fears like us. As long as a leader remembers the roots of his journey and the people beneath him still in those stages, he will keep his heart and ward off the corruption of power and money.

      Can confirm ever since losing my sister I am ready to cry at a lottttt of things; movies and tv shows, news, TH-cam videos, comments. I recently cried when I read a TH-cam comment from a guy who was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness and is recovering emotionally from the passing of his pet wolf, wishing I could help heal his sorrow, not that there’s much a random stranger like me can do but I still felt in my heart that I desperately wanted to help. honestly, his background in MMOs (and the arguably unhealthy lengths he would go to play them) speaks so much to his overall philosophy with FFXIV. He's seen about as much as one person could reasonably be expected to see within the genre, from more or less the beginning. Years of experiences, positive and negative, have influenced every decision he's made with the game.

      People can question 'why' on XIV's design all they want. They can understand 'why' if they consider this man has been there, done that, not only in XIV, but other MMOs. What he gives us is the greatest care package ever.

    • @petriew2018
      @petriew2018 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      i think the biggest thing he took away from it is that you don't need to trick players into playing a game with time gating and gimmicks. A good game is a draw in and of itself.

    My favorite Yoshi-P story is from an interview he did. When talking about why they were working to gender unlock a bunch of outfits Yoshi talked about acceptance and wanting players to be able to make their characters representations of them. He told a story of how he was on his way to work one day, and he saw a non conforming high school student wearing a female uniform. He noticed a mother and child and how the mother reacted, shielding their child from seeing the high schooler whom she deemed wrong. And how that made him upset, that the woman got so offended over someone just expressing themselves the way they wished.

      @johnwong5317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      My 10+ years of reading LN and some Tek talk got me to understand expressing yourself is hard, but once you are wealthy and powerful enough, whatever you wear will have others people to copy you.
      That's why one of the Tek Talk mention about "Follow Fashion" and said that if you follow trending fashion, you will always be behind since the people who created the trend will always be ahead with a big group following them and most people are way way in the back.

    I really appreciate this video. I remember feeling a bit disappointed while watching a lot of the media tour interviews because Yoshi-P always started them with "feel free to ask about anything, whether ffxiv, games in general, or personal stuff," but of course most of the conversations revolved around xiv. I wanted to know more about endwalker too, but it'd have been nice if someone just asked something like, have you read any good books recently? Or what do you think about the way certain concepts have developed since appearing in things like Ghost in the Shell and the Matrix? I think this video has that kind of chill energy, and I'd love to see more like it!

Yoshi-P is clearly inspired by and thinks about so many different things, so I think it would be cool to see him get a chance to just talk freely without having to measure his words to make sure he doesn't let anything slip that they aren't yet ready to share.

    The "P" of Yoshi-P stands for "Producer" as in he is the main producer or rather director of a project. It is a common addition in Japanese entertainment to add next to their name to show that they are the producer of a piece of entertainment, be it a manager of and idol, or producer of songs (especially ones the make Vocaloid songs), as well as other things.

  • @shiroikami2690
    @shiroikami2690 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    YoshiP is definitely something special. He's held on to his heart as a gamer, and continues to work hard to fulfill the promises he makes to his players. He also takes a very unique long-term view of and direct hand in, not just the development of the games he works on, but to their marketing as well. He refuses to bend to corporate meddling when it's something that really matters, like burning the original 1.0 version of the game or suspending sales due to server overload and no short-term fix available. On top of that, he has a way of accepting all blame when things go wrong without making excuses, while ensuring that the teams or team members who create content that the players particularly love are given appropriate recognition for their hard work.
    Yes, he's human with human faults and failings, but the community loves him because of everything he has done and continues to do, not because he's perfect.

      He did write a book about how he became so successful, it that isn't inspirational and need step by step those game designers are lost hopes.
      TLDR: play MMO, while designing, that's what makes your MMO an amazing MMO, but thats not all, once the patch rolls out, you must be among the players...grnding...farming...
      not just you.........but your coworkers...............
      (One of environment game designers and raid designers went to play FFXIV one day when they were horrified to find green leaf new noobie players in Iddylshire, back then that was the endgame plaza... and Alexander being the hardest (savage)..........they quickly had to change the raid content, since that was the endgame........and poor green leaf players........had no idea what they were getting themselves into..........XD I still crack up at this story)

Dude was so engaged and passionated in our conversation that me and my friend felt like the language barrier wasn’t even a problem. When we had to leave, he thanked us in Japanese and English, I absolutely love this man to this day

    Cool video. Love to see more of this
    And maybe not just from him but also other interesting figures who happen to be open enough to find this information (though i admit that last part reduces the amount of people fit for this type of content massively)
    On a very separate note.
    Kinda looks like this channel already needs a rebrand to " Final bellular" or something "Bellular Fantasy" is another option but that sounds like a channel on a members only channel :p

    You MUST make a part 2. Actually as a series format this would be very interesting. Theres a ton of interesting game directors/producers that could be made into interesting videos. Not sure how well it fits into the TH-cam crowd and algorythm though. One can dream.

    I'd love to see a video going more into his career as a director. Not what he has done, but what his day to day operations are like. Really try to understand how a man who has become a legend actually influences the development team to create a game beloved by so many.

      I mean that's exactly what happened to XII. The project was getting to big and out of control, that people started quitting the team and he ultimately had a mental breakdown and had to leave the project himself.

      @@smward87 Wow, I wondered what happened there. FF12 still one of my favorites, though I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, and playing it, it's obvious that the end of the game is kind of a mess. That makes sense now.

    I got my eyes lasered years ago and honestly apart from a very painfull two days I have no regrets. It's great now to not have to wear glasses or lenses. The only downside is that your eyes still change so for a while you'll be in the - until you get near sighted later in life. That and the constant eye drops when you feel like you're eyes aren't lubricated enough or you want to see very sharp details.

    For most of my life there are few people I can say I looked up to, aspired to be or deemed a hero.
    Yoshi-P is one such person however, through transparency and his efforts to make 14 what it is, he has earned the respect and trust of the players.
    It is for this reason, I am excited for ff16, the first "AAA" game release in a long time that I'm actually excited for.

    My eyesight was very bad, I couldn’t see 10 inches away from my face. I talked through my fears if Lasik with my doctor and chose a doctor that wasn’t the cheapest by any means, but had done tens of thousands of lasik surgeries and also does way more complicated things like cornea transplants for people with eye injuries (did you know contacts can cause all kinds of problems?). I took the advice to heart that you should choose a doctor for whom Lasik is the simplest thing he/she does. I’m extremely happy with my results now over 1 year later and amazed that I can just wake up and see after wearing glasses for as long as I can remember. All my friends with glasses got it done as well, and all of them highly recommends it.

    People like Yoshi P are what makes games great. Blizzard used to be full of men like him. But now everyone is just going through the motions to collect the paychecks.
