    I was lucky enough to crew on The Fall Guy for all 5 months of the shoot and I can say that Logan (Ryan's stunt driver double) was one of the loveliest guys on set. He was cool enough to chat with me quite a few times, mostly about the differences in traffic between Sydney and LA, then about what it's like to prepare for a stunt where you drive a car across a huge ravine with no safety net. As the shoot was wrapping up he managed to give me a stunt department shirt which I wear all the time. A lot of cool people worked on this movie.

    • @jishan6992
      @jishan6992 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Did you get to meet the actors? Or the actors are absent from the set when the stunt guys are on it and vice versa?

    • @TomahawkTrollstin
      @TomahawkTrollstin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @@jishan6992 Usually if we were doing a big stunt the actors wouldn't be required on set (a lot of the time the stunts were being shot on a second unit while the main unit shot other scenes that included the big stars). However, when the car jumped over the ravine all the crew were there watching - including Ryan - who was one of the first people to go over to Logan (the stunt driving double for Ryan) and congratulate him on pulling off the jump.

      TH-cam started recommending other "react content" when I kept clicking on this series, and I've had to hit "Not Interested" on them all like a thousand times for the Algorithm to finally catch a hint that these are not at all the same.

      Because the original they react to joins in, but that's also because they're already one of original when they're making the reacts.

      That's because it's not react content, it's an interview. React content begins and ends when the thing they're reacting to ends, with no actual engagement with the material beyond fleeting thoughts.

      I doubt it would be considered hyperbole to say that the time spent turning western stars into action heroes, who are clearly doing their own work, has absolutely changed the entire industry as far as cuts and cinematography. The flawless flow of the John Wick club scene would have been completely unfathomable a decade prior.

    They could have not had a better director than David Leitch honestly, like a Stuntman turned movie director making a movie and telling a story about a man who does Stunts for a living, and all the things they go through but are rarely seen. It's a really great movie and was actually kinda moving in a way seeing how much love and appreciation the movie has for the stunt community.

    At this point I start to believe, that the only reason you guys havent done Dune 2 react yet, is that you are waiting for Dany Villeneuv himself to get comfortable on the couch.
    Ok, I will not change the spelling so that people can see what this s about. But I have two points to add, becouse I want this discussion out of my notifications.
    1. English is NOT my native languege. I bet half of you couldn't write my name if I told you, and the other half couldn't read it if you saw it. And it is ok. This is not your fault.
    2. In my languege letters have function, each letter always sounds the same no matter of etymology. English spelling on the other hand is bullshit. If the word "miracles" was greek it would read like "Heracles".
    For me he is Дені Вільньов. It would be read and written the same was he french, english or martian. I did not consider to look up his biography in order to write his name. To every one who had to suffer trought my misspelling I profoundly apologize.

    David leitch is such a good director. Whilst his movies arent exactly oscar worthy (until theres a stunts category), they find such a good line between comedy and action that rarely disappoints. His journey to being a director is so interesting. Thanks for having him on

    • @Tigermaster1986
      @Tigermaster1986 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Tbh, I think his movies (apart from "Hobbs and Shaw", which I didn't like very much) very much are Oscar-worthy, when it comes to camera work, editing and sound design.
      Plus, he is like a modern day Richard Donner, with his excellent sense of pacing and his ability to blend extreme comedy with action.
      I want him to direct the upcoming movie about Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase. If you've read the books, you'll know why.
      Also, if you want to see how everything started, watch Sammo Hung's "Martial Law" - David Leitch's career started there. His character was very funny.

      The Matrix wasn't green lit because of Keanu and the other actors in consideration might've done a good enough job for the movie to still be a hit. It's not like it was riding on great acting for it's success. Leitch and the stunt team were already on a path of training actors to do their own fight scenes.
      Keanu is great, but the credit for both of those movies should go to the Watchowskis and Leitch

      @@Ishai1 However, Yuen Woo-Ping is the one who made it a condition that all the actors had to undergo a training camp during Matrix 1, which was unheard of in the (Western) entertainment industry at the time.
      And in 2013, when Keanu Reeves (GOAT) directed Man of Tai Chi to honor his friend Tiger Chen from Yuen Woo--Ping's team, both he and Chad Stahelski were reminded of how to use a stunt crew to do movies. This happened less than a year before John Wick 1 came out. And the fact that Reeves and Stahelski hadn't done anything of significance regarding action for a 10 year period, only reinforces the idea that they learned from Yuen Woo-Ping.

      My daughter's horse riding lessons are just across the road from the area where they filmed the helicopter scene. Her horse did NOT like the helicopter being moved around on the crane during the lesson. The staff at the stables said they'd been really struggling to keep the horses from spooking the evening before due to some mini-explosions in something that was being filmed, but they all came out of it okay in the end. My daughter has been pretty curious about the movie since then so we'll probably check it out this weekend.

      How do you figure that traffick cost the economy millions

    • @ChrisMcCarroll
      @ChrisMcCarroll 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Alex-zi1nb Bad traffic can significantly impact the economy for several reasons:
      Lost Productivity: Time spent in traffic is time not spent working. Commuters stuck in traffic cannot contribute to economic activities, leading to reduced overall productivity.
      Increased Fuel Consumption: Vehicles idling or moving slowly consume more fuel, increasing costs for both individuals and businesses. This also leads to greater fuel imports, affecting the national trade balance.
      Higher Operational Costs for Businesses: Delivery delays and increased travel time for employees can raise operational costs. Businesses may need to compensate for delays by hiring more drivers or paying overtime.
      Environmental Impact: Traffic congestion leads to higher emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases, contributing to environmental degradation. This can result in health costs and necessitate spending on pollution control and mitigation measures.
      Health Costs: Prolonged exposure to traffic congestion can lead to stress and health issues for commuters, increasing healthcare costs and potentially reducing workforce productivity due to illness.
      Infrastructure Wear and Tear: Constant traffic can accelerate the wear and tear on roads and bridges, leading to higher maintenance and repair costs for government agencies.
      Opportunity Costs: The time and resources lost due to traffic could have been used for other productive activities, leading to an opportunity cost that affects economic growth.
      Overall, the cumulative effect of these factors can be substantial, leading to a significant economic burden.

      No, he didn't. The films have a vaguely similar premise and that's where the similarities end. If you were to watch the movies back to back you wouldn't feel like Reservoir Dogs "totally ripped it off" because they have totally different tones and feels.

      @@RSpracticalshooting look you don't need to suck off QT in youtube comments. He ripped it off. The story is pretty much identical, he just reordered scenes and changed some details, but the plot beats and characters are all pretty much there. I love QT and his movies, but he still copied it. And like OP said, in HK films, ripping off another film/director was like standard practice throughout the 60s-90s and led to some amazing gems. Hell, Ringo himself copied Point Blank to make Full Contact, which is arguably his best movie (to me at least).

      Again, watch them back to back. You won't be able to honestly say Reservoir Dogs is the same movie.

    Fall Guy was freakin' amazing. I hope we can get David back on the couch post-cinema and talk about some of the other stunts. The extended Miami Vice boat sequence was such an awesome take on an old school show & stunt style! And the little setups throughout the movie for stunts that are about to follow are genius for showing how the mind of a stuntman works.

    Thank you for honoring these amazing men and women. The Oscars need a Stunt category like NOW. I did a tv series for a few years and my stunt double was just incredible ( she went on to be a well known coordinator) and my favorite thing was watching her learn my walk and just the way I moved. There is so much that’s unsung that goes into stunt work. I was proud to get an “ honorary” stunt card because I had to learn to really drive and do stunt work with horses. I’m rambling… just can’t say enough about stunt performers. You all rock. P S so cool that you let the stunts play out and didn’t cut into them too much.

    Ringo Lam did practical Bullet Time effects in his 1992 movie "Full Contact". There are multiple shots in the movie where the camera flies behind the bullet right into the face of somebody, and when I say INTO the face I mean that literally. It's edited in such a way that it feels like you fly right through their flesh.
