- First, about the quality. This is a 12 year old VHS transfered to DVD then rendered to computer. The quality isn't top notch, but under the circumstances.....
This is a monologue from Mad TV season 1 where "Kids in the hall"'s own Dave Foley explains what Americans don't know about Canada. Enjoy. - ตลก
the perfect mixture of Self-depricating and passive aggressive, pretty much summarizes Canadian humour
We’re also self-deprecating
Yeah, with juuust enough Eldritch/Existential Horror.
"In Canada, we're ruled by a small boy with supernatural powers."
Now I see why the main character in Akira is called Kaneda.
+octotartine Twilight Zone reference, episode "It's a Good Life"
Yes! The one with a very young Billy Mummy who wishes people "into the cornfield" if they displease him in anyway, and no one can do away with him because he can read thoughts! One of my favorite episodes of the show!
octotartine that is actually a reference to a twilight zone episode
oh....and here i thought he was talking about justin trudeau & planking....
Zing!
I’m a Huge Fan of Dave Foley he’s one of best comedic actors since The Kids in the Hall and NewsRadio I really like him he really means a lot to me
I always liked him too.
Since?
@@jonhohensee3258 since I was 9 years old old
I love how the temperature he gave is LOWER than absolute zero.
Not everybody knows the standard value for the absolute zero, but he is not too far off.
@@ruishianbo I am going to autoinseminate myself.
@@louistournas120 you mean you havent already?
CAN'T.....TYPE.....HAVE.....TO.....GRAB.....TREE.....
Haha that’s funnnnny!
The VHS tracking kinda gives it that 'about to drift into another dimension' feel. Kind of oddly lends to all his talk of sulfer dioxide, zero gravity, extreme subzero temperatures, and being ruled by the twilight zone mind control child.
gave my serious nostalgia! :3
Sulfur dioxide. U, not an e babe.
@@vmelkon What about the Twinkie?
@@John_McDonnell I don't know. I am currently working on the Caramilk secret right now. Some hackers cut the power to my lab. How do they get the caramel in the Caramilk bar?
@@vmelkon How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? The world may never know...
Don't forget that in America, Rush is just a kickass rock band. In Canada it's the state religion.
Rush blows.
chinary8 All other bands away? Totally!
crescentfreshbret Saw them live once, best concert I've ever been to.
Chinary8 Must be a Helix fan...lmao
Rush is the Queen of Canada.
Dave's monologues are the best
The VCR tracking brought back a lot of fond memories. Thanks for the upload!!!
I started laughing just at the sight of the thumbnail of him with a coffee mug.
I watched the whole thing and didn't laugh at all. AND I am Canadian!
@@notthesame7778 Yeah, but you knew all this stuff already, so you didn't find it odd at all. It's just everyday life for you and me.
I hope that Grey Cup game ends soon. I made a twenty-dollar bet with a co-worker, and I retire next year. I figured that we'd already be on to the 1950 or even 1951 game by now.
@@keithmills778 Haha loved your comment, AND I laughed!!
i so miss the kids in the hall, by far the best sketch comedy show of all time...
I love how Dave is almost always drinking coffee during his monologues 😂
Big KITH fan from wabac. Literally have NEVER seen this. Thank you Magnes.
I love how the coffee is making him so jittery that he feels the need to constantly face a different camera
Coffee can't make Dave Foley jittery. Dave makes the coffee jittery.
Seems like Trey Parker and Matt Stone learned about Canada through Kids In The Hall.
In fact, it could have been as late as 96 (Mad TV debuted in autumn 95, so the first season stretches over 95-96). They were mentioning Foley (as they did with the others) was a member of KIds in the Hall because that's what people knew him for.
The voice of Flick in "A Bug's Life". Unreal lol
Thank you for loading this. First on my top 10 best TV moments ever is Dave's portrayal and presentation of Bob the private detective on "Hot in Cleveland". I have been re-watching his episodes and fall on the floor lmao at his scenes. Pure Gold!
this is hysterical.
laughed so hard when 1st seen on madtv, been wanting to see it again forever.
thanks for posting.
Dave Foley was the main character in a very underrated hilarious movie called "The Wrong Guy".
Thanks for uploading this! I hadn't seen this one before.....nothing quite like a Dave Foley monologue!
The communism one is great.
Another great monologue by Dave Foley
thank you! these finds are the BEST of Kids in the Hall
Still the favorite Dave I know...I know.
Precious is a great word to describe him. Such an angelface!
I miss these guys...
I like how he says they use the metric system, but then gives the dimensions of a CFL field in imperial units.
culwin bc he's talking to Americans and he knows they dont understand the metric system.
culwin he was speaking to Americans on an American tv show we don't understand metric and wouldn't get the joke if he did it in metric
The CFL field is still measured in Yds. It is only 110 yds long.
@@canaan5337 it was a Canadian TV show. It just aired in the USA first because it was initially banned in Canada, IIRC
@@happyfreeky
Mad TV was a Canadian show banned in its own country of origin? Is that your honest claim?
He guest starred on an episode and did a couple of sketches (as did Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, and Scott Thompson) with them.
Damn i miss this show thank u TH-cam
This is amazing, thank you for uploading it.
It was 1995 because that was the first season of Mad TV. They also had Bruce McCulloch, Scott Thompson, and Kevin McDonald make appearances similar to this one.
McDonald did "the monologue ideas the producers wouldn't let me do"
McCullouch did an offbeat random monologue where he made jokes out of what popped on the screen.
I use the metric system and today it is -8 C in Montreal. Yes, we do have a sulfur dioxide atmosphere and also, to keep warm, I throw a block of sulfur in the fireplace.
Dave is so fantastic as "Yes Man" in Fallout: New Vegas.
Thanks, Dave Foley, now I can't get "The Night Chicago Died" out of my head.
Hilarious. Haven’t heard it in so long. Time to download it!
of whom we're all very fond
Pure Gold!
He's so great
the quality's really not that bad. i love dave foley. he's so precious.
Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies. Those whom nature hath so joined together, let no man put asunder.
lol i just love dave foley!
I love this man! Dave's amazing😂😂😂
More relevant than ever.
“In Canada, we are ruled by a small boy with supernatural powers for whom we are all very fond of.”
I knew it. Little Anthony Fremont is in Canada.
Canada has universal health care because of the gravity only working 6 hours a day. This causes many injuries on a daily basis.
🎶"These are the Daves I know, I know... these are the Daves I know..."🎶
2:12 From a tape that is 25 years old (as of 2021)
OUCH! The health care bit still hurts.
this is amazing
This guy is so funny
That Universal Healthcare dig at the end still hits pretty hard.
Damn you Foley, you gave away all our secrets!!
Anyone remember Dave's line on KITH when asked if he's an American? "No, I'm Canadian. It's like an American, but without a gun". Yep, that's pretty much it.
I miss this show ..
Can confirm. Source: American, have lived in Canada for 15 years.
I just wish I could find my copy of Kevin McDonald's monologue, it was hilarious.
This is actually a MAD TV sketch featuring Dave.
I didn't realized until now how cute Dave Foley was.
@DrewBludd No problem. I had this on tape from when I was a kid and just finally was able to digitize it. Thanks for the comment.
YES MAN!
A classic from the early years of MAD TV. The first season produced many of these.
Wrong show.
@@jasonanderson7458 No, this is the madTV set, not Kids in the Hall. Dave was a guest in 1996 or 1997 or so, I'd say.
YES DAVE!!
This guy is also the voice of Flick from "A Bugs Life!" As well as Wayne from "Prep and Landing!"
I've lived in both countries, and I wholeheartedly agree.
The gravity here does work differently. Which is how we can store our milk in opened bags without it spilling out.
Lol, yes! Love Dave Foley :)
I didn't know about the gravity bit...
Dave Foley is voices of Flik, Wayne, Terry & Terri.
Brilliant.
I always felt there was something different about Dave. But Canadian?!?!?! We all have our battles.
love the coke sniffs between paragraphs
But what’s the temperature in Kelvin?
He was in one called "The Wrong Guy" which was hilarious
@Kimbahley
It's from Season 4 ('92-'93), the episode is called "Ricardo." I laughed so hard. Dave plays a Western tourist trying to eat his meal at a beach restaurant; Scott playing a Caucasian-looking "Filipino" shoeshine boy extorts American dollars from him.
How on earth have I never seen this before?????? I thought I'd seen every KITH sketch.
Obviously, I have been duped by my own knowledge. :D
at least we have universal health care.. that's about it eh.. lol.. this sketch was hilarious..
@WeSellSoul
As a Canadian who moved to the US in the third grade, I can assure you that I had to field that question multiple times a day.
Agree completely.
It's from when he guest-starred on MadTV
i believe it was even earlier as the show ended in 94, buuuuuut yes quite accurate :P
"Canadians are weird!" Ed, of Ed Edd n Eddy
I had no idea Canada was ruled by a small boy. LOL!
just don't EVER get married in Canada right Dave?
He's probably still paying for that one! Poor guy!
He shouldn't have gotten behind on his child support. It's that simple.
@Duke You mean at the very beginning where he literally couldn't pay that amount because he no longer made that amount of money?
Maybe don't threaten fathers with debtor's prison if they don't pay impossible amounts of money.
Maybe don't have children if you can't handle all of the possible outcomes.
Too soon
Life as you know it.
lawl Ahh Dave.
1995. Yeah, the statement was pretty accurate at the time.
I have this on vhs too :)
Still kept with Kids OmIn The Hall style of comedy.
i'm starting to see some twilight zone influences in this show.
for example in this one when he says we're ruled by a boy with supernatural powers. it was nice to hear such a subtle reference, if it was indeed a reference.
“At least we have universal healthcare.” That sounds more and more appealing by the month.
Yes Man from Fallout: New Vegas and Moff from Harvey Beaks!
As an American, I always laugh when they make of us.
*giggle* This is pretty neat. It does seem kinda out of wack though, not the video, but what he's saying.
I will absolutely trade gravity for universal healthcare
Our national anthem isn't really the Star Spangled Banner, it's Reighn in Blood by Slayer. The Banner is just the polite version, yet clearly the mentioning of explosions, rockets, bombs and violence are evident.
Dude. Reign. Yes I’m that asshole. Five years later
@@nebulousisgod Now I'm the guy reading your comments 2 years later.
Talk about a bit that held up.
2 degrees C below absolute zero?
Wow. I don't think I've seen a tracking error for over a decade.
Amazingly, most Americans believe everything he says about Canada except for universal Healthcare. That, apparently, is the farfetched unbelievable thing.
Look up "negative temperature" on wikipedia. It explains it very simply.
Wikipedia isn’t always correct. It’s not a legitimate encyclopedia. People seem to have forgotten that.
If they only could have known....
I had suspected as much.......
That's a cool VCR tracking filter at the start... how'd you do that?
John Whittle by using a VCR...
It’s kind of insane to me that there are adults in this world who have never used a VCR.
@@nebulousisgod Things change.
