  • A walk in the Lake District covering two Fells, Branstree (713m) and Selside Pike (655m).
The walk starts from the Mardale Head car park at the end of Haweswater in the Eastern Lake District and takes the path leading up to the Gatescarth Pass. From the top of the pass the route follows the fence line to the summit of Branstree. From Branstree we then head to the two cairns on Artlecrag Pike and the Haweswater Survey Pillar. This is one of four such pillars in the area, built in the 1930's for the construction of Haweswater Reservoir and Aqueduct. From the Survey Pillar, the path continues to the summit of Selside. From the summit of Selside we head to Selside End and join the Old Corpse Road back down to Haweswater. There is superb views looking over Haweswater heading down. We then follow the Lakeside Path back to Mardale Head. Distance is around 5.6miles.
