After 70 hours I am only in the middle of chapter 10. I absolutely love this game. Its above and beyond Remake. And I really enjoyed Remake. Great review, it’s clear a lot of work was put into it and I appreciate the spoiler warnings in the beginning. Even though I beat the original hundreds of times, the remake is clearly making changes and I’d like to be surprised.
The thing that really hooked me into the new trilogy was how they stretched Remake. 100% for me as well. My first experience with FF7 was when I played Remake in 2020 and I didn’t realize how much stuff was newly added until I played the original in 2021. @Blasted2Oblivion I love Remake, but if we are being honest, there was a lot of padding. Mainly a ton of throwaway sidequests, the handcrane thing (I know it's a reference to the OG) when you're heading to Wall Market, the forced walking segments... just to mention the things that really messed up the pacing in certain chapters. I say all that as someone who platinumed the game on ps4 and ps5 AND bought it on PC lol
@bukojoetheslapsoils8273 after seeing how the Remake team is connecting all the ff7 spin offs together (which requires alot of tweaks to the story), I have no doubt in my mind that they could salvage and patch up the ff8 story. @@ErenDenizMert Just circumstantial evidence. Given the past patterns though, I'm confident it is the case. These guys have been going to E3, Gamescom, and Tokyo Game Show as far back as 2009 (They only started making content in 2008) according to their website. If you didn't know, E3 is not a public event like a convention. Even TGS, while it is open to the public, is friggin expensive. Just seems weird and unlikely that an indepedent group of fanatics would just happen to get to go to E3 (back when it actually was worth going to) within only a year of starting their business. These guys also have no negative opinions to speak of. If they do speak negatively, it's in reference to how other players might have felt, but never their own feelings. I'll grant that it's possible SquEnix doesn't directly pay their bills, but they most likely do trade invitations and other stuff for nonstop hype.
What I wanted more than anything was a much more in depth adventure with these characters and it seems like they've knocked it out the park. As someone who is a huge fan of Yuffie in OG I'm loving how much positivity there is around her.
This review was phenomenal and so very well done. I’m so very excited to play this game, even more so after watching this video. Keep up the good work, as always love the content!
I think it would be hard to keep the game balanced if progressed carried over from previous game. You’d also be less incentivized to try out some of the new mechanics if you were already OP from the start
Not to mention it would discourage players who havent played the Remake to pick this up. By having a soft reset, new players have(more or less) the same start point as those who played Remake.
As soon as I saw we would be able to upgrade materia all the way in remake, I knew that stuff would not be carried over. Imagine casting firaga right at the start of the game. But also imagine a game where they limit it to just fire or maybe fira for all of remake. I'm ok with going through a natural feeling progression for rebirth.
@@Mil1210 They already greatly limited available spells and skills in the first part, having firaga at the start would have not been any problem if they added the materia fusion system from crisis core.

Great review guys! My only gripe is the fact that you seem to finish the game so much faster than what it took me.. Granted in both remake and rebirth I tried to do everything I could do in a first playthrough and I may have spent extra time marveling at the world of ffvii but my first playthrough of remake was around 76 hours while my first playthrough of rebirth was around 206 hours which is much more than what you guys mention in the video.. It just seems weird to me.. ^_^
@jaysteelsun lol 2 years ago I was buying a new console for Christmas. I decided on the PS5 just for Final Fantasy in general. At the time mainly FF7 remake. Which I bought a ps4 copy of for like 5 bucks. I bought my son a series X for Christmas in 2023. So I have both now but I don't regret the purchase.
I highly appreciate the beginning sections for spoilers and recommendations on how to consume this. I listened, but did not watch and I feel like that was probably a good move as once or twice I accidentally tabbed back into the window and saw footage I'd never seen before.

Please put icon/symbols on materia next installment so you can identify any materia at a glance when in the menu. Eg, lightning symbol on lightning materia. Think this will make materia management easier.

I GOT TO SEE THE GOODIES included in the 20th anniversary Advent Children Compleate Re-release in the Theater last night and oooooo we getting all the ff7 and alittle somthing new we should all be stoked and screaming for
@@lyndsaybrown8471 there was a very long special interview with Nomura about Rebirth, what's coming next and the extensive amount of things they have done to make sure everything ties together. All the FF7 spin offs, the literature and advent children everything into one cohesive story that can be finally told correctly and properly. And I believe they even altered Complete to Match that all as well. But he ended it with saying exactly what they are doing with the next few parts and afterwards as well. It also had a special trailer that was pretty revealing for those who could pick out the WAIT ..STOP HOLD UP moments. It will be worth having to had to wait since the PS1 and early 00's Era of FF7 rumors, interviews, and spin offs that felt out of place since the Tech couldn't do what the team wanted to from the get go. Square has the Captial now to finally make Dreams come true.
@@lyndsaybrown8471 I think my reply got removed. There was a interview with Nomura About the Development of Rebirth and What they are trying to do with these remakes. A sort of Complete and Comprehensive telling the entire story together across what looks like it's going to be more then 3 parts with somthing afterwards as well. The movie besides having the interview and special Trailer for Rebirth I believe had some extra extra scenes I dont remeber in the 2021 remaster.
I love how Aerith and Red XIII have abilities resembling jobs from the MMOs; it's rare to see additions from those games spread to other games. Aerith being a geomancer rocks!!
I hoped there would be some element of progression crossover. Obviously, I never expected them to throw us into a new game fully powered, but a little something would have been nice.
Am i the only one that is happy that the characters start at level 1 with no skills? I think it would be kind of lame to carry over stuff from the previous game. Plus it would make it impossible for new players

@@vonclaren1 Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is far from generic. P3: Reloaded is basically the original game with a new coat of paint, but it's still excellent. As far as the FF7 remakes, I was skeptical at first, but I'm pretty happy overall with the outcome. Are they exactly what I wanted? No, but it's the best we're likely to get, and and they're still better than 90% of releases these days. I don't want my nostalgia for the classics to ruin modern gaming for me.
@@vonclaren1 I genuinely liked the first part of the remake. And, if anything, nostalgia made me less likely to enjoy it. It didn't redefine what a video game can be like the original, but I still had fun. And that's good enough for me. Infinite Wealth surpassed the original in every way imaginable. The combat is probably the best turn-based gameplay I've ever experienced. I highly recommend it. I didn't know it had Denuvo, but I didn't have any technical issues either if that helps. Though, if you'd rather sail the high seas, I've got no issue with it. I've certainly done it myself.
@FinalFantasyUnion I’ve seen a few people that have thrown out a theory that Jenova in ff7 is actually Yunalesca in ff10. Could you guys possibly do a theory crafting video on this? I think it would be a really interesting rabbit hole to go in to.
@@nightfears3005 I mean yunalesca was never sent to the farplane by Yuna and we’ve seen that people who aren’t sent to the farplane can end up having unique changes to their body’s. So it’s not a stretch to say that when the citizens of spira end up going to gaia, yunalesca in a fit of rage try’s to follow after them and eventually does find gaia. Also I’d like to point out that in ff7 advent children, when the main antagonist (honestly I forgot the guys name but it’s been well over 10 years since I last watched it) dies in cloud’s arms the scene of him “turning into the lifestream” literally has him turning into pyreflies just before turning into the lifestream. It could also be said that (and I know this could be a bit of a stretch) the Cetra could actually be descendants of the summoner’s from spira and that the materia that we use for magic and summons ourselves is in fact crystallized lifestream. The reason why it’s done this way is because it was a practice that was passed on from spira's own sphere grid.
They would have to royally fuck up the story for this not to become my favorite game of all time, so far I've been completely caught up in the demos, I keep playing the combat simulator because I want to get really good at the fights, combat is even better than in Remake, more action oriented but also with more tactical alternatives.
i always believe that a remake of a game should never be a 1:1 remake, i dont want the devs to stuck in the past glory, i want them to try new things, take more risks, while of course still maintain the respect to the source material itself.. of course you cant please everyone, but if theres a possibility, a chance even the slightest, to surpassed the og, then i'm gladly support it.. cant wait for the pc port of rebirth, coz i dont have ps5, and i want to play it with mods.. hehe
Maybe a minor criticism but I really wish there was a transmog system in this game. I just want to use the Buster Sword at all times but have the materia slots of late games weapons, is that so much to ask for? FF16 added transmog in a patch so I’m hoping they’ll do it here too eventually.
The low starting level and having to relearn abilities is only for gameplay purposes and not story canon. I don't mind having to progress again, seeing as the 1st installment came out 4 YEARS AGO and the next and final installment is likely also going to come out in 2028, 4 years from now. I don't think it would be a fun experience if the party is just steamrolling early enemies because you carried over a level 100 party. Plus it's for balancing purposes. While the core gameplay is similar to the first, there's just enough change that would skew the balance of the game. I'm 100% for starting from scratch.
The final game is going to have SO much pressure on the devs. No Vincent or cid is pretty disappointing for me but meh. I'm simply happy with being able to play it...though I have to wait for the PC version. Which, works out well for me, as the console players can be the bug testers 😅 Great little review I didn't feel like anything was spoiled (I've clock original many times) I was happy to see some more footage. I'm really looking forward to the final game. I have no idea what to expect. The very least I'm thinking EPIC music and beautiful cut scenes and crazy japanese style boss battle. How good will that 2nd stage sephiroth music sound!??!
PC guy, so I got a long wait still to play this. Still I am disappointed to hear there is no carryover between games. I feel like at a minimum all items should have carried over, than slowly replaced as better items are found.
Are there ANY spoilers in this review that aren’t in the trailers, the 2 Demos, or the extra content for special edition Advent Children showing in theaters right now.
I completely disagree with the chicken quest. It felt like such a troll from square and felt like it was going to be way more tedious than it actually was. BY the way it ends it was both funny and dark and totally worth doing.

Fast becoming my favourite FF channel! Thank you for this. My hype is through the roof!
Aw, I'm going to miss the weapon upgrade menus from remake.
I didn't like the weapon upgrading stuff in remake much. It was kind of lame. I'm hoping rebirth folios will be very robust like ff12 maybe
@spicydong317 yeah it was pretty silly. Apart from opening materia slots asap I didn't care too much about which ones I went for
I just liked the look of the menu 😅
The menu was so good
I loved choosing my weapon upgrades! It felt strategic in terms of what I wanted to prioritize powering up.
I love you guys. It upsets me you don't have more subscribers because you deserve it
Love the review. It's really great that it includes some honest critiques. Cheers!
Yeah!
Using John Oeth's covers is a really nice touch!
John's arrangements are fantastic, so we're always more than happy to spread the love! ~Darryl
Just so hyped right now, you guys did such a fantastic job diving into this and keeping your opinions honest. You guys are the best at what you do.
I'm really excited to try the Chocobo racing minigame. It looks better than the Chocobo GP game Square released a few year ago.
i cant belive im saying this but i cant wait to play with cait sith
I have breakfast and coffee ready to watch! I’m so excited!
What I wanted more than anything was a much more in depth adventure with these characters and it seems like they've knocked it out the park. As someone who is a huge fan of Yuffie in OG I'm loving how much positivity there is around her.
Loved the review. Can't wait to hear what you guys think about the deeper elements of the story after finishing the game!
This review was phenomenal and so very well done. I’m so very excited to play this game, even more so after watching this video. Keep up the good work, as always love the content!
The graphics snobs really drive me insane. This game looks and plays incredibly. I think you guys were way to harsh. Game is easy 11/10
Burning inside with violet anger... Sephiroth!
Let’s mosey
Wonderful review as always. Great work FFU team!
Thank you for a compelling and detailed review and whilst remaining vague and respectful of spoliers. I literally can't wait to play this!
by far the best review on this game in existence thank you
I think it would be hard to keep the game balanced if progressed carried over from previous game. You’d also be less incentivized to try out some of the new mechanics if you were already OP from the start
Not to mention it would discourage players who havent played the Remake to pick this up.
By having a soft reset, new players have(more or less) the same start point as those who played Remake.
@@fendelphithen dont break the game up.uts stupid to beat fate and be struggling with regular enemies
@@holy9781 If they hadnt "broken the game up", you wouldnt be able to play any of it until around 2028.
@@Mil1210 They already greatly limited available spells and skills in the first part, having firaga at the start would have not been any problem if they added the materia fusion system from crisis core.
when fanboy review and professional review collide and somehow, against all odds fulfill each others' weakness with strength
stellar video. thanks for your quality content. keep it up. wish you well🤚
Unbiased, informative and easy to understand review. I wish every review was like this.
The classic song remixes keep making me all teary-eyed and shit. And the way the music integrates into the gameplay is absolute perfection (_*most*_ of the time)
I think this channel explains my love for FF in ways i normally cannot. Maybe i forget stuff, dont explain it well or whatever. The LOVE for FF as a whole is what im about. I love to let people know FF7 is the best imo but the franchise is what brings the fans together
glad to see Beck Butch and Burke are back, I liked those guys.
i like how the turn based spell combat is hidden within the realtime dodging and sword attacks/
Man I am beyond excited, a wonderful time to be a Final Fantasy fan.
Love this channel. Such legit FF fans. I can't say enough kind words. I'm so amped to play this.
FFVII: Remake took me 42hrs during my first playthrough. Then, 36 & 32hrs to complete the game & every side-quest respectively.
It's great that there is no rush to play this. Part 3 will be out way later and I don't have a ps5 yet. Game looks fun.
I literally got a ps5 last week just for this game and I usually NEVER make absurd purchases like that lol
@@jaysteelsun i want to play it properly on pc, i waited for remake, can wait also for this one.
Fuck that, i cant wait, ill just replay rebirth before part 3, like i did with remake this week in anticipation of rebirth.
@@lokibau oh yeah I ended up buying it again when it came to steam and replayed it.
I highly appreciate the beginning sections for spoilers and recommendations on how to consume this. I listened, but did not watch and I feel like that was probably a good move as once or twice I accidentally tabbed back into the window and saw footage I'd never seen before.
Rebirth has had me hooked from the very beginning, I’m 40 hours in, and I only just arrived at the Gold Saucer! I just can’t get enough of it, and showing no signs of slowing down!!😁
At least a dozen Reviews were released today.
*I came to this one first!*
i loved ff8 card game (witout the stupid late game rules that actually ruin it and are a chore to remove) but hated ff9's, i hope this one will be a good one.
I don't think the synergy issue you talked about, is really an issue. You should be switching when playing and you should be paying attention to anything and everything on the screen
for me open world or linear FF with good story and mechanics, i will enjoy it
Does anyone know what Darryl meant when he spoke about Max Mittelman?
YOU PLAYED THE WHOLE GAME!! I got so many questions (that why I'm watching this video) I'm the odd one who WANT THE SPOILERS, I already pre-order the game. I'm not gonna gonna ask for my money back.. I'm 80% satisfied but you got me waiting for your spoilers video..
Honestly I have enjoyed so many playthroughs of part 1 I’m unimaginably excited for part 2 one more week and I don’t exist to the world for a week lol
This game looks sooo good.
I bought it last week together with the ff7 remake bcs the only FF I've ever played was ff15 and I think it's important to play the remake before rebirth to understand everything.
I'm so curious and can't wait to play it.
This is by far the best review I saw! Got my Abo
I am as excited for Rebirth as I am curious as to how Reunion will close the saga. (I have called Remake pt 3 "Reunion" since Remake dropped.)
Didn't they call the remastered Crisis Core Reunion? So I think that title is of the table.
Please put icon/symbols on materia next installment so you can identify any materia at a glance when in the menu.
Eg, lightning symbol on lightning materia.
Think this will make materia management easier.
I just replayed the entire remake and dlc to have a save file😭 nothing transfers over
You do get two summon materia for having save files from remake and intergrade
@@vonclaren1 I just assumed, stuff like the Leviathan materia and other stuff that you get through non-story progression, like 0 point in 100% in any of them then
😂😂😂😂
@replicatv1463 that seems like an oversight on your part. It's been well known it wouldn't carryover for quite a while now
I GOT TO SEE THE GOODIES included in the 20th anniversary Advent Children Compleate Re-release in the Theater last night and oooooo we getting all the ff7 and alittle somthing new we should all be stoked and screaming for
Was there something new in the theatrical re-release? I already own the movie, so I didn't go see it.
My body is so ready for more FFVII 😊
I hoped there would be some element of progression crossover. Obviously, I never expected them to throw us into a new game fully powered, but a little something would have been nice.
Damn that acoustic slaps
Woot!!! Shootout to one of my favorite nostalgia game, Shenmue!
The menu UI is totally modern PS1 looking, that's so cool.
It's only 4 days away, boyz and gurlz! Our patience is about to pay off!
Thank you for making this spoiler free.
Am i the only one that is happy that the characters start at level 1 with no skills?
I think it would be kind of lame to carry over stuff from the previous game. Plus it would make it impossible for new players
You won't be level 1, low 20's is what every preview has shown, but I can tolerate the choice. I would have preferred carry over, but I won't cry myself to sleep over it.
Yeah, I'm with you. I don't want to be overpowered right when I start the game, I don't mind relearning things while the learn any new mechanics.
@@nathanstruble2177 yeah I've played the demos but im not sure if we will start at 20. If we do I hope we go to 70 or 99. Thinking now it'll probably be like 75. 1 to 50 in game 1, 20 to 75 in game 2 and 50 to 99 in game 3 kind of thing
@@satanicghoul yeah I'd rather start low level and feel like I'm building a fresh team then starting with 4 characters with great gear and materia.
Gimme cure, fire, thunder, and blizzard. And go
I'm glad this turned out so well. Rebirth overall improves a lot from Remake, which is what you look for in a sequel.
My head canon for the beginning of game nerf is exhaustion from the previous battle. Gotta make it make sense some how
I just hope slowdowns and framerate dips aren't as frequent in the PC version when in towns as it was in Remake
Cant wait to see Daddyroth
Such a good review! I am so excited!!
This is one of the best years for RPGs in my lifetime.
@@vonclaren1 I'm nearly 40. So yes, I was alive in 97. Though, I don't remember what came out that year apart from FF 7.
This is truly a great FF 7 Rebirth review!
I hope nothing of importance is hidden behind the piano game, I'll never get it 😂
What an amazing review!!
@FinalFantasyUnion I’ve seen a few people that have thrown out a theory that Jenova in ff7 is actually Yunalesca in ff10. Could you guys possibly do a theory crafting video on this? I think it would be a really interesting rabbit hole to go in to.
The dumbest theory that ever came out of the fanbase.
Every review I’ve seen so far has been absolutely overwhelmingly positive. Makes the wait that much tougher.
They would have to royally fuck up the story for this not to become my favorite game of all time, so far I've been completely caught up in the demos, I keep playing the combat simulator because I want to get really good at the fights, combat is even better than in Remake, more action oriented but also with more tactical alternatives.
Been waiting to watch this until finishing the story.
What a superb review ❤
Swear I’m about to start reviewing games so I can get games like this 2 weeks early lol so excited for this loved ff7 since I was 10
incredible video like always
This was an amazing review! And thank you for not spoiling the game like Square Enix has
I would like to know if you have the urge to play part three or is it possible to go back and play rebirth to get 100 percent
i always believe that a remake of a game should never be a 1:1 remake, i dont want the devs to stuck in the past glory, i want them to try new things, take more risks, while of course still maintain the respect to the source material itself.. of course you cant please everyone, but if theres a possibility, a chance even the slightest, to surpassed the og, then i'm gladly support it.. cant wait for the pc port of rebirth, coz i dont have ps5, and i want to play it with mods.. hehe
This isnt really a remake its a sequel.
Maybe a minor criticism but I really wish there was a transmog system in this game. I just want to use the Buster Sword at all times but have the materia slots of late games weapons, is that so much to ask for? FF16 added transmog in a patch so I’m hoping they’ll do it here too eventually.
See it weird bc I loved that chicken can quest
I can't wait to play this!
top tier FF for me, up there with og VII and VI
The low starting level and having to relearn abilities is only for gameplay purposes and not story canon. I don't mind having to progress again, seeing as the 1st installment came out 4 YEARS AGO and the next and final installment is likely also going to come out in 2028, 4 years from now. I don't think it would be a fun experience if the party is just steamrolling early enemies because you carried over a level 100 party. Plus it's for balancing purposes. While the core gameplay is similar to the first, there's just enough change that would skew the balance of the game. I'm 100% for starting from scratch.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MASTERPIECE
This is a very detailed review but also has more spoiler than I want. Thanks tho!
I feel like at a minimum all items should have carried over, than slowly replaced as better items are found.
cant wait till the 29 feels like a a month away going so slow also gonna be downloading this all night lol
Only 3 days for the Rebirth launch!!
Are there ANY spoilers in this review that aren’t in the trailers, the 2 Demos, or the extra content for special edition Advent Children showing in theaters right now.
No. They didn't even use footage that captured themselves. Any actual info and footage presented is all stuff we knew already
@@Justin-td2er
Thank you. You are the best.
I am so hyped for this game
Is NG+ available at launch?
Rebirth launches tomorro!
So exciting, you guys
I completely disagree with the chicken quest. It felt like such a troll from square and felt like it was going to be way more tedious than it actually was. BY the way it ends it was both funny and dark and totally worth doing.
Outstanding Review
