  • We've been here over 9 months. We have acclimated to many things, including Terlingua time, so things aren't getting done as fast as they could but that's ok, good even :)

    New ourselves, I’m mindful this place is not usually green with rains creating new growth with flowers. That’s aberrant. The Ranch is much more often than not in a drought with little or no rains. As a word to the wise, for people thinking this place is an oasis of water where you dig a trench and plants grow, Terlingua is far far from an oasis and people seeing your videos and Roberts videos and Johns videos, reality is more stark than seen on you tube in best of times videos. I would move here again if I had it to do over with very little changes, but I planed and studied what I was doing, and I had resources to focus on the task. Myself, I would not come here with a family. Children are wonderful but needy and nothing about this desert is family friendly. I would not come here looking for work as the distances are too vast. This is a good place to retire if you are set up right and don’t need shopping to entertain you or doctors to medicate you. The remoteness of everything cannot be over stressed I am glad you and Lisa are feeling blessed. I hope that feeling continues over the years to come.

    Glad you pushed through your fears and the naysayers to "do it".. ..That is the message I have been trying to push out on my channel,, "It IS possible,, you CAN do it,, it is easier than you realize.!!" (only problem with that is soon we WILL have 30 or 40 neighbors 'uphill' of us.. )

      Yeah, it's actually been much less difficult than I expected. The slope I was looking at starts on our property so no worries about uphill folks on that one.

    Your lion looks very similar to ours. We have those same flowers right now. It looks like you have a lot of creosote like we do or otherwise known as chaparral bush. ❤️👍

      LION!!! Where?!?! Good thing it wasn't a snake or it would have bit me :P Yeah, flowers out here are amazing. I can't believe how much plant life there is.

    Nice job out there, I doubted you would pull it off but you did on a much bigger scale than I plan on. I would keep the shrubbery and bushes from getting too tall. I seen pictures of my place 4 years before I purchased it and it was like yours..now I need a brush hog and a front end loader to clear areas out as that stuff gets tall fast.

    • @fullvegan
      @fullvegan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We plan to keep trails and areas open but we're going to let it grow everywhere else.. We're going to get some other trees going and see what takes hold out here. I doubt anything tall will survive the wind, but then again, who knows.

    I'm planning to move to terlingua to homestead. Questions: what kind of internet can you get? I work remotely and need about 5mbps download, 2mbps upload and less than 150 ping. Is that even possible in the area?
    Secondly if I buy land w no water hookups, how do I go about getting water for irrigation and is it expensive to get?
    Are there any kind of water shortages or times of year where I wouldn't be able to run a sprinkler on my garden?
    And why are there no trees? Is it also bc there's not enough water in the ground to sustain them?

    Can I take my rv and live in it until I have money to buy a property? Would the town rally against me for camping for free. Getting a job and working for my land?

    Get a Berkey Filter off Amazon. They aren't cheap but I can attest that it absolutely works (will remove food coloring from water). Looking forward to any Project Videos you have coming up! Look into rainwater catchment if your not already doing it!

    Get better land, more rain, just north 60 miles toward Alpine! 1" of rain on one acre is 24k+ gallons, If one studies desert reforestation you could have a mini oasis in Teralinqua!

    So how do you cool your power building to keep it at 70 degrees during those Hot summer days?

    • @fullvegan
      @fullvegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is well insulated and we have a 12,000btu mini split air conditioner which easily keeps it at 70 even on 100 degree days.
