I love making soap now. Not so much when was a kid in the 1950's. I learned by helping grandma, who learned from her mother. I joke grandma made soap with bits of grease not even fit for doctoring a cow's hoof, but it wasn't a joke. She saved what I think was a 3 pound coffee can of drippings, melted it on the corner of her woodstove in an old chipped granite dishpan, mixed her lye in a 1 pound coffee can, poured it in the fat and yelled 'Linda! Come stir this soap!' I would stir it until trace and call her for confirmation. She would nod, cover the pan with a cloth and send me back to whatever I was doing. As soon as it was set enough to cut, she got the knife she used for soap, cut it and covered the pan back up. 😊 Oh, the memories.
@@lindachandler2293 what an awesome story Linda! I was taught to make soap like that but didn’t use the grease. I know of folks who still do it the way your grandma does! 💖
Those are so cute! We prefer homemade soaps. When you said your house smelled so good that reminded me of the many times being at a farmers market talking to a soap vendor. Those areas smell so good so I know your home smelled marvelous! ❤️
Great job Jan! You nailed it! Added you to the playlist and so glad you joined! You did amazing! Love the bumblebees! Like all our collabs they’re about overcoming and you did

Thats so cool!! I am so wanting to try making soap, but im like you, im scared im gonna mess it up! Ill try one day...
Amy! It’s so so easy! You literally melt the soap, put the powder in and essential oil in and let it set. Then wrap it in saran wrap.
@SimplyJanHomestead so is there certain oils you use with soaps.. there are so many
@LenardMountainHomestead pure essential oil Amy. Call me if you need anything
@ just buy a melt and pour base. That’s what it’s called
I gotta get me some homemade soap.....its better for the skin!!
Yes! I’ll send some to you when I get a more manly scent. Do you like skunk 🦨 ROTFL 🤣
@@SimplyJanHomestead I prefer Bovine Scatology scent, but Llama Fart will do🤣🤣
@outandaboutwithsamiam5034 ROTFL 🤣 OK! 👍
