    OK, had to have my Thanksgiving dinner last Saturday due to my daughter traveling. Made these Yams. Never seen anything like it. Not only did everyone love them, but for the first time ever, THERE WERE NO LEFTOVERS! These are without a doubt the best candied yams I've ever tasted. Don't know what it is, don't care...definitely making them again.

    This is my family’s new favorite way to make candied yams. This was the second year and it’ll be my go to from now on. Absolutely love it!! Goes really well with ham.

    My favorite side is Cranberry Conserve. The Crane family cookbook from the Montclair Historical Society has the details, but it's been a family fav since the 1700s.

    I am THRILLED to finally find someone who makes candied sweet potatoes like my grandma did!!! Granted, I'm pretty sure I remember her waiting until the potatoes were cooked and removed to put in the butter and brown sugar, but it's still the same outcome. She only used butter and brown sugar...not all the seasonings I've been seeing elsewhere. I'm excited to practice! Thank you so much for sharing

    I'm honestly not a yam fan but my wife is. This was the third recipe I watched, she said it should have been the first. This and your creamed spinach is on the menu this Christmas dinner! Thanks for the good stuff.

    Can’t wait to make these! They look delicious. My favorite side dish is my moms cheesy-onion asparagus dish. It’s asparagus boiled to tender, covered with sautéed onions, a few spices, mixed together and covered with cheese, broiled until bubbly and voila! Deliciousness. :) love your channel! Cooking with Shereen yes I am in California and I always get confused with sweet potatoes and yams, they seem to be the same for me but different names depending the person or region they live in

    • @CookingwithShereen
      @CookingwithShereen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Danny Fenty Hi Danny, yes, this is true. It’s super confusing. When I was little and my Mom purchased them in the grocery store, they called them yams to differentiate between the two varieties. The Cream-ish colored flesh and the orange flesh, which are actually both sweet potatoes. I guess, because I grew up with her calling them yams, they’re still yams to me. I believe they still refer to them down south as yams? The grocery stores today call all sweet potatoes by their actual name. These are either garnet or jewel sweet potatoes. It’s funny because; I’ve been paying close attention to this now when I shop. Hope you’re doing well! Wishing you and your family a happy thanksgiving!

    Mrs. Shereen, my grand daughters are staying over tonite, they love sweet candied yams, nice recipe. p.s. i think you used dark brown sugar which has the molasses which we prefer vs light brown, & i also like to drizzle a little sourwood honey over the finished product. ( if your not familiar, sourwood is not sour, it is sweet, but i think it has more depth of flavor than clover leaf honey)

    People don't realize how good yams are for you especially if you just bake them with the skin on then eat them for dinner........minus the butter and brown sugar.

      I agree, they are delicious as is, but for the holidays, I like to splurge a little 😉

    I'm making these for Thanksgiving. But I have to make ahead and take them to the dinner. How should I reheat.
    My favorite side dish is Cornbread dressing with turkey gravy and cranberry sauce.

      Arlene Arcebal CHANNEL Hi Arlene! Welcome! Yes, these are Jewel Sweet Potatoes. You’re correct. Growing up, my Mom always called them yams, as they do in the US. Traditional yams are nothing like a sweet potato. They are very common in Africa and the Caribbean, more like the taste and texture of a yucca. So glad you stopped by 😊
