At 2:40 is a picture of Schaefer tower. I was an operator there in the late 70s. I was told that the track going off to the left is where Henry Ford stored his private car.
Been a DT&I fan my whole life. The Henry Ford era is fascinating, and you did an excellent job presenting it! He tried to do alot of good things, and some bad, but overall I think he was successful. Today's money-obsessed companies should take afew pointers from his operation.
Thankfully some DT&I rolling stock has been preserved. GTW still holds on the legacy of the DT&I. These preserved rolling stock and the GTW will continue to remind us of what once was Detroit Toledo and Ironton Railroad.
I think #7 is in Greenfield Village now, pulling the train around the tracks inside the Village. It's a Baldwin Engine. There used to be one in Champaign Park, in Allen Park when I was a kid. I think it was in the late 1960s or early 1970s, that some kids scaled the fence that was around it and painted it pink. They caught the perps and they had to get the paint off or re-paint it black. The engine was gone a short time later. I wonder what happened to it.

@@engineerskalinera Indeed. I'm hard at work spray-painting one of my Berkshires I got for Christmas into a DT&I 2-8-4 and a Marx caboose with Lionel trucks into a DT&I caboose, too.
That's better than some other major railroads like the Missouri Kansas and Texas (MKT), Kansas City Southern and Virginian Railway where only one steam locomotive from each of these railroads has been preserved or survives.
I am personally very lucky in this type of situation. I live near a place called Greenfield Village, built by Henry Ford in the 1920s. The cool part about it, is that two DT&I steam locomotives there, those being #7 and #45. #45 doesn't run anymore, but #7 does, so it's super cool to see them up close.

The map you show of the Virginian Railway is completely incorrect. The Virginian did not go to Newport News, Virginia. The Virginian went to Norfolk, Va. by a completely different route. Your map is more representative of the Chesapeake and Ohio RR.

The Campton southwestern was founded in 1856 after its beginning as the Denver Colorado and Northern At the time being 14 miles of track were laid. Then more track was laid The CNW was in charge of the railroad for a few months in 1855 Then CSW came back and then all of the CNW 2-8-0s were put off the track and replaced with CSW 2-6-2s
But, troubles arrived in 1893. The lines were getting old and had to be fixed. So the CSW was sidelined from working in 1899. It reopened in 1906 Then WW1 came around in 1914 and all American railroads were US army railroads until 1918

I live in Allen park Michigan 1 block away from the 15 mile stretch of the former electric line. Still has many cantnary arches. Thanks for the video

I’ve grown up next to the Flat Rock and Dearborn subdivisions all my life. Great video about the railroad that’s still well rooted in my hometown.

The DT&I was never double tracked, though bridges were installed in preparation for double track.

He didn't build locomotives, he just owned a railroad for a brief period of time
