  • “Don’t be shy! Be sure to show interest in the work of a mentor that you’re interested in working with,” said Karen Sweazea, PhD, an associate professor at the school of nutrition and health promotion at Arizona State University. The goal of her talk, “Selecting a Good Mentor and Lab for an Academic Postdoc,” is to discuss important considerations when searching for academic postdoctoral positions. You will learn several questions you should ask yourself, your prospective mentor and lab mates when searching and interviewing for postdoctoral positions in academia. Sweazea was one of four speakers offering advice on “Choosing the Right Lab and Personnel for Your Career” during the APS Mentoring Symposium organized by the APS Women in Physiology Committee.
