Step 1: Buy a fucking monster PC Edit: I've not tried other softwares, but I did this on Blender and to get this level of detail on my computer (a 4 years old laptop) it would takes hours just to bake the animation. Rendering would take a lot more.
Most PCs can actually render this pretty well. As long as it's a recent PC. Even a current 500$ laptop could realistically create and run this pretty smoothly.
Only downside is the bake times involved especially working on a laptop such as the one I am on i3 with 8 gigs of ram LOL actually working on a fluid and smoke sim now that has been baking for about 2 hours and is at 50 percent. But yes it will get the job done and will render the scene decently over a couple weeks while sitting in the freezer. ;)
davidsirmons That water isn't a simulation, but a plugin for Cinema 4D called HOT4D. It's basically a deformer, and it's fun to play with. It's free, so if you have C4D, you can start using it!
The HOT4D Plugin is based on Houdini FX Ocean Waves Engine.. Houdini FX is the best simulation software. Take a look on it: www.sidefx.com/products/houdini-fx/
Video games are rendered and calculated on the fly. Calculating the physics of a fluid takes a lot of computer power; you couldn't do it in real time unless you had a ludicrously powerful computer.
@@ggaxaly (shhhhhh) But it isn't foot. I can't believe how people can't just understand this. Am I so smart or are you dumb? I guess both. Damn, you guys these days can't find the difference between foot and liquid smh lmao... 😅🙄😪😏

Same! The easiest way to tell that its simulated is that the liquid doesn't fully settle into the thin layers you get normally, creating the raised bumps that you see towards the end, and the fact that the tiny droplets don't conjoin once they've landed. That, 4:25, and 6:54 are some of the best simulations I've ever seen!
Wout Motmans so by your coment here you say that the ram does the rendering....right? in that case you are dumb....the graphics card and sometimes the cpu do the rendering..
lovreli mate I know but if it would be rendering and calculating such things constantly based on factors of what happens in the game, a lot of ram will be used. if you would only have E 1 gigs of ram for example you wouldn't be able to do such things. of course a good graphic card would be essential but far too less to use in a real game. (not a shitty game with no effort whatsoever
Ticks me off when people act all cocky saying the smoke one isn't a fluid and there acting like there all smart In physics fluid means any substance which constantly deforms under applied shear stress
I just scrolled down 3 show mores. Have not seen a single person complain about this... Probably because people aren't nearly as stupid as you pretend. Its kinda obvious you just saw the smoke, thought "Wouldn't it be funny if someone thought it wasn't a fluid?" then saw a perfect opportunity to act all cocky on the internet...
Peep it's because those comments don't get as many likes so they're buried a little deeper, and I'm sorry if I came of rude. What really happened was I saw that there was a gas and vaguely remembered something about gasses being fluids from my physics class after seeing the comment, so I researched it and was informing others.
Liquid looks great but the only challenge left to make it 1/1 with real life is the floating effect you get when water is scattered on a flat surface, and there would also need some reflection on previously covered area to simulate being wet.
no ones giving love to the awesome gas effects 0:58 and people are complaining that they dont look real but its hard for them to LOOK real when they're not textured and interacting with wireframe objects. The important thing is that they're ACTING real
I know this is about fluid simulations I wonder what simulation you used for the rock wall at 6:12? How did you make the pieces hold back against the fluid 'till they collapsed?
Linus Tech Tips tried a simulation like this on that new nVidia card... They managed to render 8 frames in 2 hours or so... That's A LOT less than 0,3 fps.
Wait a minute... is that first music track from mirror's edge? I just completed that yesterday! =D.That's an amazing water simulation! how did you make this, is that a compilation of things you made or a compilation of videos?
Almost all of them are RealFlow, but I didn't actually make them just put them together from creative commons videos. You can check the "attributions" next to the description for all the source videos, where you can find more information on specific ones :)
So my question is simple: Do you have to create every sigle frame of those things just like old cartoons or are they calculated and animated by a script?
Where do you compute the collisions of the fluids with the static objects? On the GPU or the CPU? I first thought the GPU but wouldn't that be really dump, because you need to give the shader the positions of all the static objects?
Is there any randomness involved in the simulation? Because if not, then shouldn't the fluid be symmetrical when everything around it is symmetrical as well?

Better to make 1 nice simulation... rather than 30 mediocre ones... not hating... just my 2 cents.

that was 2014. Its 2016 and still not in a games. there goes my 50 cents
That's because most of the simulations are to heavy to run in real time. They're pre-rendered.
