Try maintaining a steady environment when it's over 100° F outside. 🥵 My dry tent is 30 inches from my AC unit, getting blasted with the coldest air it'll make, and it's still only 67° inside it during the hottest part of the day. I'm trying to adjust the vpd, hoping that a higher humidity will help slow the dry and retain the terps. 🤞

    However, tricombs need light.

    • @BrianM-44041
      @BrianM-44041 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In order to produce trichomes the plant needs a certain amount of heat, light, water, nutrients, CO2 and oxygen. Trichomes themselves are more of an 'armor' for the cannabis plant. It's a defensive mechanism against extreme temps, drought, pests, etc. this is another good reason to Include chitin in your soils. Chitin triggers a similar response on a smaller scale, or even sometimes dramatically.

    Fyi regarding drying/curing with canatrol. Highter temps/warmer air means it can hold more water vapour, thus slowing the drying process. Higher temperatures does not mean a faster drying process its more to do with water vapour in the area drying in. I do not understand why people think higher temps mean a quicker dry. that is a misconception. Thats also why canatrol has a good product because he understands that.

    • @BrianM-44041

      If you keep it under the temperatures at which flavonoids, terpenes, volatile organic compounds(vocs), and other cannabinoids evaporated or vaporize, then you're generally safe. It's always losing some throughout its life cycle, and it's constantly replacing them with new ones nightly. The key is to harvest when the production outweighs the degradation. That week when it stinks to high heaven in the mornings and at bedtime is usually early when the trichomes are mostly clear or a mix milky and clear and lasts into the middle of the milky stage. After that it begins to diminish slightly and if left long enough into the ambering stage may even become unpleasant, harsh, or bitter. The curing process plays a huge part in these processes as well as gasses are expelled, and fermentation occurs. Bacterial and fungal action also play a part in flavor. The exudates in the rhizosphere alter many functions in the plant. There are some who even believe moon phases affect the taste, chosing to harvest during the new moon or a full moon depending on their goals. Companion plants can affect expression of terpenes as well. Brix levels may affect taste and smell. Moisture levels when harvested, wet or dry trimming, etc can factor in. Tobacco is generally cured first then dried later, the opposite of how cannabis has traditionally been treated. Some Asian cultures fermented it wet as well, such as in Thailand. Slower dry and cure without mold can lead to a unique flavor. I think we have a lot to learn about drying and curing still. I typically dry at 70 and cure at about 62% rh. My peak flavor is normally at about 3 to 5 weeks of cure time after anywhere between 5 to 10 days hanging in the dark with a light breeze in the room, at 70 degrees and anywhere between 50 and 65% humidity. I'm willing to try some other methods such as fermenting, wet cure, water curing, burying, etc. I'd love to see you e explore that topic in depth. Dr Bruce, Luna all-day, Brandon rust, Jeremy Silva, Kevin jodrey, and many commercial master growers have differing ideas and questions yet to be answered but all have presented some evidence that perhaps we aren't all the way there yet and there may be a better way. I'm fine with it being dried old school, but I'm always open to ideas.

    • @BrianM-44041
      @BrianM-44041 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've also dried at lower temps and actually found that at 60 I seem to lose a little smell and taste compared to the warmer dried stuff. It must never go over 72 to 75 during drying though or it loses quite a bit and becomes harsher. I've fried a batch or two over the years and it sucked. 65 degrees f is what I aim for, Incidentally, I just always seem to end up around 69 to 70 lol it works okay but I have to really regulate the temps like a hawk during summer.

    Genetics is the biggest factor by far. You can grow bad genetics in the most optimal environment and it'll still have minimal flavour.
    If you grow a plant with great terps in an ok environment, you'll still get a tasty product.
    Unless you know someone with great cuttings then the only way to get good genetics is pheno hunting. You'll know when you've found something special.

    The professionals conducting the tests probably have a similar passion if they are will to deal with stigma in community (I’m not naive money talks).
    I am a synthetic grower. That said if AN could debunk the “myth” or organic upside they would’ve spent for white papers.
    If there’s money for study and it doesn’t exist the results would benefit big money. In my humble opinion.

    It's not so much the studys haven't been done it's more a problem of people don't really know where to look for them, colleges and commercial facilities aren't the only places where science is being done, the thing that tought me this was the mycology game. There small groups of people that are getting really good funding to do proper science without bias, same thing with canna, just the people and canna society groups doing these aren't that well knows

    Living soil also has all the terps, oils and compounds that make up everything and the microbes to do it, from within the inputs . Like if you (human) eat nothing but fruits greens vs beef onions your bodily smells and tastes will difer especially over one's whole life.

    5:26 the problem with people growing bad is because they are subscribed to the wrong channels, i recently seen some ocd guy with 90.000 subscribers straight messing up everything fiddling around with buckets that no serious grower would buy. His entire feed has burned plants in the thumbnail like crispy yellow messed up for real type of stuff.

    31:07 can confirm its a game of minimums
    And having long break down periods helps no keep things running with organic and if you know the plant you can hot rod that with salt making synganic
    You can also go the other way grow dots in soil with organic products as top feed
    A million ways to grow gotta find what works for you in your environment

    Part of hydro vs organic debate is the amount of water given to hydro is significantly higher then soils. Some terpenes are water soluble therfore soil will be higher terpenes generally.

    Yall had a good talk but the first 16 minutes you guys talk like for noobies and i think that if the person is super tight budget but have a 30$ light from amazon/china and has a tent for like 2long2wide and 5 tall just open the tent put a heater cones for hair and turn on sealing fan on 2 amd put a fan on a side of the room on low venting the room at the same time and the plant, if the plant moves and theres not too much cold air hitting the plant that will be perfect house needs to be like for growing lizards lol around 76 77 and get a fine hole spray bottle the more vaporish the better just spray water to the plant a few tomes a day just to get her humid and is going to be all good any insects just powder the plant with cinnamon and the soil.
