This group of young very talented musicians demonstrate to me that there may be no limit to how young a child may be to learn a musical instrument. Youngsters who have been described as "prodigies" may not be nothing more than average kids who were afforded an opportunity to learn an instrument. Before I took up music at around age 11-12, I was always told to wait until I was a little older. I probably could have started at around 6 or 7 yeads of age.
Joan Chamorro is a magician. He may be the greatest music teacher who ever lived!

Victor is a phenom at this young age. Just heard this for the first time! What a HUGE TALENT. Can't help but wonder where Helena is these days. Hope she's doing well and playing somewhere. She certainly has a great deal of great looks going for her!!!! While she was there she provided lots of wonderful attitude and backing for everyone.

At 2.20 and again at 2.40 - magic moments, when he goes for it and the young lady sax (Helena) can't help but smile beautifully in support - with him, not at him - that's what playing together is all about.
Victor is great on trumpet. So well executed solo. The saxophone section is tight!
Nasci em 1936, ouço Jazz desde 1949, mas sempre achei que teria de viver 300 anos para ouvir de crianças de oito, dez quinze anos, pouco mais, pouco menos, uma execução de Jazz de nível altíssimo como esses Catalãs da Sant Andreu Jazz Band tocam. O Maestro que os ensina de ser ungido por Deus, ou (desculpem-me!) ter parte com o Capeta.
Agora, creio, nada mais tenho a ouvir de Jazz, ou, talvez esses meninos e meninas não existam.
Sweet as candy - just four years ago from the time I write this, Victor gives us a sneak-preview of what is to come. Dedication and practice pay off one-hundred-fold as his place in the SAJB trumpet section is secured. He's headed for a sparkling career, no doubt.

This may be the youngest Victor video I've seen. Always a fine performance at any age. Helena's enthusiastic cheer at the end was a pleasure to see.

It's more of a group piece, but Victor plays his part competently, though the trumpet star is Alba Armengou.
Víctor tenía sólo 10 años en este video (le faltaba justo una semana para cumplir los 11) y ya demostraba un talento descomunal a la trompeta. Y es que los genes musicales se notan, claro, su padre Alfons es un músico profesional, profesor y arreglista habitual de la banda.
Ahora ya tiene 19 años, su propio grupo y una beca para acabar sus estudios en el Conservatorio del Liceu de Barcelona. Y es que estos chavales de la SAJB nos demuestran desde hace mucho que no toda la juventud actual es igual: aparte de youtubers, influencers y chorradas de esas, también hay vida inteligente entre ellos.
[ Y ver a Helana Pañart aplaudiendo entusiasmada me hace preguntarme qué fue de ella. Es una de las pocas de la SAJB a la que he perdido totalmente la pista desde hace más de un lustro ]

Le Sant Andreu Jazz Band au grand complet participera au Festival de Châteauneuf-Du-Faou (c'est en Bretagne !) les samedi 26 et dimanche 27 juillet 2014. Allez-y nombreux ! Well, actually inthis case Victor is 10, and he is the son of another great musician, Alfons Carrascossa, but with most of the other talented young people in the band they are just average kids, maybe with some talent, but I think a lot of credit for how well they work together should go to Joan, the conductor of the band, who teaches them to love this music and to work hard on it.

Excluindo-se EEUU, França, Inglaterra, Japão, holanda, Noruega, mais alguns países (o Brasil, infelizmente, há muito tempo não está mais entre eles) e hoje, quando os vi tocar, os Catalãos, de Barcelona e Região ainda respeitam a música, amam as sete notas, as melodias ricas, o Clássico e o improviso do Jazz. O resto faz músicas sem nenhuma qualidade, com arranjos pobres, com letras imorais, somente para ganhar uma graninha da maioria analfabeta que povoa a Terra.
Dá pena, muita pena mesmo, ver músicas e músicos moderrnos, excetuando-se alguns poucos, cada dia piores, cada dia com menos estudo, menos imaginação, menos qualidade. Dá, até, vontade de chorar ( e eu ouço com lágrimas nos olhos), ficando com nó na garganta, vendo Andrea Motis e outras CRIANÇAS, tocando como músicos adultos e de alto nível, sendo vistos aqui por mil e poucas pessoas, enquanto as porcarias de hoje são assistidas por milhões de pessoas.
Eu concordo com certeza.
