I'd like to personally Thank you Mr. DeBhabeau. I've been playing golf since 1980. My mom taught me how to hit a golf club. When I was 10. I hit a 5 wood 200 yards give or take 15 yards. From clubs made in the 50s. I played until 2005. I picked the ball all my life. I played pretty good. Took lessons. I hit a tiny divot of grass. Thanks to you. At 65 now. I go out and hit sand and hit the ball better than I ever have before. Sincerely! You are a true Champion and Man! 😉

It does demonstrate why the top tour pros can almost take good ball striking out of the equation and their focus then is on aim points, wind direction/speed, landing area etc whereas for club golfers we are struggling with ball striking and this brings such inconsistency on distance that those other things become a secondary concern.
If there is one thing that I have garnered from this and some other videos I have seen recently is that until I improve my ball striking 500% there is little value on working on much else. All my range practice is on mats or even on a mat with a net and rudimentary swing monitor. I need to spend a heap of time in our club’s practice bunker drawing lines in the sand. Might get some odd looks from the members wondering why I’m not hitting balls out of there😅

    • @robsjoo
      @robsjoo ปีที่แล้ว +2

that drill literally is the BIG reason between pros and amateurs. ive seen a lot of amateurs that putts like wizards but they are very inconistent with hitting the ball. being a consistent ball striker is imo more important than trying to be the best driver or putter itw. bc that can help u get eagle and birdie puts for every hole on the golf course

Right unique, wasn't it? So much fascinating stuff that I hadn't seen or heard quite that way before. Stating that every tour pro could make that pattern in the sand was edifying. That he could audibly detect the quality of strike on each shot was pretty amazing. Rick had some *beautiful* flight paths that garnered serious criticism. Such a cool look into - and from such a different angle - of how ridiculously good these guys are and how much work and how many reps there must have been for them to reach that level. And then Bryson, with his physics degree being able to look at things in such an objective and unique manner. Really makes me wonder how much interaction he's had with Mac O'Grady's ongoing "system". That now makes it clear to me who I'd like to see him give his next lesson to - Gary McCord. :-) Betting they could speak the same language. . .

    • @robertcovello6550

So unique, love a different look at the same thing. The sand trick is just so easy to mimic and practice. I always worry about my divot depth, now I don’t care.

Bryson, magnificent golfer but he might be an even better teacher.
That was a fantastic and really informative video. It is interesting the more we understand about the mechanics of a golf swing how often we end up going back to history of older players - Seve learnt to play golf by practising on his local beaches, and now we have Bryson teaching us to do the same.

It's hard to describe how Bryson teaches, but it's almost like working "backwards" from perfection and marrying the persons swing to that middle point. It's refreshing to see someone teach without tying the student in knots with new swing thoughts. So compelling, I need more 😂

Bryson - on the first sand drill…not taking into account all of the practice and reps you have, how much would you account having the one length irons in helping with your consistent ball striking?

I'd class myself as a complete and utter novice golfer after playing for the last 5 or 6 years, I've recently switched to some Cobra F8 One-Length irons... And with out doubt my consistency in ball striking is 100% better than my old irons... So for bryson? I'd say definitely...

Rick, I’ve been watching since your reviewed SLDR lol. I don’t think you’ve ever done a bad video. But this might be the best one ever. People don’t understand the importance of the strike and how to get there. And to see even a high caliber player like you go through this is amazing for a struggling golfer like us amateurs. Bryson, you are amazing as well.

What a brilliant video guys! 👏
I've been a 'no divot' golfer ever since I was a junior (30 years ago) and am now working lowering ball flight (reducing launch angle) and increasing my ball speed. Thus far clearing my left hip from the top of the down swing (I'm right handed) has made a huge difference and improved both.
Once the bunkers are looking more those in the US (it's been raining a lot in the UK!) I'll be drawing a line and doing this drill!!!
    Keep this great content going!!!

Out of all PGA/LIV golfers, Bryson has always been the most unbothered by interacting with or helping normal golfers... it's so cool to see how he just takes the time to play matches with Rick, Garrett, etc. like they are the same as him. Like when Good Good has those videos with Callaway athletes they always seem like they could care less about being there, but Bryson always treats them like anyone else and I love him for that!

This really was AWESOME! I work at a golf course and everytime our pro would help folks, they argue they are doing what he said. When you have visual proof, it takes the argument away. As a player, you might even FEEL you are right until that visual shows you aren't. Your feel for a swing changes the more you practice with purpose and feedback until you can actually feel something is right or wrong without even seeing the ball flight.
Far too many of my customers (not getting lessons) will hit three buckets on the range with no direct purpose other than hitting the ball. They honestly believe they put in the work, but never see any improvement. As my old high school band instructor always told us... Learn it correctly, then practice ONLY THAT bit to get good. If you practice wrong, you just reenforced what was WRONG.
This was a brilliant lesson! Bryson has definitely earned my respect. Not that he needs it hahaha, but he's got it 😃
