      Beautiful Derek
      Your years of experience really show with how you manipulate the dyes to achieve the desired results.
      Also, thank you for posting these very informative videos.
      God only knows how many board feet of figured maple you have saved by showing us all what to do and what not to do when you have wood and dye on the workbench together.
      I think this design/pattern would look great using the same colors of the Aquamarine burst!

    You are awesome! A little OCD maybe… but necessary as it works. It turned out awesome! 😊 It shows color isn’t something you can perfectly script. Color is experimental. A great master class video.

    It is lovely. However it does not look like that picture of the butterfly at all. To me, that butterfly has black to dark-ish steely blue to light steely blue to another band of black.

    Received my first kit today and will be heading to a local leather shop I've done business with for years. I know they handle Angelus but I've never messed with dyes. Hopefully they'll have the colors I am wanting to use. If not then I'll definitely be using your link to order. Just means I have to wait a little longer before getting some gloves wet with dye. :)
    Thank you VERY much for the informative videos.

    Gorgeous. The way the bottom middle looks, I would hit the whole thing with turquoise, sand it all back and then cover it with the neutral. Of course, I don't do this for money. Or at all really. :)

    Do you find the leather dyes work better than the TransTint? I recall you using TransTint in earlier videos (that I followed for my own guitars) but getting results can be tricky. Are the leather dyes more forgiving, or do you just make it look easy? ;)

    • @RussellStClair-cy1vu
      @RussellStClair-cy1vu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Number 1 reason trans tints have a color consistency problem is acclimation . It needs to sit 24 hrs. Before use .
      Number 2 is doubt . It'll dry and you'll say to yourself it's light ! It's not . It needs infinity i.e. clear coat .
      This is most common with alcohol based stains.
      Nothing worse than a checkerboard finish in a kitchen🤣🤣🤣🤣 ....it really sucks .
      Not that I've done it 🙄😂😂😂😂

    • @SeanNecker
      @SeanNecker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RussellStClair-cy1vu 1) Not sure what you mean by "it". The bottle of dye needs to sit 24 hours? The mixture of the tint and water? The wood? Need to wait 24 hours between applications? 2) The darkness isn't usually as big a problem as the blending. When trying to do a "poor-man's burst" I either wind up with colour banding or splotchiness. I've tried taking a wet cloth and trying to pull the darker colours into the lighter to try to get a more seamless blend. I'm not sure if it's my technique, or the materials. Hence the question. Are the leather dyes easier to blend than the TransTint? If it's my technique, then I just need to work on that. If TransTint is just inherently harder to do this kind of blending with then I might try the leather dyes.

    • @RussellStClair-cy1vu
      @RussellStClair-cy1vu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SeanNecker the mixture of dye and what it's mixed with . If it's a premix , then it "May " require to acclimate . This can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hrs. If you mix the powdered dye definitely 24 hrs.
      As far as blending goes . Mess around till you find your technique .
      It might be you need to switch to different media . Check with your local paint store . The one in your area that matches stain . They'll have different suspension media . Do yourself a favor and play with Unicorn Spit . It's a quality product . Extremely versatile .
      Make mistakes ! They'll teach so much more than anything else .

    Are these Angelus dyes the leather or suede dyes? I'm in Ireland and trying to source the right stains. Thanks for making these videos. I could literally watch these all day.

    • @Greg0u812b4I
      @Greg0u812b4I 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been going over quite a few of his stain videos for the past couple weeks and have paused an unknown amount of times on most of them when I see a spot where you can read the labels. I have not seen him using the suede dye in any of them. They've all been the leather dye.

      @@TheShaneGuy No problem. I'm actually about to head to the leather store right now and see what their color offerings are.
      Just got a new bass kit in yesterday and needed to wait on the colors until the wood 'told me' exactly what color it needed. 😉
      Hopefully they have the various blues it needs.

    • @TheShaneGuy
      @TheShaneGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Greg0u812b4I awesome! What bass kit did you get? I’m trying to decide whether to buy a guitar kit or not or buy a proper guitar and restain it myself

    • @Greg0u812b4I
      @Greg0u812b4I 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheShaneGuy Went with a 5 string spalted maple from Bargain Musician. Quality of the parts seems ok. Not great, just ok. The fit for the neck to the body is really nice and snug. Very happy with the quality of the woodwork on it.
      I can see myself replacing the tuners and bridge for higher quality pieces in the future but I was planning on that anyway.
      Bought a kit for no other reason than lack of time. Will be starting a scratch build about this same time next year.
      As far as the overall playability of it is concerned, I will not know until a few weeks from now.
      Buying used and restaining might take just as long as starting with a kit but if you find a good brand in decent shape then you know the parts quality should be decent and the electronics will already be set up (except for rewiring the pickups in some cases).
      The kit I bought is one that will require all electronics to be soldered in and no instructions for the wiring at all.
      That's not an issue for me (40 years experience with electronics) but if you are unfamiliar with soldering or figuring out how to wire everything then more research, a couple more tools and a little learning will be needed.
