Tom Nook is NOT a raccoon! He is a Tanuki, aka a Japanese Raccoon Dog; an animal that is part of the Canid family (foxes, wolves, dogs, etc.). The species is only named based off their similar fur pattern but have no relation to actual raccoons 🦝
Tom Nook's name is word play based off the sound--add an EE sound to the end of his name. In Japanese folklore, Tanuki are yokai known for tricking humans and using magic leaves with transformative powers.
I love how we're watching this under the pretense that the Nooks are leading the cult, when on my island I'm the one that gave every villager 3D glasses.

For those who have played animal crossing for a while, we all know K.K. Slider (the dog) is a favorite character and musician! Usually you can listen to music from or collect music from him.

Animal crossing is one of my favorite games of all time. It is such a treat to see you both play it on my birthday march 21st! I still cannot believe that neither of you have never played it before. It is quiet funny how I never noticed the conspiracy with Nook till now. Katelyn is opening my eyes to a whole new world of animal crossings. I blame the Forest! haha. I just started playing this a few months ago and I went into it feeling the same way y'all did.
I absolutely fell in love and I'm totally obsessed now. Bug catching, fishing, farming, and eventually terraforming you island. It's extremely addicting. I hope y'all end up as in love with ACNH as I am.

wayyyyyy late, but regarding the conversion rate: bells are modeled off japanese Yen, so very roughly 100 bells are equal to a dollar. That itemized bill you got around 47 minutes is only 500 dollars... I'd say that's a very good prize for a flight, a tent and a phone! Plus continued residency on this beautiful island :)
