    Well done. Great combination of custom storage and store bought cabinets and put on wheels. Inspiring ideas came together well.

    Best version of Savage's tool cart yet!

    In addition to the "first order retrieve-ability" and clever re-use of existing shop cabinets, I like the fast editing and NO MUSIC approach to this video, then with nice smart JAZZ at the end.

    nice design. It is clear that you actually use your tool cart for work, not like some youtubers who make work benches out of solid walnut or some other material that should really be in a living room.

    Wow!!!! That was amazing. I don’t have all those fancy tools. But I would love to be your neighbor. I just want to build a 3 tier rolling cart to use when I am working in the garage. Now I just kind of lay everything on the floor that I need. I kick tools under the car and stuff is just everywhere. You inspire me!!!!

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah sure, would probably even work better. Lots of things could be improved on this. I pretty much threw this thing together from some scraps in an afternoon, so it's not really the optimal way of building it, more a prototype.

    Do you find the combo wrench row to be covered up , impeding your ability to choose the correct one, extract?

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they are a little bit tricky to reach but it's not too bad. You can easily read the sizes so choosing the correct one is not a problem. But it would have been better to make the whole thing a bit taller so there's more space. Only reason I didn't was that I built this from scrap MDF pieces and they just happened to be this size ;) I don't actually use wrenches that much so it's fine with me

    • @livewiya
      @livewiya 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My first thought was similar. Also,putting a stop-block on the miter gauge would've better lined up that full-thickness cut, preventing it 'grabbing' a little like it did (which could've launched the offcut). Sorry for being the safety police - just don't like anyone getting hurt.

    Nice build, as always. Ignored this video for a few days thinking it was an Adam Savage. The only thing I don’t like about it is the access to the wrenches. I’d prefer they were not nestled behind something else. I want to reach out with one hand and have the right wrench fall right into my hand.

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's true the wrenches are not the easiest to reach but as with most stuff I make this was kind of made up on the go and the size based on some scraps I still had so I ended up having to kind of cram them in there ;) That being said, I kind of dislike wrenches anyway because I always reach for the wrong size at least twice before I get it right and since the rack is ordered by priority I put them in the back. I just bought some adjustable Knipex wrench pliers and hope to be using those most of the time.

    Great video work and good use of storage. My only thought is you lost a good work space by adding that top rack. Most of those tools could be put around the sides of the bottom. How many time do you grab a screwdriver and not use a screw gun? Same for the torx. Also never have hammers that handy!

    I'm jealous when I see the Europeans making these type of carts and see their wrench selection. Theres no way an American could put their most used box wrenches on the cart like that, because we have to deal with metric and SAE. Even in the same American car, there will be a mix of metric and imperial fasteners. I use my wrenches a lot, but there's not really a subset I could pull out from them that would be more worthy to be in the "quick retrieval" rack. So if I put any of them up there, I'd end up using half the rack just for box wrenches.

    Cool project, I'm a bit tired of my tool walls too. How do you find the stahlwerk welder?

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very happy with it, I honestly can't think of much I'd improve. I actually like the manual controls compared to the modern welders with digital control panels. Welds great and has a ton of features. Only downside are the accessories, the torch is pretty clunky and I have finally replaced that recently, and the foot pedal is downright terrible. But that's to be expected with a cheap machine like this.

    • @Pablogogo
      @Pablogogo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phil Vandelay thanks for the reply. I have been toying with the idea AC/DC TIG and was looking at the stahlwerk welders. Is it possible to plug in a CK or parweld torch etc what size connectors for it use, I can't find any info

    • @PhilVandelay
      @PhilVandelay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know those torches but they do have information about the connectors on the website. There doesn't seem to be much of a standard for this stuff so I had to look for a long time to find a different torch that works with this and had to use some adapters. At least the connector for the welding current is fairly standard but with the gas and button controls every manufacturer seems to use something different. I ended up using the switch connector from the old torch and using an adapter (imperial to metric) for the gas hose. So yeah no easy answer.. if you want a different torch with these you have to do some research
