The best part about Kill Team getting traction and becoming a mor noticed game, their other games are getting attention too. Ive always loved Blood Bowl, but GW never talked about it more. Its great.
Argh it still sucks they got rid of narrative. What we loved about it was the base building and adding progression, that is what we loved about it rather than a game then that's it, spec ops made if feel like we actually win something, back then we had stuff to work for. We were even looking at that system to replace necromunda. Bad move gw. As for their excuse to get everyone playing the same thing? Now every narrative group is going to invent their own homegrown rules to add progression so every group will be playing a different group other than competive players.
It's a valid reason, narrative/comp/casual having the same rules makes it easier to bridge across more. Joint Ops missions really support narrative play and half the fun of narrative is adding your own tweaks anyway (:
Great video, really appreciate the insights. I'm currently in a narrative campaign which is running another 6 months, GW not supporting narrative campaigns any more is a disappointment because as much as they were could develop into degenerate experiences, progression is the secret sauce of campaign games. Necromunda, Mordheim et al are fondly thought of for that reason, so discarding it is a disappointment even if I understand the thinking. I'm less convinced about making a PVE mode with an AI system that isn't smart enough to handle conditional situations, as out thinking the AI is often the way to win those games, if you are meant to out think yourself for the AI, isn't that really weird?
I’m a relatively new player to Kill Team, and we’re building our player community in Paraguay. We’re very excited to try the new edition. Noice. Looking forward for the batrep! Kinda disappointed by the app news, I thought they would team up with kt dash to create the ultimate kill team perifery, but alas it’s good they pulled their punches and estimated their capabilities realistically, upkeeping these king of all rounder apps is a pain in the ass and they would need to sacrifice a lot of resources to monitor it 24/7. Sad thing is, if its truly only a pdf reader, I’d still prefer kt dash for its immediacy, I can imagine I’d be using it already, so why waste time on opening a second app. On the other hand, a secondary reference is always good to have. As for npos, I vividly remember some article specifying the arkham horror-like „always the worst outcome for the players” rule. I generally think this new level of openess in communication is unheard of with James W. It feels as if there was a little shakeup at the top and some young bloods are reviving the stale gw formula now.
Great video, John, and yeah, I am. I prefer Kill Team over BigHammer for a few reasons. I’m pretty sad that my Pathfinders are out after a year, but I did grab the Aquilons. I’ve got some friends in our direct counterparts in UKSF that had the same experiences with Kill Team. It might actually be saving lives, so yeah, I’m glad they made it into its own game.
Do the core rules clarify about activation order in joint ops? I.e., does each player alternate when it is their teams turn, or could one player do two activations in a turn before their coop teammate activates? If not playing a half elite, half hoarde team may be a bit boring for the elite player!
I understand and like the classified system. However ad a non competitive player, ibwas still running allot of compendium teams, since they are just units from my 40k armies, it seems these are dead which is understandable but a bit annoying. The wierest one is that it seems at the start of this new edition there is no way to play nids
@@CanYouRollaCrit I'm not sure nids makes sense, thematically (and that's from a nids-haver, halfway through an arm-swap for a now-obsolete team!). I love the thought of Co-op because I have a wife who loves to build and paint Kill teams but isn't so huge on playing the game because she isn't as strategically minded as me so would tend to get frustrated when always losing miniatures games vs other people in the past so with Co-op mode she's more likely to play the game because she and I can sit down in the evening and throw some of our other painted minis we aren't using as our teams that night on as NPO's and work together to try to destroy the Tyranid swarm, or the Plague marines etc etc.
Thank you for the video. did they mentioned the possibility of using the solo-mode to play older narratives (e.g. Ashes of Faith). Btw what was James Workshop like? Was he as cool as he seems?

R.I.P Spec Ops :( Without it there's nothing narrative in KT but missions. Even 40k Crusades give more narrative rules and feeling than new KT now :( The idea is the same, it has to be unbalanced because people don't play narrative games to win unlikely match play players who play only to win. Now only Necromunda or big 40k Crusade games can give us narrative feeling. Bad move GW really bad.
I understand the competitive aspect of the Classified system. But why remove teams entirely after 6 years? What happens for example for factions that are not that well represented? 1 thing that I hate about rotation - bad representation of factions. For example I love Rogue Trader in lore and only this motivated me to start playing kill team (real story). But if they will remove Starstriders and won't make something to replace them - it won't be interesting for me to play any longer. All because w40k universe not about system and gameplay, but about universe and lore for most of the players.
I know it may feel limiting- some of the fun was choosing operatives, like deckbuilding. But GW is differentiating their games. -for list building, play 40k -for curated lists (and consequently less mental load on the pregame), play kill team. This allows players to choose which appeals more, instead of both systems cannibalizing each other.
trust me, you don't want list building for KT 😅 it would be a nightmare to balance and would deter new players from it cuz they realize they have to buy multiple boxes to create a good list. KT18 also had the issue where everybody would either spam sternguard vets or 4 lictors and call it a day cuz that were some of the cheesiest lists back then that showed any success. not fun at all 😢
I feel like a way forward would be to devise superfaction evergreen teams when their rules "expire" that allow list building, just trade off super tight and defined rules with a list build oriented experience. (An all stars kind of set up?) Obviously, this would be something more for a time in the future where quite a lot of teams are gone

You underestimate how bad my memory is,lol @@serse8455
No as technically you just build you list each game now with roster gone
@@CanYouRollaCrit def might look into the cards then, find them really useful in warcry also.
Pepperidge farms remembers when other WH apps were “free with no intention to monetize atm”. 😂😂😂😂. Fool me once Bobs
They plan to keep the KT app free as it just is a PDF reader (:
Uh-huh time will tell. ⏳ 10th edition was supposed to have same thing while being free; until new codexes (read killteams) came out in the cycle then PAYWALL. You were warned 🤷♂️ and given receipts. Please continue to peddle if you want. I’ll move on and that’s fine on both our ends
Kinda but then those players wouldn't be affected by Classified as that would only apply to tournament players
I agree. It is so odd that you can't play nids but have like 4 inquisition teams now
Classified teams wouldn't be an issue if we just had real listbuilding, instead of hard-defined teams with hard-defined playstyles.
Nah I'm glad we don't have list building
I know it may feel limiting- some of the fun was choosing operatives, like deckbuilding. But GW is differentiating their games.
-for list building, play 40k
-for curated lists (and consequently less mental load on the pregame), play kill team.
(An all stars kind of set up?)
Obviously, this would be something more for a time in the future where quite a lot of teams are gone
