    A great conversation.
Only read one Edmund White novel
A Boy's Own Story. Which contains the longest sentence I ever read as it came in at 212 words.
I purchased for my Kindle Denton Welch novel; In Youth is Pleasure.
The judges use the authors views on certain issues rather than the book itself?

Eric, will you be interviewing Edmund for his new novel, A Previous Life? That would so interesting and fun!

Such a great interview. I still haven't read "The Farewell Symphony", but hope to get it read before the end of this year. And I recently got my hands on his upcoming novel ("A Previous Life" - to be released in january 2022) and I'm so excited.

This was such a delightful interview- thanks, Eric! I love your interviews, and how you’re able to make them feel like conversations, but also give lots of space for interesting insights.
The whole section about sneaking in slang into work, and it being delivered by a woman to ‘de-fang’ it, was fascinating!
And I’m even more excited to get to Sybille Bedford’s ‘Jigsaw’ after hearing the story of how it got to the Booker shortlist.

Thank you so much! It's such a privilege to speak to authors I admire.
Yeah, I love the thought of straight readers reading the novel and sort of skipping over those terms while gay readers would have read it knowing exactly what he meant.
I'm keen to read Jigsaw too now!

@@EricKarlAnderson Yes! The radio comedy ‘Round The Horne’ used to sneak in Polari and slang references all the time, and the majority of the audience just thought the hosts were using funny affectations, rather than the more subversive elements that were going on!

Well this was one epic conversation! And I'll definitely be watching this again. I'm a big fan of Denton Welch. I've only read Edmund White's 'Rimbaud: Life of a Rebel' and I loved it. But definitely going to check his own books out, along with the writer Firbank he mentions in your conversation.

Thank you! I'm sure you'll enjoy Edmund's many other fascinating novels and biographies - especially his epic on the life of Jean Genet.
