I think that air filter needed a clean back in QLD 😂

  • @s3uoq
    @s3uoq 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +23

Don't use petrol to clean the air filter, it will break down the foam over time also the glue and any rubber if there is on that particular filter. Use Mineral Turpentine instead and then wash out with a weak solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water then rinse, let fully dry before oiling up and installing 🤙

Just a tip for Liam.I use the foam filters around town and maybe a weekend camp but use paper filters for long trips and bin them when I get back .🙃

I don't use a pressure washer to clean off sand and mud around seals etc. IMO it just forces the particles in further. Chassis rails etc fair game.

An idea for the fuel setup on the 80. A bigger main tank would be more beneficial as more if the weight is now infront if the rear axle. You can still have a sub tank but go for a flatter, lower capacity one to minimise weight behind the rear axle but increasing your clearance too.

hey guys, first up a question for Liam.i talked to you at Brisbane 4x4 show and you said you had new set of tyre deflators. what brand are they and did they work well? so another good video. not to much damage for the terrain and miles you covered, the sock on air filter did its job and probably saved you a lot of greif.you put bottles of fluid in new baskets in drawers with the neck and cap on the bottom. turn em with neck up,if the caps come loose you wont empty the bottle like it would the way they sit now.👍👍good job again.

You can buy a replacement antenna for the 80 that flexible and about a foot long. I destroyed my electric one too haha. If you're doing more dirt roads than bitumen, you're better off with a paper filter, dirt sticks to the oil filter but falls of paper. The 80 filter looked better and has probably done more kms 😂.

I don’t get the thicker is better mentality with oil, you want it flowing everywhere as fast as possible, as long is it’s not breaking down which modern oils won’t you’re good. V8 Supercars run Bathurst all day in the heat on 5w-30.

Build a "flex" frame to lift the truck on one side. Basically a ramp that allows you to lift it at a comfortable angle so you can clean things under easier. You can probably get one, but most are meant for car repair, this one would be purposefully built to put the truck just under the tipping range (of course, with a good margin).

You definitely don't want to be afraid to get wet if you want to clean the underside of your 4WD properly. I recently did just that and I wore a raincoat and safety glasses, as I had to practically lie underneath my 4WD on a creeper to get to all the nooks and crannies. Great post summary of your battle scars from your trip. Loving the channel. Easily my fav. 👍

Penrite oil is the best but this time of year I would have gone with 15/40w. 20/60 is good for summer like you said but we are just starting winter. I used to have a uni filter and had two sleeves so I could change one when it got dirty and wash the two of them when I could. How was your fuel economy on the way home with the filter that dirty?

Worries me you are putting in 20W-60, I'm not a huge fan of Penrite for engine il, they do make purpose GL4 for diffs and trans which is good, as GL only is hard to get and also should only be used in older vehicles like 80s and GU/GGs, not the GL4/5 that is not the same, Penrite uses more additives than any brand on the market if the newer Synthetics!
Penrite GL4 for your trans, and diffs, eg PENRITE PRO GEAR GL4 75W90 2. 5L - PROGL40025, but Engine oil while you may solve one problem you create another, esp with a high mileage engine, the engine oils cant get up to temp as per manufacture specc and you are effectively increasing wear on an older engine! With a Diesel temps are your enemy! Toyota recommend 10W/40
the W is not for weight its the temp eg winter weight, that allows the oil to reach temp at manufacture specc the second number is more to do with temps range it can handle! I run Delo MGX400 15w 40, just did mine after 8 months of hard driving off road and still stable, it was due, but clean not crap in it, plug was clean and have been for years! 20W-60 is a big difference! Just saying you do you, but I would not recommend that or trust a Supercheap person on that! Nothing against the staff they are great and helpful, but oil is cheap, engines are expensive, get the right advice! And maybe look at doing some cooling mods and drop vehicle weight! I use a FMIC on mine AF airbox, bigger multi core rad etc etc. Change your oil filters more regularly!
I'm surprised you guys don't take spare air filters with you and Liam have done these things, with al the mods and gear, this is the best thing you can do and its easy to check and clean a pod filter than letting it get into that state, diesels again need to breath, sock or not its stopped it getting into the engine but its choking the performance. I have a Uni Filter as well and I'll clean it on the trip like that, I also carry a back up! It just surprises me cause usually you guys are really on pint on this stuff. I also wouldn't recommend petrol to clean ya filters, it breaks down the material that's protecting your engine from dirt and dust, they aren't cheap filters, mines about $160, use warm soap water and massive it drip, light air comp blow, I use my onboard compressor when on a trip for a light blow dry, lightly oil. I would have thought you lads would have driven through one of those underbody car wash's also for a quick and easy clean at least to break down the crap underneath, we don't have those here real bummer, so I use your method wit the water blaster, usually drive my rig up onto some steel wheel stands I have!
Anyways good oil no pun, long trips definitely put allot of crap on the vehicles no matter how good they are, you guys had a great trip, cheers, will keep a keen interest on your oil engineering experiment as well. 🤘
ps, I love the I void warranty sticker on the fridge epic!

@@AussieArvos No worries mate, love both ya trucks and what you guys do, having the same engine as yours, mine has around 350k on it, I'm very fussy about engine oil.
I worked in the car industry for awhile and I'm not anti Penrite, there GL 4 imo is as good as Redline from my experience! But re engine, engine oil is cheap! motors are expensive! I never skimp out on quality engine oil and I would rather change it more often than rebuild an engine! Often some engines get a bad wrap, regardless of brand, but reality most times is poor engine oil choices and maintenance and schedules! Understanding how a vehicle use can affect oil.
Full Synthetic and quality ones don't break down like older semi or std olis do and often I think people use older standards or mis-understand to oil codes! what oil does and how especially in various engines oil functions into and around the engine at start up, when warm when hot, when used in the city only, vs off roading hard, or towing, city use and short runs infrequently can be as bad as heavy towing, on engine oil and engines, but if the towing vehicle is serviced accordingly will actually have better life than the city engine barley used!
Anyways jme, find an oil you trust, not one that's cheap, know your engine! Best you can! I cheers guys, all the best with it.

You got that statement wrong, 'you are struggling to keep up with the big boys', what it should be is that you are 'struggling to keep because of the big boys' is far more accurate. I'll bet your statement about thicker oil is based upon your intuition rather than real data or facts. Multi-grade oil 20W-60 whilst your gauge looks good, is the oil thin enough to be getting around the engine correctly. 60 grade oils if you are supposed to use say 10W-30 is twice as thick. You should always use an oil that is recommended for the engine and not what you think is best because the manufacturer knows way better than you ever will.
